I am trying to buy Mountain Lion but I am getting this message: The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
I just tried to buy Mountain Lion but I am getting this message, yes, even after I reboot: The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
I don't understand what this means? Is my MacBookPro too old to work with Mountain Lion?

I tried to download the upgrade and it started, but I think my connection was spotty because then it stopped and when I tried to redownload that is the message that keeps popping up. Also I bought the computer in America in July, but am now living in Japan. Not sure if that makes any difference whatsoever, but I figured as much info as I could give would help. I appreciate any advice.
Try this...
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go
Move the NetworkInterfaces.plist file from the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloaing Mountain Lion.
Might also need to disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall. -
The Mac App Store shows an update available for iMovie but when I click "update" it gives me this message, "The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed." What can I do to update this program?

When clicking 'buy' for Mountain Lion in the App store I get the message "product distribution file could not be verified, it may be damaged or was not signed' Anybody know why I get this message. Thanks
Make sure your Mac qualifies for Mountain Lion > Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
If you have anti virus software installed, disable that before downloading apps.
Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Security & Privacy) > Firewall
Try deleting the cache, cookies, and preference files (plist) associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Now here:
~/Library/Preferences
Click Go
Move these files from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
com.apple.appstore.plist
com.apple.storeagent.pllist
Now here:
~/Library/Cookies
Click Go
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, try the App Store. -

If you are trying to reinstall Lion, you need to use Lion Recovery
Why can't I purchase and download Mountain Lion? I get the following message: The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
For that issue, quit the App Store if it's open.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloading MLion.
***** Your post is rather confusing. There's a difference between reinstalling Lion and downloading Mountain Lion. -

Mountain Lion cannot download, need help. Says "The product distribution file could not be identified it may be damaged or was not signed". What do I do?????
If you have Intego VirusBarrier X6 installed
1. Open /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.
2. Click on the "Surf" button.
3. Click on the "Ad Banner Filter" tab.
4. Click "OFF" next to "Banner advertisement filter".
5. Start the computer in Safe Boot, then restart the computer into normal mode.
If don't not have Intego Virus Barrier installed
1. Verify that the date and time is correct on the computer.
2. Safe Boot once, then restart normally, then try downloading again.
3. Try with a different user account if the issue persists
If the issue persists
Install Lion onto an empty partition (internal or external).
Note: You can Use Disk Utility to live partition the internal drive and create a second partition large enough to install Lion.
Start from the clean installation of Lion.
Download Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. Note that the original startup disk can be set as the destination for Mountain Lion during the installation process. -
Trying to buy Mountain Lion but
Hi ,
I'm trying to buy Mountain Lion but I just get sent around to different pages either saying I havn't bought anything or a page saying I need to uppgrade Gagage Band, iPhoto,iMovie. So I download and install but the only thing that happens is that the change date gets changed. The program itself doesn't and I get a folder called _MACOSX but there is nothing in it that works.
I thought it was suposed to be easy to buy through App Store.
Hmm
Martin
SwedenThanks a lot ! Worked like a charm after I pressed the ¨buy¨ button twice (2) , Best regards Martin

Hello to everyone that helped me.
I have tryed all the solutions that you have offered, but with no sucsess.
I have also tryed to contact the support from the AppStore, but I only got the answer please contact our other collegues, from the Technical Support unit.
I tryed as the last atemped to reinstall Lion 10.7 through the AppStore (by going to purchases) after I went through the process, downloading and installing, I could also purchase, download and install Mountainlion.
(one small hick-up, after I finished downloading Lion, the AppStore gave me the same Message as before:
The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
I just pressed the button to download, again. After that I had no more issues.)
I hope that this will help you.
Best Regards
Rene
Hello,
In my case, that would not be possible since before the message I have got , the system said
"We could not complete your App Store request" or something similar. And the only choice I had, is to click on OK button. As I said, the only way I found is to start from Mac OS 10.6 to succeed in buying, not only downloading, but simply buying Mountain Lion.

Hi,
I've recently updated my late 2009 macbook from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Things were working good. Yesterday I updated in to 10.8.4. Today I saw an update for Xcode. I tried installing it. But I have been constantly receiving "The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed" in App Store. There after I am not able to purchase anything from App Store. I tried following things:
1. Tried downloading the updates in Safe Mode. ==> No success.
2. I deleted folder present in /var/folders ==> No success.
3. I changed my network by converting my phone to WiFi hotspot and I stopped receiving the error.
Can somebody please suggest any reason/solution?
Router I am using is D-Link N300.
Thanks. The problem got solved by changing DNS to public DNS from Google. i.e. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

I am trying to purchase mountain lion but I get the following message:
"We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may bedamaged or was not signed." Any help?Installing the appropriate combo update may help...
If you are running v10..7 Lion, install the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo)
For 10.6 Snow Leopard > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
Then restart your Mac. Try the App Store.
If that doesn't help, try the following..
Relaunch the App Store and try downloading Mountain Lion.
You may also need to disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Security & Privacy) > Firewall -

Hi community,
When trying to buy Mountain Lion I get: "The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.”, any clue on how to fix this issue? It only happens in one of my computers.
In the console I get an error when trying to purchase it:

1) I deleted the /var/folders/8l folder (gets recreated when opening the app), no result.
2) Tried to check "Best attempt" for both OCSP and CRL certificate management in Key Chain.
No result in any way.
Any idea?Hello
It can be an issue related to antivirus so disable it or download in safe mode
