I am unable to unlock my computer?

I was able to unlock my MacBook Pro and then closed it and am now unable to unlock it. Help please!!!!

More details please...
What does 'unable to unlock it' mean? Do you mean
- there is no login window
- there is a login window but I can't enter anything
- there is a login window, but when I enter my pwd, it rejects it
- there is a login window, it accepts my pwd, but the computer doesn't do anything after that
As you can see, there's a few different possibilties, and the help you need will be different depending on the details.

  • Unable to unlock computer due to impossibility to switch between input sources

I cannot unlock my computer after wake up under the following circumstances.
    - In System Preferences - Language and Text - Input Sources, I have the following input sources:
        - US
        - Bulgarian
    - In System Preferences - Language and Text - Input Sources, I've chosen the "Allow a different one for each document" option
    - My shortcut for "select previous input source" is Cmd-Space
    - In System Preferences - Security and Privacy - General, I've chosen "Require password 5 seconds after sleep or screen saver begins"
    - My password for login is using US layout characters only
    - In System Preferences - Desktop & Screen Saver - Hot Corners, I've chosen "Put Display to Sleep" on the lower right corner, others are empty.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Open Safari and switch to Bulgarian keyboard layout with Cmd-Space
    2. Use the trackpad to direct cursor in the lower right corner in order to activate screen sleep
    3. Wait 5 seconds for the lock to be engaged
    4. Wake up the computer with the trackpad or keyboard and enter your password to unlcok the computer
Result: The password dialog is shaking, suggesting the password is wrong. If I try to change the input source by pressing Cmd-Space, there is a sound heard from the OS X suggesting I am pressing a shortcut which isn't allowed. There's no visual menu to switch between keyboard layouts. I am most probably stuck with the last keyboard layout used on the last open application which is Bulgarian and since my password is in US, I cannot unlock the computer. I need to reset my computer by holding down the power button in order to be able to log in again.
This is the first time I felt my Mac is letting me down. To be honest, I can't understand how such a critical bug has managed to go unnoticed by the quality assurance team at Apple.

Similar probs here as those reported in initial mail of this thread.
    OS X 10.9.2.
    Two input sources installed.
Both are lattin based. No Cyryllic, nor far East, nor Judish, nor Arabic,....
Simply two lattin based input sources - keyboards.
Even under lattin keyboards there are different key layouts.
I know one possible difference: qwerty and qwertz.
Possibly there are more other layouts than these two.
Lets assume these two input sources, layouts: 1 and 2.
For certain user account the password was set while layout 1 was selected.
Then the user edits some texts, he selects for this keyboard layout/input source 2.
User makes Sleep OS X, or logs off.
Layout 2 keeps to be active.
User wants to unlock the mac.
It is not possible because password is konform with layout 1,
at the time of unlocking however layout 2 is selected.
It is not possible to select the another layout - user can not unlock os x.

  • System unable to unlock login keychain

I had a very unfortunate problem with adware this morning and used Adwaremedic to remove it. The program prompted me to restart after removing the adware. Now when I log in to my account I have two windows -- one tells me the system was unable to unlock my login keychain and gives me three options: continue login, create new keychain, and update keychain password. The other window says 'calendaragent wants to use the login keychain'. If I hit cancel, then it pops up again with different programs that want my login keychain such as addressbooksourcesync or com.apple.icloudhelper.xpc. I'm not sure whether or not I should trust this and put in my password.
Anyone here had a similar experience?

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Hi, unable to unlock my i pod touch,

Hi, unable to unlock my i pod touch, the pod says connect to itunes, but wen connected to itunes it says unabe to connect without passcode

You need to place your iPod in recovery mode and restore it via iTunes on your computer.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
You could have found this solution is you would have searched the iPod Touch forum since the same question gets asked many time each day.

  • I am unable to unlock my ipad, it says "connct to itunes" any help?

i am unable to unlock my ipad, it says"connect to itunes", any help?

See if any of these suggestions help.
Tap the "waiting" or "installing" icon and see if you can pause it. If it does pause, then tap it again and see if it will resume. If that works, repeat the same steps for each icon.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, you might be best served if you download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • HT1212 unable to unlock broken iphone

My iphone 4 was dropped and badly damaged, i am trying to save photos etc to computer but cannot as unable to unlock as screen  wont work. is there any other way of unlocking it/confirming my password, and syncing to my new computer?

No. There is no way around it short of finding someone to fit it with a new display so that you can enter the passcode (Not an easy thing to do without losing all the data on the phone) which would forfeit your ability to get the phone replaced by Apple.

  • Ipod locked and unable to unlock

i have been having some problems w/ my ipods hard drive. i think i was able to fix the problem but a new one arrived. my ipod is locked and i am unable to unlock it. everything else appears fine but i just can't unlock it. i plugged it into my computer and it synced w/ itunes just fine. so i tried to reset it and toggle the hold button. i tried to reset it w/ the select and menu button. i tried to restore it but that didnt' work either. i was just wondering if there was a way to unlock it through itunes or if there is anything else that i might be able to do to unlock it.
    thanks

Hi. From what I've learned, you have to restore it, which will erase the hard drive so you better have everything backed up if you want it back. I'm still doing that...have yet to attempt the magical "restore"...if that even works. Did you know that if your warranty is expired, they can charge you $30 bucks to help you...over the phone! Stupid update! Good luck.

  • Unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Snow Leopard using Lion

Anyone else unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Leopard and Snow Leopard with Lion?  I know that they made changes with the release of FileVault 2 on Lion and Snow Leopard cannot use Lion encrypted disks but I thought it was backwards compatible where Lion should still be able to work with Snow Leopard created images (it was in the pre-release versions of Lion).
When attempting to mount an encrypted disk image created with Snow Leopard on Lion the normal password prompt appears but then just reappears every time the password is entered and does not unlock and mount the image.  I'm positive the correct password is being entered and it works just fine when done on a machine running Snow Leopard.

Not in cases when the computer successfully boots to one OS but produces three beeps when an attempt is made to boot it to another. If it really was a RAM problem that serious, the computer wouldn't get as far as checking the OS version, and it has no problems booting Lion. In the event of a minor RAM problem, it wouldn't produce three beeps like that at all.

  • HP encrypted drive :Unable to unlock media

    Hello,
I have encountered a problem which caused me unable to access my laptop.
When i start my pc yesterday, after key-in my password at WinMagic screen(which is the screen before Windows start), then a pop-up shows "Unable to unlock media, please re-try after the computer restart"
So i did, but the outcome are the same with same pop-up message.
I tried searching on google and found one relevant case saying that i will have to leave my lappy for 4 days, 2 for the drive itself to encrypt and 2 for itself to decrypt.
Other case says that only HP recovery can help to restore my access yo Windows.
I do not have recovery file and that i do not want to lose all my data, please advise me what to do to resolve this issue.
    Thanks so much.

I logged a support ticket about this issue. This is what i got back after a couple of weeks. I never went thourgh the whole thing as the user i had the issue with just backed all there data up and we whiped the drive and reinstalled. But see the below. The username and password probably dont work anymore but you can atleast use the below to get hp to help out. Sorry i dont have the file anymore from that ftp either. There are alot of images that go with the below as well but i just copyed the text. Thank you for contacting HP Customer Care Centre. This e-mail is in reference to theWe appreciate your patience while troubleshooting and resolving the issue. Issue: Drive Encryption Issue Please try the below steps and download the tool from the below link:    FTP Access  :     ftp://temps2er:[email protected]     Drop Box Host:    h2.usa.hp.com  (15.201.164.55, Failover: 15.240.92.59)    Login:            temps2er    Password:         ma!PC3zp  (NOTE: CASE-sensitive)Its strongly recommended that the hard drive is backed up prior to repairing. This is an encrypted hard drive and will need to be backed up with a disk duplicator or drive dock, performing a sector by sector copy to another hard drive.Obtain the SDWmgRecovery.exe tool and SD WinPE ISO from Third Level support.Attach the encrypted drive as a secondary drive to a computer with Windows 7 (x64 bit) or Windows 8.X (x64 bit) that can boot to Windows.Once the drive is attached determine which driveletter is the encrypted drive and where the WinMagicSECURDOC.WMG file is located. Typically this is a hidden file and an OS file so check the file attributes to view and make a note of the path and the filenameWMG file.

NOTE: If help is required for proper switch usage, refer to Figure 5.
Figure 5. Switch usageThe following command repairs the SDSpace and re-links the MBR:
SDWmgRecovery -w "g:\WinMagicSECURDOC.WMG " - f (Assuming G:\WinMagicSECURDOC.WMG is the location of the WMG file).
NOTE: Forcing the update should not harm the hard drive. It it recommended to run the -f command to verify linking. After the initial error is corrected, install the drive back into the original computer, attempt to boot from the disk and login to Windows. At this time, the unit may start and allow a sucessful login. If this occurs the repair is completed. However, the computer may display a BCD error. If one of the following BCD errors are displayed, continue to step 7:
    Boot\BCD error Status: 0xc0000098
    Or
Boot\BCD error Status: 0xc000000fTo resolve the BCD Error, obtain the SD WinPE bootable disk ISO from third level support. Boot from this CD in the computer with the encrypted drive installed as the primary hard drive.
NOTE: For Microsoft Windows 8 and 8.1 computers, disable Secure Boot within the F10 BIOS setup. Also switch the Mode from Native to Hybrid to allow the computer to boot from the CD.Navigate to the TBLauncher.

One drive partition should show a key by it at this time. If it does not, as shown in Figure 7, perform steps 2 – 5 again, or you may want to engage 3LS for assistance.
