I am so new to Mac. I just bought this Macbook Pro. No Disks or anything. I need to completely wipe and reinstall. Is there anyplace I can download the disks to burn to dvd to do a complete wipe and reinstall? I'm running 10.6.8. Or maybe a later version

First determine what system you really have.
Apple menu -> About This Mac.
If it is 10.7, you don't need installer discs, because there is a recovery partition:

If indeed it is 10.6.something then you'll want to call AppleCare for the discs.

If they determine the machine is older than 10.6's initial release (August 28, 2009), you'll want to purchase 10.6 retail, and/or 10.7 retail from the Apple Store.

I have just bought a Macbook Pro and sync data from my old version onto the new one...However when I tried opening the mail client...Message window does not appear. The old Macbook Pro I was using used Snow Leopard. Now with the new it is a Lion. Toruble now when I click onto new message window I have the spinning icon which show it is trying to load. Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

Have a mac mini and just bought a macbook pro
i have an 09 mac mini and just bought a macbook pro today... i was wondering if there is anything i could do between the two of them, like wireless connections or something... i'm not asking to use the macbook pro as a monitor or anything like that, just wanted to know if there were any cool things i didn't know about that i could do between the 2...thanks-bruce
Bruce you can do a lot but you need to be specific. Your question is so general it's impossible to get an idea what you have interest in doing. However the first place I'd start is looking into sharing on your System Preferences and before you start punching in preferences get yourself a book at a bookstore about OS X and study a little on sharing and OS X in general. I just bought a Macbook Pro with Retina and I cant' seem to connect my HTC One X+ cell phone to it. It seems that I have to download the HTC software for the phone called HTC Sync Manager, but app won't open on the Macbook Pro because it's "unidentified." PLEASE HELP! OK Folks i believe i have actually found the solution. I know i am a bit slow but i only got my New HTC One 32gb today (it was free from Three). Like you it would not connect to my Mac or work PC. So here is the way i got it to work. Download Android File Transfer if you have not already got it. Make sure you have USB Debugging setup etc. Now you need to download a free programme called SyncMate. I used SyncMate 4 because i am running OS X 10.7. There is a paid for version of Syncmate but we just want the free version as it seems to contain some drivers that will make Android File Transfer see you phone. Download SyncMate, install it as per usual and hey presto when you plug in your HTC One Android File Transfer should open automatically...BINGO!!! It worked for me which i am really chuffed about as i was just about to ring Three back up to get the phone returned. Let me know if it worked for you too :-)

I just bought a macbook pro and want to use my own iCloud account for my iPhone. How do I sign off of the current account on my iPhone and sign in with my own iCloud account i set up my mac?
On your phone, Go to "Settings", "iCloud", scroll to the bottom and "sign out." Assuming you have the the account password/security info of the current account, it will delete everything iCloud related upon your approval (don't worry, everything will remain in the cloud.) Once signed out, in the same settings location (under "Settings", "iCloud") sign in using your Apple ID and Password.

Bit of a tough one...I have a hard drive, iPod and iphone synced to an itunes on a computer that's been irreparably broken. Just bought a macbook pro and want to try and salvage everything onto the itunes on there. Any ideas?

i have just bought a macbook pro and i want to use an ext hard drive with it which i previously used on a windows computer, but when i plug it in it doesn't show up on my macbook pro, I've wiped it and just need to format it but don't know how, any help would be much appreciated
Try the other USB port. If it still doesn't show up in Disk Utility then there may be something wrong with your Mac. Try something else in each USB port and see if it is seen. If the other thing, like a USB thumb drive, does show up in disk utiltiy then the USB ports are fine.
Power down the system and restart with the drive connected, go to DU and see it it is seen. -

Hi I've just bought a Macbook pro (2010) I bought it as I needed an older one running snow leopard. Its running on 10.6.4 but I need it with 10.6.1 or 10.6.2, does anyone know if I can install 10.6.1 or 2 on my Macbook??????
This is because I have a copy of Protools I want to run on it and it has to be 10.6.1 or 10.6.2
Help I'm desperate!!The 2010 MBPs came installed with either 10.6.3, or 10.6.4 later in their lifespan. Earlier versions of the OS may not have the correct drivers for the Mac's hardware.
Ultimately, you might be better off upgrading your copy of Pro Tools, or updating the Mac to Yosemite and running Logic Pro X. -

The operating system can be found by going to the Apple menu and selecting "About this Mac"
Under "Mac OS X" should be the Version 10.6.x, clicking Software Update will update the operating system via the internet. -
I just bought a macbook pro and I want to know how to restore pictures that were backed up on iCloud but then deleted from my phone. Isn't that the point of the backup so I can delete and make more space. Please help!
Log into the iCloud on your MacBook Pro and enable Photo Stream:
Then launch iPhoto and set iPhoto's Photo Stream preferences to the following:
Then check the Photo Stream section of iPhoto:
This is to confirm that the photos are still in Photo Stream. If they are they will be imported into the library.
NOTE: not all photos in an iPhone will be in the Photo Stream. PS only keeps photos in it for 30 days.
If you have the missing photos in your library put them in an album. Connect your iPhone to the Mac and open iTunes. In iTunes you can select that album in the library and sync the photos to your iPhone to get them back on the iPhone.

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us. -

The new machine has Mavericks which is fine. And I will leave it as is. I don’t want anything from my old machine other than 2 apps that I will need on the new one. I want to be able to install those apps that I bought from the App Store onto my new computer. I assume Apple doesn’t want me to have the apps installed on 2 machines at the same time so I wonder if just uninstalling them from my old machine will release them for re-install on the new one.
