Hi r,
It sounds like you're running Lion?
Have you tried running Verify and/or Repair Disk?
Have you tried running Repair Permissions?
Do you have at least 15% free space available on your HD?

Hi I do not want iTunes to open up automatically when I turn on my macbook pro. I tried going to System Preferences>Users and Groups>Login Items and then I took iTunes off the list but it still opens up automatically when I turn on my laptop. What should I do?
Hi r,
Make sure you close iTunes before shutdown. And you're quite welcome. -
I cannot keep my computer from showing applemail mailboxes when I start up. When I go to system preferences, users and groups, login items nothing is listed. If I try listing mail and then restarting and deleting it, that does not work. What to do next?
System Preference > General
At the bottom of the section "Number of recent items"
uncheck the box next to "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".
Best. -

How to stop PSE9 from starting automatically when I turn the computer on.
I'm running PSE9 on a imac 10.8.2
I'm not sure why but PSE has just started opening up when I turn the computer on. How do I change this prefernce?
Thanks
TaraIt could be that you have Restore Windows turned on system preferences>General. If that's not it, go to system preferences>users and groups>your account>log in items and make sure it's not in there.

How do I stop the task panes from opening automatically when I open a PDF?
How do I stop the task panes from opening automatically when I open a PDF?
When I open some of my PDFs the task panes open too. I do not want them to as I have never used them in reader for any purpose. I use reader to READ PDFs. I don't need the task panes and don't want them opening when reader starts.Adobe seem to have decided that they are so important that you must see them. Perhaps because it is their chance to sell you stuff. It seems to vary between releases, are you on the latest? Curiously, many people have no idea how to open and close these panels.

Iphoto open automatically when I turn computer on
Iphoto open automatically when I put my computer on and I can't solve the problem. I have checked the login items on the system preferences and iphoto is not one of the checked items. I even played with it a few times to see wether it was simply stuck but the problem persisted. I checked previous solutions to that same question but they all say to uncheck the logged in items on the accounts. Thank you so much for your help.
Do you have any external drives connected, that could be mistaken for a camera? Drives or thumbdrives with MS-DOS (FAT32) formatting? Then set the "General" preference in iPhoto "Connecting a camera" opens to "No Application".
Do you quit iPhoto when you log off? If not, the log off option "Reopen windows when logging back in" may be active and auto launching iPhoto. -

Deselect them in itunes and sync. -

How can I stop Firefox from loading automatically when I startup my computer?
A while ago I setup Windows so Outlook and Firefox opened automatically when I log on. Now I want to stop FF from opening automatically. I have gone into the Startup folder and removed the shortcut to FF several times but it keeps coming back. I changed the name of Mozilla Firefox in the Windows Programs Directory to xxMozilla Firefox and that didn't keep it from loading. If necessary, I will remove FF from my computer altogether but I would rather not do that.
Aaarg! I tried Matt's suggestion of using msconfig, restarted my computer, and it seemed to solve the problem. Today when I turned on the computer it hung up before loading Windows. I had to use the F12 button to get it to load. I did and it did and Firefox did not load.
Now, this evening, I turned on the computer, the startup procedure was normal, and there's Firefox fired up and ready to go! -
How do I get a program to start up when I turn my computer on?
You know how in the dock, there's a little triangle under a program that's technically running even if you don't have a window open? Dashboard and Finder always have that triangle after start up. How do I get another program, like Safari to "start up" with that triangel all the time even if I don't want to have the browser window open when I turn my computer on?
Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences, add it to the list of login items for your account, and check the box to hide it. Some applications, such as Mail, ignore the box in Mac OS X 10.4 and are always visible when launched; in this case, an AppleScript can be used to hide them.

I trasferred pictures over from my computer to my iPhone 5 and now i cannot delete these pictures from my phone, and i cannot work out how to delete them from my phone by the computer as the pictures do not show up in my files on the computer, how can i remove them i have over 400 pictures that need removing?
If you have a Mac with iPhoto, plug the iPhone in and open iPhoto. Choose to import the photos. Once they have been imported, there should be an option to "Remove Imported Photos from Device". Choose this.
