Is it not possible to create a text box, fill it with dynamic (data driven) text, but make the font size either scale up or down automatically, so that the entire text box is filled? This is a feature in PrintShop Mail Pro called COPY FIT. but no such feature in Indesign??

lol... it seems to work, but I have another huge problem!
Apparently .CSV files cannot contain page breaks in the data! The data I am trying to merge is a 'letter', with paragraphs, line breaks, etc.,
But, after data merging, it ignores page breaks and only merges the first paragraph of each letter. (sigh)
Solution? Hopefully, an EASY solution. lol as we have thousands of records.
Is there a third party indesign plugin that will allow .xml, or .xls data merge import??

You need to purchase a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, which requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM. Run Software Update twice afterwards.
If you're already running Mac OS X 10.6, run Software Update until it gives you the option of installing iTunes 11.

I've managed to play music wirelessly from my macbook to the express/stereo, however i cant surf the web because i can only presume i haven't set up the express to join my sky network. So therefore the only way to surf the web at the moment is swap wireless devices from express back to my current sky network, then the airplay stops obviously.
I've tried to join the express to my sky network/netgear router, at face value it looks simple. The sky network name automatically comes up and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using, then type in the password which i presume is the network key number on the back of the netgear router? However its not connecting?? I am doing something wrong?
Can someone please give me some guidence on how to connect express to my current network?

Suggest that you ask Sky what type of wireless security that is used on the devices that they provide.
Once you have that information, you can choose the correct matching setting when you configure the AirPort Express to "join" the Sky wireless network.
The "password" would be the normal phrase that you use to connect to your wireless network at the present time.

My question is: How do I figure out what release I was on, get rid of this one and got back to a functional firefox that moves in realtime. I already did all the reset and etc.... I just want to go back to the speed I had. This halting , hanging up misery of a browzer is Sad. I have had firefox for years and always recommended it ..... BUT NOT ANY MORE. You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Without exact system info and version info nobody can tell you anything. From failed updates to simple compatibility issues and one of the machines not meeting the requirements for a newer version this could be anything.

Can't get battery to charge - please help before I pull my hair out

My daughter and I both have the Curve 8530, first, her battery didn't seem to hold a charge very long, then her charging port stopped working. So we started swapping the batteries. When hers was low, I would give her mine with more charge and charge up the other one, using it until the first one needed a charge. That started getting more and more frequent, now, all of the sudden I can't get either one to charge in my phone. Figured out that hers doesn't charge because it is broken. We can see a piece of metal that should be on the little tab in the port, laying at the bottom of the port. Mine is a little loose after 2 years, so I sometimes have to wiggle the connection or make sure I set it down and don't move it when it is charging. However, this is making me crazy. It was plugged into my computer usb to charge all night and was completely dead this morning. Which, is not a big suprise as the usb port on my computer doesn't always like to charge the BB. Gives me an error saying not enough power. So I plugged in the wall charger and let it sit. It gets far enough that it will start the OS, but then sat there for hours and never changed from red and didn't get even 1 bar of charge. Usually it only take a short time. I read another post about an internal circular battery under the sticker with all the identification numbers on it, but I don't see any battery resembling that and am not comfortable taking my BB apart like that. So any suggestions as to what the problem might be? Or how to fix it? My daughter's, though she doesn't think so, is not near as important as having at least one battery for mine due to work, etc. Thanks for reading and any help.

I would suggest trashing the .itl and .xml files to make sure you start clean (quit iTunes before you trash the files, of course). Then use the Add Folder To Library command and select your iTunes Music folder. That should get everything back into iTunes, though you won't get any playlists back unless you made a backup of them.

Help! I'm pulling my hair out....

I'm trying to copy everything from my old ibook to my new one. The old OS is 10.2.8 and the new one has tiger on it. How can I move ALL the information from my old one to my new machine. I've tryed firewire and airport however I can't get them to mount. I've tryed every kind of network config I can think of. What am I doing wrong. My old ibook is the older blue one and the new one is well the new model. Any help would be greatly apperciated.

Hi, Jeremy. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Does your old blue iBook have a FireWire connection? Some of the Indigo ones did. If so, follow the step-by-step instructions for using FireWire Target Disk Mode. If the blue iBook doesn't have FireWire, you can't use FireWire Target Disk Mode. Both computers have to have it.
You should be able to connect the two using an ethernet cable and transfer everything that way if you can't use FireWire Target Disk Mode.
AirPort will work if both are connected to an AirPort Base Station or a wireless router or wireless access point with AirPort cards. I know your new G4 will have an AirPort Extreme card that came in it, but does your old iBook have an AirPort card? Are both connected to a wireless base station of some sort?
You will have to turn on file sharing on the iBooks in order to enable that to happen.

Pulling my hair out: Change format from date to number format?

I was recently sent a formatted Excel spreadsheet in which to enter my own numbers. The format is date and duration, but the last column is the total number of hours and minutes converted into decimals, e.g. 3hrs. 30mins. = 3.5 hours.
It was going fine until last night when I tried to enter 5:73 as a number, not a duration, but Numbers keeps changing it to 6m 13s. I've tried changing the format from Duration to Number but although the cell will say 0:00, when I enter the number 5:73 it automatically switches back.
The weird thing is that it's only happening on about one-third of the cells. I even cut-and-pasted a section of the spreadsheet that didn't have this problem, cleared the contents and then typed my info into the same lines and rows and it's still doing the same thing.
How can I see the hidden formatting in Numbers cells to see if I can figure what needs to be changed?

dragging on bottom right corner but all that does is increase the range, not the size of the actual cell itself.
Hover the cursor over the right of a column (Column B in this example) until the cursor becomes a cross with arrows pointing East and West. Drag right to widen the column.
Or use the Format Panel > Table > Row & Column Size
(You may have to drag the panel up to see this)
I really miss in Numbers is being able to edit cell contents in a formula bar.
Here is the formula bar in Numbers 3.2 after clicking twice on a cell
The formula bar is moveable. Hover over the left of the bar until the cursor changes to a 'hand' and you can drag it.
Resize the formula bar by hovering over any edge and drag
Tricky with a trackpad, easier with a mouse .
Also, the cell contents appear at bottom left of the Numbers window
If you prefer Numbers 2.3, I agree it is much more user-friendly version.

IChat AV, pulling my hair out

My hair is receding more each day as I try and troubleshoot this. . Hoping Ralph can help.
I have a MacMini at home, 1.4 GHz processor, 1G RAM running 10.4.6, new iSight camera, can't for the life of me get iChat AV to work.
Most of the time, when I try and connect to someone (another Mac user) I get an insufficient bandwidth error, a "User did not respond" error, or a "User declined Chat request" error. When I or someone else tries to connect to this computer from somewhere else, we get the above errors, but occasionally we'll get the audio but no video. Connection doctor shows essentially no video being received. I've checked Activity Monitor and there is nothing else hogging the processor. And, here's the curious part. . .
This Mac Mini connects to the Internet either via Airport which is in turn connected to my cable modem, or directly to the cable modem with the Airport Base Station as a bridge. When using my powerbook wirelessly on my home network, iChat works flawlessly, so I presume it's not my cable modem, but rather something about the Mac mini computer I have.
I tried unplugging the ethernet cable, forcing the Mac mini to use the airport connection instead, and iChat worked fine yesterday, but today even that doesn't work.
I've got none of the add-ons, no Virex, and have run speed tests and all is well. Why can I connect with Airport from my powerbook and iChat AV works fine, but with the Mac mini it doesn't? Aren't they using the same common output to the internet, the Cable modem?
I've changed the Quicktime streaming settings - no help. I've read FAQ's and troubleshooting until I'm blue in the face. Here's hoping someone can help.
It's Father's Day and I was counting on being able to chat with my kids at home, as I'm away. I'm really bummed.

In the Internet tab is how the Airport connects to the modem.
As the Modem is in Bridge mode if this screen is set to DHCP tehn it will see the ISP issued IP address which we know is happening.
In the Network Tab, yuo should turn On/Select Distributing Addresses. This will turn On the Airport (to computers) DHCP and both computers will then be able to connect properly.
The default range for the Airport is 10.1.xxx where the Airport it self is 10.0.1.1
This option allows you to change that addressing.

I am using godaddy Linux hosting shared environment unlimited with java support .
I am able to connect to database directly through my JSP or servlet and able to get the result . I mean if I hard code the database connection string,userid and password . But if I use context.xml I am getting null pointer exception on the screen . As per the tomcat configuration install doc if you copy context.xml under META-INF/context.xml It will be picked by tomcat and writes it under conf\Catalina\localhost directory with your jar file name . In shared environment I am not getting a away to check this ..
Is there any way to check the file copied properly or not to conf\Catalina\localhost directory?
Or if it doesn't there any other way to implement connection pooling in Godaddy environment?
and surprisingly the logs what they are asking me to check are under stats directory with error_logs directory . But that doesn't contain much information.Are there any other error logs I can check?
You mentioned in the above message you were able to check the shared libraries they are hosting. How do I check it?

Background Info: I'm a college student, taking an introduction to programming class that is using Java. We are only to chapter 6, so I'm still very new at this. Dr Java is the compiler of choice in this text.
I have been given an assignment to create a method that counts all the white pixels in a given image. I have the thought pattern down, but I am running into a problem with my looping.

The flip side is that it is still outputting lots of times. It outputs at the end of each row; the most curious thing is that it outputs the result multiple times. At least this is some forward progression. I still can't figure out why it is printing more than once, much less such a specific number of times. Dr Java will display as many results as is given, so I know it isn't just cutting it off. I learned this earlier when I got "poop 10" about a bazillion times.
EDIT: I thought I should probably mention that I am using the classes that came with the book. This particular method is to go in the pictures class. I can scrounge up an unedited one if it would help.

The reason I included the if statement was to keep the statement from running every single time the statements were executed. I see now that I did that needlessly.

Honestly if I have to listen to another helpdesk operator tell me not to worry and they will sort my problem I think I will scream...so i am turning to the sanity of the forum - hopefully someone in the ether can help!
We have always had really bad connectivity <0.2mbps. This is because of long line length. Then a couple of weeks ago our phone and consequently our ADSL lost connectivity. Openreach came out an fixed the phone - but the broadband has never come back up - this was logged under fault: VOL-012-************. The engineers cames out twice, first to fix and then to check the line when the broadband didn't come back on - the engineer said the line was fine - it was a problem with the back end....
....so I ring BT - they raise a new case VOL-051-************. The agent on the phone tells me that they can see the problem - but that it needs to be a raise to the L2 team - yet another set of pointless days waiting...
Classic moment today when the L2 team say that it isn't there fault - Openreach need to visit - now we can guess what the answer there will be, a continuous circle of it isn't our fault it there...
So is there someone out there that is a saine, sensible and informed BT person that can look at these cases and just tell me why my broadband isn't coming back on after there was a BT fault (I believe something on the Pole that was faulty)

for your security please delete vol ref numbers
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Garageband is locking up.. I've tried everything.. Pulling my hair out!!

I downloaded the newest version of GB.. Then bought the $4.99 expansion. My power flashed mid download. Every time I go to start GB now, the application locks up. I've tried deleting everything that has to do with GB off the computer and redownloaded the application. It still locks up. Anyone know what to do?

I have not had this problem but I did have problem where my iPod would not turn on after it had just been on and I knew it had a charge. I suggest that you press and hold both the top button and the home button until the iPod turns on again. This might take 10 to 15 seconds. I believe this process can be found in the user manual if you want to find out what it is supposed to do. I also found the answer to my problem on this forum.

I changed my password for facebook. The old password was saved and automatically filled in each time I log into facebook. The old password still fills in and I need to know how to change it to the new one.

Tools -> Options -> Security -> Saved Passwords.
On the list of sites select http://www.facebook.com (you should see your FB user name in the right column). Select "Remove". Login to FB with your new password and click "Remember password" when asked.

I am pulling my hair out! I am using adobe indesign and just want to make a text box 'autofit text' as I change fonts a lot and want the font to automatically re-size as I change it. help help help please - I have latest version of indesign - thanks
