I am trying to download a file from Safari. It doesn't work. It always comes up with a notification saying, 'Safari could not download this file'. Why does it do that? More importantly, what should I do? how do I download it?

What type of file is it?
If safari can't natively open the file, or there is no App installed thatr can, it won't download.

You need to sync them in iTunes and download them there, then simply open them from the folder where they are stored in other programs.

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :
605124.pdf.html
Change the extension to .pdf
And it opens and works perfectly, I just tested it:

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

If the app did not specifically indicate that it was available from the iTunes & App Stores then, as Diavonex indicated, you cannot download it.
The App Store has 2 free Heartmath apps for the iPad - Inner Balance, and HeartQuotes HD. You can click on your App Store icon and find them under Heartmath in the Categories search bar.

Corrupted content error when trying to download .pdf file from one website.

Unable to download .pdf file from a website, but IE8 provided the download without hesitation.
Both v7 and v8 produced the same message:
"Corrupted content error"
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because an error in the data transmission was detected.
This may be a particular website problem, or it may be common to the particular industry segment and their protocols.
I have followed the help leads and examined the profile for Firefox as used in this instance. Nothing untoward seemed to pop out as a causal factor.

Reworked some of the javascript for our webserver and fixed the problem.

When downloading a file from Safari, it goes to downloads and you can't re-name the file before it is saved

I am new to MAC and have trouble when downloading files from Safari that I want to save to a particular folder with a new name. Can you do that without first saving to downloads, then moving the file to the documents stack, then changing the name?

Although the right-click contect menu has "Download linked file as" and you would think that would allow you to rename the file as it is downloaded, it always gives me a useless html file. Maybe I am misunderstanding what that menu item actually does. I long ago gave up on renaming files during download. So I'm as curious as you about whether it can be done.

Cannot download any files from Safari 6.0.1 (Mountain Lion)

Hi, I have had an ongoing issue with downloading files from Safari 6.0.1. When I click any links (even from emails) to download various files from pdfs, zips to photos, firmware etc, Safari opens a new tab with the file URL in the navigation bar. However, the tab is a blank gray window, and the download does not begin. I have been copy pasting the links into firefox and the downloads work fine. Would rather be using safari though and its rather annoying to be opening a separate browser anytime I need to download a file. Any ideas?

When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

ITunes keeps trying to download nonexistent file from Store, reports as "Corrupted"

iTunes Match mis-matched one of my songs. It turns out it's from an album no longer carried in the iTunes Store. Through Customer Service, I obtained a credit to re-purchase the song from a different album.
This was months ago. There hasn't been a problem - until now.
Out of nowhere, iTunes started attempting to re-download the original song. The progress bar refills several times, then a pop-up dialog states the file is corrupted, and I should "Check Available Downloads" to try again. The track has even reappeared in my iTunes Library, albeit grayed out and with a "!" next to it.
How do I convince iTunes and the iTunes Store that this is a non-existent track, and to stop trying to download it?

I am having this issue as well, same error number and everything. Only one song too, the songs purchased before and after it download correctly. You have to press the report problem link specifically next to the song after pressing the initial report problem on your purchase history page.
Not that Apple Support has done much for me yet, they claimed it was my ISP or something which is pure fabrication.

Troubles while trying to download movie files from Rapidshare

Hi everybody,
I just installed SL and it works like a charm.
The only trouble I'm encountering is when I try to download a movie file from Rapidshare using Safari.
It seems that new Quicktime X bypass the Rapidshare page (the regular one that gives you two options: free user / member user) and it downloads directly the file, interpretating the rapidshare url like a normal one and adding a html extension to the original file once downloaded.
Downloaded file is clearly corrupted and useless.
I noticed this issue just with avi/mpg/wmv etc. files (no zip, rar and other extensions.
It's quite frustrating and I don't want switch to Firefox.

I'm downloading a wmv file from Rapidshare.
I can play any wmv/mpg/avi file from other sites as Quicktime X works fine.
I think this issue is just related to Rapidshare url's.
IE: when I go to an url like this "rapidshare.com/855839383/file.wmv", Safari switches directly to Quicktime player (skipping RS download options) and, since the file isn't correctly downloaded, appears the quicktime logo with a "?" inside.

I have downloaded dng converter 7.3 and 7.2, but still i cannot download convert raw images from lumix fz200, i.e., convert to dng.
I also have cs5 on the same computer. I tried converting through cs5, but no success.

The DNG Converter is a standalone program that converts an entire folder at a time. It is independent of Lightroom. The camera you mention was first supported by LR 4.2 and DNGC 7.2. What version of LR are you using that you need the DNGC for?

How do I download PDF files from Safari 5.0.5?

I am unable to open PDF files. All I get is a blank black screen. I now download PDFs into my computer from the internet (with mixed success), which is several steps more than has ever taken me in the past.
Since finding this problem I have updated the Adobe Reader and run system updates today, to no avail.
Adobe reports that there is a compatibility issue between Safari 5.1 and Adobe Reader. They offer several solutions none of which has worked for me.

Go to HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the Adobe PDF browser plugin from the Internet Plug-Ins folder to the Trash..
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If you have trouble finding that file..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Click Go

Without jailbreaking, there is no way to explore your phone's file contents on your actual iPhone.
If you hook up to a computer, you may be able to use a program like iExplorer and find the file somewhere in there. But if you aren't jailbroken, you won't get root access, which may cause problems.
I'd probably just bookmark whatever page you found it on and e-mail it to yourself so you can download it on the computer. Easiest method.
