I bought a second hand Mac book pro and have no way of getting admin password what can I do

I bought a used mac book and when I try to download it asks for my MacBook password as I don't know it and no way of finding it out how can I change admin to me without knowing past admin password

What operating system? Lion, Snow Leopard?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 7. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
You might have to log out or reboot before a Flash update takes effect.
Step 2
In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
Close the window. Then select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
Step 4
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.

from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Open this folder as in Step 4:

Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
Step 6
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
Step 7
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
Then click the button marked
Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
Step 8
Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

My copy of flash installed as a preferance pane.
If its there you will be able to check the current installed version and set preferences for flash and updating.

I bought 2 mac book pros and have time capsule connected to router. Both computers can see time capsule but i can not see other computers.

I bought 2 mac book pros. At home i already had a network with a timecapsule connected to a router and a windows xp lap top connected to it. When i turned both macs on i was able to see the time capsule and the windows xp computer HOWEVER neither mac could see each other......any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Linc ......you were right on the money. Your help has been awsome. I spent 3 hours last night doing stuff with out any solutions. May I ask you another question if you have the time and patience please. My orriginal setup was 2 windows laptops with XP on them connected with a timecapsule attached to a router. Hence the time capsule made a wireless signal aswell as being an external hard drive. On one of the laptops i have a printer attached to it which was shared so that the other computer could print documents through the network however the computer attached to the printer has to be on. Do you know what i have to do so these new 2 mac book pros can print to that printer? Thanks again for all your previous help. Nick

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. What approximate values are shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec?
Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

Bought new battery for Mac Book Pro and it won't charge/hold charge...HELP!

My MBP has been running solely on power adapter for months, I finally bought a replacement battery for my MBP 15" and installed it to charge yesterday. The light on my adapter never turned green. And when I went to unplug it, it immediately powered down, even thought it showed 15% power on the screen. When I press the silver button on the battery all five light up green. What am I doing wrong here?? Also, even if the new battery is in the computer and my power adapter is in the computer still powers down. What next??

I hope the warranty on your junk battery will be honored. You wouldn't be the first person to be victimized by the sellers of such junk batteries, many of whom have failed to honor their so-called warranties or been completely untraceable when push came to shove.

HELP! I have a new mac book pro and I'm having problems getting it to print. We are trying to do it through the network (wireless). It keeps pausing or telling me the connection failed

Ok. I have a new macbookpro which I love. However, we can't get it to print. We just got Comcast with a modem and wireless router. We can all get into the net wirelessly (4 of us). My son set our PC to share the printer, gave it a name and got his PC to work through it. Mine kept pausing (it's been a week now). Finally connected directly to the printer and it immediately went out and found the drivers (for all HP photosmart series) and installed them (I think they are installed. At least they are listed under drivers in the print/fax section). We then did a test print with it hooked up and it worked. Back to wireless and it keeps pausing or telling me it can no longer communicate with the printer. Tried going back and printing while connected to the cable and it didn't work. Several pages of one liners with gibberish on it (some words like fax, document it) but then it failed. I did tell it the wrong model of printer the other day and there is a picture of it under the real printer (which is listed by the name we gave it on my pc). But I know have the correct driver and it shows it in the bar under the driver listing. The other picture of the wrong model is not highlighted and I don't know how to delete it). It just keeps pausing and telling me I'm no longer connected to the printer. BTW, It tells me the printer is ready and shows the name prior to trying to print. We've tried everything including many suggestions from others. Any suggestions? I find it strange I was able to print yesterday while connected directly and tonight it failed (otherwise the printer is working for others). THANKS SO MUCH! You may already have one. E-mail servers provide support for POP or IMAP, and sometimes both. How you access the account depends on how you set it up on your device. You'll need to check with your e-mail provider and see if they support accessing your account via IMAP. If they do, you'll need to re-create the account on both the Mac and the iPhone to use the IMAP settings instead of the POP settings. (Note that when you delete a POP account, all e-mail in the In box will be deleted. Move any e-mail you don't want to lose into an "On My Mac" mailbox on the Mac beforehand.)
Also, if you have set the iPhone to sync e-mail messages in iTunes, turn that off. You won't need that with IMAP.

I just bought a second hand mac book, and I would like to register it to ;y account to be able to access things (like my ibooks) registered from my iPad directly on my mac book.
the previous owner asked the apple supprt and they said I need to contact them to make them update the information about this mac book to my account, but I can't contact them because the mac book does not have any guarantee anymore ... I don't need a technical supprt, just need to update the mac book information to my accound.

thnaks for the answer. The previous owner asked apple care to disassociate the mac but they said that the new owner needs to contact them so that they can update the ownership (apparently they can't leave it with nobody).
In fact the previous owner erased the HDD, and as it is my first mac book, I did not have any licence to re-install it so we re-installed it with his accout.

Word 2011 for Mac Book pro - I have found that my cursor disappears sometimes when I click on a toolbar function. I found out it is a bug, that the Mac loses 'focus'. I can correct it temporarily by clicking on Format - Font - Cancel. Any info?

I have Word 2011 on a Mac Book Pro and have had problems with a dissapearing cursor - it makes editing tricky
After googling it I found out that there is a bug where the Mac loses focus if you click away from the document - it also does this with italics according to other users.
I had a play with it and found out that when I click on the toolbar in a document where this happens, the cursor disappears, e.g. changing font colour etc. And then, when I click on Format - Font - Cancel it returns

BTW (speaking as a Dad of 3 daughters in Grad school) if you don't already have and use a DropBox account, or some other similar online "cloud" based backup of your school documents, you should start doing so immediately. By keeping all of your important documents in the Dropbox folder on your computer, you have instant access to them from any other computer (or iPad), should you be w/o your computer while in for repairs (or if, God forbid, it is stolen). It's free for 2 GB of online storage, which is more than enough for a few years worth of Word documents, etc. (If you get other people to sign up via your email "invitation", then Dropbox gives you even more free storage space.) Every time you close a document, it is updated on the Dropbox servers (encrypted), if it is in the Dropbox folder (assuming you give it a few seconds to update before turning off your computer). Do a google search of "Cloud based storage comparisons" to compare the amount of free space each of the competing services give you.

.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update" It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).

I bought app in App Store on my Mac Book Pro and now it won't let me run

I bought Barcody Express on my Mac Book Pro in the App Store while up in Seattle, WA and it ran fine at first. 2 weeks later I'm back in L.A. and I get a box asking me to verify my apple ID because this is not the computer on which I bought it and it needs to authorize it for use. Then it refuses to authorize it and says to contact support. This is the same Mac Book Pro and user account on which I bought the app. My App Store account in the App Store app shows that I bought it and that it is installed. What's up with this nonsense? How do I get my app that I paid for to work? I need it right now to finish a job.

Quit the App Store. Launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize This Computer
Quit iTunes, launch the App Store.
And try "resetting" your Apple ID password > Apple - My Apple ID
