    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you erase an iPod touch, your information, apps and settings are deleted and iOS is back to factory settings. If she wanted an iPod touch with camera, she should return it after erasing it. Note that the iPod touch doesn't store her credit card information

    You can't reverse the erase.
Restore from your iTune or iCloud backup.

  • Difference between "restore" and "erase all content and settings"?

    Hello,
I was wondering what is the difference between "Restore" on itunes and "Erase all content and settings" on iphone?
Is it the same and if yes why does it take longer to "Erase all content and settings" on iphone?

The restore only deletes all the data and reinstalls the iPhone Operating System, but someone can still carve out deleted information if they know what they are doing. The erase all content and settings will delete and overwrite everything on the iPhone so it is impossible to even extract any data from the iPhone.
Personally I've only used the erase all content and settings when I've had to return my iPhone to Apple for technical difficulties or when I've sold an iPhone to someone else. There is no reason to do this method if you are simply reinstalling the Operating System for yourself.

  • Does "reset and erase all content" update iOS?

    Hi guys,
My girlfriend has an iPhone 4 that has been giving her a lot of problems lately. I want to restore it but I don't want to update it to iOS 6 just yet. Instead of restoring through iTunes, if I restore via settings>general>"reset settings and erase all content" will that restore the phone WITHOUT updating it to iOS 6? Please let me know. Thanks

I understand that my chances of having issues are very slim. But articles like the one below make me nervous because if i update and have issues, Apple doesnt let me downgrade, meaning we would be stuck with crappy battery life and literally no way to fix it. Not a position I want to be in. I understand that the internet can blow things way out of portortion, but still.
    http://www.networkworld.com/news/2012/100212-iphone-battery-262963.html
I understand that article refers to 6.0, but most of what i have read has said that people with battery issues havent seen it get better with 6.1 Thats why i was hoping to see a statistic of those affected. I just would hate to pull the trigger and have her battery die on her every afternoon. Just because 300 million are running iOS 6 doesnt mean 300 million are running it issue free. Any amount of them could be having trouble, but you would never know, because thanks to Apple, you CANT downgrade.

  • How do i reset and erase all content settings when i dont know my restriction password

How do I reset and erase all content without knowing a restriction passcode

You can't. You have to get into settings in order to erase all content and settings. You have to restore the devics using iTunes and you have to restore as new or if you restore the backup, you will just be restoring the restrictions code that you can't remember.
Do not backup the iPad since you will not be able to use it.

  • IPod Touch Stopped Working after erasing all content and settings

I have a 32GB Touch I bought in January from Amazon. I just got the new iPhone and was planning selling the Touch. I used the "Erase all content and settings" and, since then, the iPod Touch does not respond. I let it sit over night since the manual says it can take a while but no joy. I've tried all the reset options. iTunes does not recognize it either.
    Any suggestions?
Additionally, I have the receipt from Amazon but can I take it to an Apple store if it needs a fix/replacement?
    Thanks in advance.

I was able to spend more time digging in the forum and came across the solution (thanks to modular747). Although this solution specified the iPhone, it worked fine on my Touch:
    Do a DFU recovery:
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. Connect the iPhone
3 Press both the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple icon appears (ignore the red slider if it shows).
    4. Continue pressing the home button alone until iTunes sees your phone in recovery mode.
    5. Follow the prompts to restore the iPhone.

  • HT1351 ipod nano configured for apple want to transfer to PC (pop says it will reformat and erase all content which I don's want to happen)

I want to transfer content from my older shuffle or nano to my pc.  I get a message that says the shuffle or nano was created with a mac and message says that if I reformat it will erase all content on the ipod.   I am going from the ipod to pc and hopefully to iphone and ipad

Well you won't be able to copy this content from your Shuffle or Nano to your PC without the help of third party software such as XPLay since both iPod's are Mac formatted.
Otherwise, you'll have to transfer the contents to a Mac first and then transfer them over to your PC via an external hard drive, usb flash drive, or via Home Sharing if possible.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • What is the difference between retore and erase all content and settings

i was wondering what is the difference an ordinary retore in itunes and a erase all content and setting on my ipod touch. do they both do the same thing because i might sell my ipod and also does this process require you to connect to itunes after or can you just give it to the new user.

Erase all settings restores the device to its original factory state. All your stuff is gone and there is no iOS installed.
iTunes Restore simply replaces the device content with that from your last backup. It does not change the version of nor install a version of iOS. Whateve version of iOS is on the device remains.
Restore is used if you are having a problem with something on your device. Erase all Settings is used to remove everything in the event you were selling the device and wanted to clear it of all your files and data.

  • Why does it say its going to erase my iphone from my account when i try to erase all content from my phone?

I am trying to factory reset my Iphone5 by clicking settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings. After this is displays a window saying Password Required enter your Apple ID password to erase this IPhone and remove it from your account. I don't want to erase the phone from my account I just want to erase what's on it so old notifications will stop showing up.

The message means that you will be deleting your iCloud account from the device, and therefore removing it from Find My iPhone.  Erasing all content and settings completely erases your phone, including all your accounts and settings.  If you then set up your phone and sign back into your iCloud account, enabling Find My iPhone again (or restore your backup), it will then be associated with your account again.

  • HT4623 I cannot update my iPhone 4.  I have reset and erased all content and my phoine still does not have a "software update" under the general settings.  What now?

I cannot update my iPhone 4.  I have erased all content and reset the phone, however, there is still no "software update" under the general settings on my phone.  I keep trying to download the update through iTunes and it quits everytime without success.  Any suggestions?

READ the entire article from which the question was posted.
It clearly states that the "Update Software" option ONLY applies to iOS 5 and later.
If there are issues with updating via iTunes, provide specific details of what is occurring so that we can offer relevant solutions.

Is there a way to erase all content on a 1st generation nano without connecting to my pc?

No, you need to connect it to a computer running iTunes to manage the iPod's content (or erase it).

  • Error message- "LR has encountered problems reading this photo" after installing LR 5.6 on new computer and retrieving all contents from old HD from external HD.

    Hi-
I got a new PC laptop, retrieved all old HD contents from my external HD, installed LR 5.6 (5.4 on previous PC) and when I tried to open up my old Lightroom catalog it has an error saying "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo.  You will not be able to make adjustments to this photo".  I tried to open the catalog straight from my external HD with the same error message. I've read about four billion forum threads to try to figure it out- files do not seem to be missing as most threads indicate.  The other threads suggest there is a corruption with the file, but I don't THINK that is the case.  Are there any other suggestions?   If the file is corrupted, how do I find out for sure?  Have I lost all my edits??
Thanks for your help and time!

  • Editing Sound File and erases all sound from slides

I created a 19 slide project. As Captivate does a
poor job of determining when sound starts vs when a slide appears,
I wanted to move the audio from slide 1 to slide 2. I did that and
all the audio on the remaining slides was gone! Is this a bug or
    did I do something wrong?

Actually, the sound from all slides wound up imbedded within
the first slide. Now, how do I get everything back in
    sync???
