I'am using iPhone4 linked with iTunes on Windows7. Now my wife also gets an iPhone and will use it with iTunes on Mac. Can we use the same iTunes account? What needs to be considered (pros/cons)?

Who can help?

Yes, you both can use the same iTunes account, and many users do this. The SLA permits the sharing of iTunes content among up to 5 family members in the same household. Make sure you first authorize your wife's computer: Store>Authorize this Computer.
However, your wife will need her own Apple ID(verifiable email address), for iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc. You can create an Apple ID here:

  • Multiple user profiles on Mac-can all access the same itunes/iphoto data?

    Hi all,
    Just quick question.
Is it possible to set up one mac with multiple users that have their own profiles ( own mail accounts etc) BUT all share the same i photo / itunes / i cal data files etc ? I want to combine the various libraries from a couple of our Mac's and merge them onto one new Imac that I am now sharing with my partner.
We both have iphones and so want to be able to both access our shared photos / music diary etc - but still choose different set ups etc for each of our iphones through seperate itunes through the different profiles?
    Does this make sense?
Can any one shed any light on this for me?
    Cheers
    Paul

You almost might want to post this on the specific and various application forums to get information on how to do each program. Unfortunately OSX makes it incredibly difficult to bulk share files. It has a shared folder for common use, but from my experience unless you hand-edit permissions for each file you can only copy files from that area, not edit them.

  • Can I sync the same iTunes library on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro?

Can I sync the same iTunes library on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro?  I've been connecting my iPhone to each and it's causing problems for me with them being different, despite my purchases always being under the same Apple ID.

The easy way to do this is to keep the library on an external drive which you can plug into either computer.  Of course this isn't always the desirable solution.  You can try routinely copying the library from computer to computer though this gets tiresome.

I paid my iphone and it still isn´t mine becouse i can´t use it the way i want, why ? for example i can´t do nothing without iTunes ?
this is so stone age and android is so futristic compared to iphone since android can be use the way anyone wants and you can share or send anything to anyone with just using wi-fi direct or BT not to talk about free apps and music and video downloads :S so i have paid for my iphone but still it isn´t mine since im limited in a use of it

    Let's try to explain this:
iPhones operate on iOS, which has the highest level of safeguards against malware.  There have been ZERO reported & confirmed cases of a non-jailbroken iOS device suffering from malware.
Android's operate on an OS that actually ALLOWS significant modifications to the system, which, by definition, allows malware to easily infiltrate the device.  Does it happen to all Android users?  No.  But percentage wise,it's basically infinitely more likely for an Android user to suffer from malware than an iOS user.
79 percent of all mobile device malware targets the Android platform.  That's means an Android is 113 times more likely than even a jailbroken iOS device to suffrer from malware.
    http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/news/2291561/android-malware-makes-up-79-percent-of-to tal-threats-warns-us-department-of-homeland-security
Apple iOS and "other" operating systems were both listed as being the victims of 0.7 percent of all mobile malware.
The low number of threats targeting Apple iOS, despite the popularity of its iPhone and iPad devices, is largely due to the closed security model. This model forces developers to sell their wares on Apple's official App Store, which closely vets all applications before allowing them into the marketplace.

  • HT4436 Why is my daughter receiving my text messages on her itouch when I send them from my iphone? We are both on icloud so how can I separate the two? Do I need another icould or apple account??

Why is my daughter receiving my text messages on her itouch when I send them from my iphone? We are both on icloud so how can I separate the two? Do I need another icould or apple account??

It's happening because you are using the same Apple ID for iMessage.  You don't need to do anything with your iCloud account to fix this.  You should create a separate Apple ID for her device to use with iMessage and FaceTime.  (You can continue to share the same ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores if you wish; it doesn't need to be the same as the ID you use for other services.)  Once you've done this, on her device go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID.  Do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.
Another caution is that if you share and iCloud account with her, any data you both sync with the account such as contacts, will be merged and the merged data will appear on both devices.  If you don't want to end up with each other's contacts, calendars, etc. on your devices, you should have separate iCloud accounts to.  If you want to make this change, go to Settings>iCloud on her device and tap Delete Account.  (This only deletes the account from the device, not from iCloud.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data be sure to choose Keep On My iPod.  Then set up a new iCloud account with her new ID, turn on iCloud data syncing again, and when prompted choose Merge.

I am trying to download the latest version of iTunes to my PC (windows XP) and I keep getting an error message or two. One is that it can't uninstall the previous itunes version, the other is that it can't find itunes.msi. I have tried removing  the old version in add/remove programs, but it says the same error. I tried deleting every thing that has itunes in the file/folder/etc and it didn't help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes wants to  deletes all data off of my iphone so i click cancel
i want to update to iOS 5 and still have itunes be able to copy my playlists from my iphone. for free. why does apple provide a recovery from iphone option?

If you have a backup, restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the computer.  This restores the library and device association files.  If for some reason you chose to only back up the media and not the entire iTunes folder, then the only option is to let iTunes wipe the drive and re-sync.

  • Can I have the same iTunes and iPhoto on different users?

I have 2 user accounts on my Laptop. Mine is the main one with all the music on iTunes and the photos on iPhoto. I was wondering if there is anyway, I can add these photos and music to the other user on my laptop.
It is a macbook running on - Version 10.8.2 and a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Many thanks for any help.
    Ollivia

    Yes-
To do this you need to get an external Hard-drive with enough storage space to hold your entire iTunes/iPhoto library. Then go to Finder and open your home folder, then locate music and find the iTunes folder.
From here copy the folder onto you external drive. Then, locate the itunes folder in the other user, and replace the iTunes folder on your external drive with the folder in the music folder. Do the same with the iPhoto library. Then, you should have the same iTunes library and iPhoto library on both. You could then delete the itunes folder off of the external drive and use it for time-machine if you wanted.
    Hope this helps.

Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
    Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Leopard - This will install a "fresh" copy Leopard without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
If you still want to restore your computer to factory level...
Start up from your install disc, go to Disk Utility and select the disk and click erase - to securely erase data click Security Options and Erase Free Space which will entirely wipe your disk, overwriting it with zeros so that no data is recoverable.
To restore read the instructions in the Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard - Installation and Setup Guide  PDF

  • How can I have the same Itunes on 2 computers?

I used to do everything from work so I use my itunes there.
But when I want to do some changes/backups during the week-end, I can't since it's not the same itunes on my laptop.
I use the same Apple ID though.   How can I make it the same ??
The one on my laptop is older and I only update the one from work.  I wish that all my purchases and everything were reflected on my laptop one.
I now just switched and am fully in Apple mode : Iphone4s, ipod, ipad2...  but can't seem to have all of them working on the same itune on 2 computers.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to AD!
Yes, you can do this. It takes a little setting up. Here is a CNET video that I thnk explains it very well:

I have a really slow PC, with my whole iTunes Library on.. Is it going to be possible for me to transfer my whole library to a new PC but keep the library on the slow PC as well? Thanks in advance.

  • Can I have the same iTunes library on 2 computers?

I have iTunes on my desktop PC, but now I want to use it on my laptop.
I've downloaded iTunes on the laptop, but when I log in to my account, none of my music appears.
I have my library backed up on my desktop hard drive, so do I have to import all of that music onto my laptop?
I guess I assumed that my account could go with me where ever I signed in.

How to Copy and Move your Music Files from One Computer to Another
This is the conceptual framework with related and important links. Apply and adapt it to your specific situation and equipment resources.
The safest, quickest, and most optimal method to move your Library to a new computer is to actually clone the entire ‘iTunes’ folder (directory) structure, rather than just copying just the song files. By copying the entire ‘iTunes’ folder and all sub-folders, you capture not only the music files, but the all-important ‘iTunes Library.itl’ database file (usually located in the ‘iTunes’ folder), which contains all the data about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). See: What are the iTunes Library files?
Install iTunes on the new computer. Then go back to your old computer and move (copy) the "iTunes" folder which usually resides inside your "…\My Documents\My Music" folder from the old computer to the exact same place (both Drive Letter and complete Path) on the new computer. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will look and behave exactly the same way it did on the old, Play Counts, Ratings, Comments and all!
NOTE: It is usually safer moving files between computers with the same version of iTunes!!
Here's a list of methods to copy and move your music files from one computer to another:
    1) Use an External Hard Drive (ExHD) to move the complete files and Folder structures from one computer to another (my preferred option). You can clone’ the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure in one very easy step. Also great to have available for complete backups of your Library. External hard drives now run less than $100 for 200-250GBs of storage. See This Link
    2) Directly connect the two computers....
    - 2a) Connect them through a Router &/or Network
    - 2b) Directly connect using an Ethernet cable: Straight for using at least one Mac; or Crossover for PC/PC Instructions here.
    - 2c) Connect them via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. Example here. There are various types out there (use Google).
....Then copy the files from one computer to the other.
    3) Use the iPod as a transfer device, as this extensive Apple link explains. It will be a bit easier if your iPod has a larger capacity than your music collection, otherwise you will need to perform multiple copy/move transfers. This well written process also works fine while using any other data transfer medium (ExHD, Flash Drive, DVD, CD, Zipp, Jazz, etc.).
    4) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7GBs each) with your music data files and folder structure, and load them onto the new computer. Re-writable DVDs are more cost effective (if your DVD drive can manage these types).
    5) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #4 above and load the files and folders on the new computer. Re-writable CDs are more cost effective (if your CD drive can manage these types).
    6) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB - 4GB) to move the files and folders. Best if the flash drive is larger than your Library, otherwise you will need multiple copy/move transfers.
These are links to various additional instructions on performing the transfer (read them all, but some listed steps may not be required depending on your specific situation):
