I am trying to help my friend to enable dictation for ipad mini, when go to setting-general-keyboard-enable dictation is not in her ipad mini, why? It is on my ipad mini. The speaker is not there when she open the keyboard on her ipad mini. She wants to speak in Notes instead writing every word. Can any one help? Thanks

Try turning Siri "On".
Setting>General>Siri>On

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off iPad
2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

Must point out that this is the first time I have ever tryed to update my iPad, other than when I got it started at the store where I abought it.

Trying to help elderly friend remotely

Hi.
I'm in Spain and a good friend, a lady of mature years, has recently returned to UK. She has had BT Total Broadband Installed (correction, she had to install it herself!).
She has recently been getting a "welcome to this BT Fon Hotspot" rather than her connection to the Internet. She has tried to get help but has been connected to someone who she cannot understand in India.
She has her router in the hall and her PC in a spare room so she is connecting to her router via Wifi.
Whilst I know a little about Broadband, routers etc I have no idea what is going on here. I have no experience with BT Broadband etc.
Can someone throw some light on this so that I can try and help her (I shall be visiting her at the end of the week so will be able to get hands on then).

can I add that if the intension is to connect wireless then I would suggest that you don't install the BT cd as that is known to cause problems with wireless connection. just let windows manage the connection. I would also suggest you check for surrounding networks using inssider2 from metageek. It's free and you will be able to see any competing networks and if necessary select a free channel or a less congested one.

Trying to help a friend out with scripting problems in PS CS4

My friend at work has a mbp-c2d. He has scripting errors come up in photoshop when using Contact sheet II, photomerge, or HDR. He has recently upgraded from CS3 to CS4 and has had the same problem in both. He can goto the scripts in Applications- Photoshop CS4- presets- Scripts and click on the actual script icons and they will work but not through the program. Reloading programs doesn't seam to help. He is useing leopard.

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here - I've asked the hosts to remove the card code from your post.
As it's a £25 card I assume that your account is also based in the UK (cards are country-specific). If it is and the page that you posted from doesn't help (the code on my card is longer, so is it possible that you've scratched some of it off ?) then you will need to try contacting iTunes support (you will need to give them as much of the serial number and activation code from the card as you can read) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then iTunes Cards And Codes

How to help my friend install Microsoft Office for Mac 2008

Hello, I have a friend in North Carolina whose mom recently got a MacBook Pro running OS X Mountian Lion (10.8), he will be coming on to join this discussion after I post it. He needs Microsoft Office for his mom and I just happened to have purchase 3 licenses (two of which I have already utilized). While talking to him over a Facetime call, I walked him through the steps of getting the free office for mac 2008 package from download.com (which seemed kind of sketchy). While the download actually looked legitimate, we ran the installer and it gave some kind of weird error message that said something like "Could not be installed onto Macintosh HD because the Mac OS X is not on that parition" (I'm paraphrasing my friend will contribute the actual message). Could someone please walk us through an easier (and preferably more secure) process? We just need to get to the point where I can give him my last license key. Thanks!

You will have to check with Microsoft but I think what you are doing is illegal. The 3 license pack I think means 1 user 3 computers, not 2 users 3 computers.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
