I am planning of buying a Imac 27 and am coming from a PC.

All of my photos are loaded onto external drives, and have almost filled a 2 t drive with photos. I have back up of all my photos on a second external, that is a mirror image of the first drive. I also have have one that is a mirror of the first drive that is kept off line and kept in another location. How well will the fussion drive work vs a straight ssd drive with my current set up? I am retired, and this is a major expense for me, and I do hope that this set up will give me years of service. So, should I buy the fussion with a 3 T hard drive, or the 256 flash drive. Now if I were on one of the photo web sites and read a question about should I buy this or that camera, I would say that person needs to do more research. Well, that is what I am doing here. The people on Dpreview say I am going to love my Imac 27, I just need to know more about Apple. I have used PC for 25 years as a CAD designer. My IT person is going to flip out once he knows I have moved to a Apple computer. He will have no more work.

This essentially means that if my iMac develops some problem (both software and hardware) in my country (India), it will be completeley attended (even the whole system requires replacement) by the AASP in India...is that what you say?

I actually am planning to buy an iMac. But I do not know if I should buy one because I already have a Macbook Pro. But I want a desktop computer as well.
I do not know if I should buy one now or wait when they release a new one on October...or buy a Windows Vista.

Wait. We don't know if there'll be a new model release next week, next month, or next quarter. Considering that you purchased your MBP not long before there was a model update for that line, why don't you wait for a new model iMac this time and "get even." You could then get one loaded with all the latest features so that it has the capability to do anything and everything that you can imagine? If you get the new model while it's still hot, it'll be quite awhile before you need to worry about being "behind the curve." Then, YOU can give all of US some advice, and we'll probably need it;)

If you are a college student and take a student ID you will get the education discount. If you are a student in public or private high school and have a student ID you may get the discount. I know of some parents/students who claim to have gotten the discount and some who have been denied it. Not sure if that's due to a policy change or just a difference in interpretation of who is eligible. I suggest you call your local store to find out.

To solve this issue all I did was check to ensure that the file permissions were set as described by the earlier posts, followed by simply deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb file. Once the file was deleted I was able to open iTunes without difficulty. Note that I am running Windows 8. Hope this helps!

It's usually best to have applications on the boot drive, so I'd turn your idea around: run Aperture from the internal disk and park iPhoto and maybe iTunes libraries on an external - which would free up space on the internal.

Your Lightroom License key is,
1. Cross platform Mac and or Win.
2. It is a single user / owner.
3. You can have two installations active with one in use at any point in time.
4. There is no deactivate process like other Photoshop products.
5. You can uninstall / install as many times as you need as long as you keep the spirit of the license.
6. The license key is specific to the Lightroom version, i.e License key for LR 4 will not work for LR 5.
7. You can upgrade i.e. purchase from any version of Lightroom 1,2,3,4 to the latest LR 5.

Elitebook 2540p: Faint sound and static coming from speakers...Need Help!

I am having issues with my new 2540P. I can hear faint sound and static coming from my speakers as well as my headphones when I plug into the jack. I first started having this issue when I plugged additional speakers into the jack and USB while talking on Skype..
I am running Win7. I tried troubleshooting drivers and hardware, disabling and enabling, and a system restore going back one day...but no luck. When I disable the speakers, I stopped hearing even the faint sound. I also tried plugging and unplugging the jack 20 times.
Is it possible that this is a hardware failure (jack and/or sound card)?
Does anyone have other suggestions?

I am running XP and have same problem. Sound now gone after "pop". Customer services suggests hardware failure and send back to factory. Flashing BIOS and updating IDT audio driver will not fix the problem.
Possible speaker failure or audio chip failure.

HI Everyone, I'm going to be buying an iMac. I'm trying to figure out the specs and such that I want.
Background:
I've had a MacPro 1,1 for 8 years and it was more than enough for my needs. I liked having several different hard drives to back-up data but found that 1 tb seemed to be the most I would use (ended up backing-up data onto the other drives). Unfortunately it died and now I'm shopping for a new mac.
What I'll be using my mac for:
1) Managing content (iTunes data)
2) Photos
3) Programming (working with Xcode)
4) Photoshop
5) Photoshop Lightroom
6) Illustrator
7) Microsoft apps
8) Diablo
9) Starcraft
10) WoW (very rarely because of time constraints)
So I pretty much figure I want an 1 TB Fusion drive. And I want 8 - 16 gb of RAM. What processor should I get and video card. There might be some point that I'm playing games so I'm curious if I should shoot for an i7 processor or just an i5. As well, a 1 gb video card, intel HD, or 2gb card. I think with the video card and and processor it is a matter of longevity rather than performance at this moment (since non of the games I'll ever play are processor intensive). Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated. I'm buying in Dec and am going to see what comes out in Oct. I definitely need a new computer. Been running an 128 gb hard drive Macbook Air all summer and going to pull my hair out if I can't get access to all my data soon.

I just got a new Imac, and downloaded files from my old PC. Now, when I go to Finder, I have 1500 files in an area called developer. What is this, and can they be deleted? There are also 78 files listed as Other! Most of these files I do not recognize.

I just got a new IMac, and tried to download files from my old PC. When I go to,Finder, I have 1500 files under Developer, an 78 files under Other.
Most of these files I do not recognize. Can they be trashed? Why did they transfer? I used a flash drive for the transfer. Also, is there a way to transfer my older email files to this new computer?

Did you use the Migration Assistant to help set up the new iMac using some of the files in the older PC? Some likely won't mean much, unless you have applications that can use or convert them. There's also a way to use the software Time Machine to import data files from an external or another computer, so you may have used that, too.
Hopefully someone with experience in a similar issue will reply...

I have upgraded my iMac and now photos from before 2010 won't open?

I have bought a new iMac and have transferred my photos using an external HD. I copied the photo library and it updated it. All the thumbnails appear but when I select an image it just shows a warning triangle (although the thumbnails are available along the bottom). I have gone back to my old iMac and tried the rebuild options and have tried those on the new one too but to no avail. I can't seem to find the originals on either computer. The is a folder called Data and there are .jpg files in there but they are all very small e.g. 44kb.
I am very confused and also nervous that I have lost thousands of precious moments! Please help if possible.

That triangle appears when iPhoto has broken the file path or link to the orignal image file.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

My iMac and Netgear Router from Sky Broadband are having problems

Hi, I've got a fair amount of knowledge in these area's. I not long switched to Sky Broadband a couple of weeks ago. The problem lies with the connection to the router that they supply for their service, a Netgear DG834GT. The problem is that my connection to the 802.11g network is extremely slow.
My iMac, even tested in the same room shows 20-30% signal. This compared 2 a Windows Vista laptop at 5bars and top speed downstairs, and two PC's (XP) either end of the house with the same normal signal quality.
Contacting Sky Broadband, they assume that the fault is with the iMac and are state that they can't really help because I am not using a wireless adapter supplied by them (If it's even compatible).
Does anyone know the solution to this? I've heard of many other users with similar problems on different Mac's but no-one seems to have a fix.
Also running bootcamp, ive found my signal strenth to me maximum, but my speed to still remain at 22Mb/s peak, and roughly 1-2Mb/s when browsing the internet.
Lastly I have WPA-PSK enabled, and i've tried adjusting wireless channels without having any luck improving the signal. I would be gratefull if anyone knew any ways to fix this problem, thanks

Buy the Wireless N adapter from Apple and install it. Even though the only specified effect is adding the N router capability, it fixes the problem you mentioned (worked like a charm for my friend).
