I can no longer import photos into lightroom from card reader or camera.

Just recently my Lightroom 5.3, now 5.6, has stopped allowing me to import photos from my card reader or directly from my camera. When I click the Import button, it lists the card but will not show the previews and the Import button does not become active. What is wrong?
All other modules seem to work fine.

I have the same problem. My program has worked perfectly until a few days ago.
Now the module import has the central screent in blank, empty, and not import anything.
I am also looking for a solution

  • I can no longer import photos into 4.2

Up until a few days ago I could import photos with no issues into LR 4.2. Today I am having big issues.
After I select Import Photos and Video from the File menu, the Import screen launches but it is incredibly slow. At first it has only some text and slowly it starts populating with other things like drive letters and buttons. I have been waiting for a really long time now, more than 15 miunutes, to get past this but no luck.
I also tried inserting a CF card in my card reader and auto-launch LR. Very, very slowly it started displaying the images in the card but I could never get to the point where the Import button was active.
I uninstalled LR and re-installed it, deleted the Preferences and Temp files and still no luck.
Any ideas on what might be happening?
    Thanks.

Due to hurricane Sandy we were without power today but it's finally back and I tried your suggestion. I rebooted and it worked, and I didn't have to unplug the devices.
    Thanks.

  • I can no longer import photos to Aperture from my camera...

...because when I plug my camera into the usb port it doesnt show up in the Import screen, even though my camera is flashing "busy", I've only had aperture a few weeks, but I havent had this problem before.
    what do I do?

I feel pretty strongly that camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the CF card from the camera and insert it into a CF card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable, and Firewire is much preferable to USB2.
    • Finder-copy images from CF to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject CF.
    • Burn DVD copies of the original images (optional backup step).
    • Eject DVDs (optional backup step).
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location."
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing).
    • Reformat CF in camera, and archive hard drive or DVDs of originals off site.
Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media.

  • Erase imported photo's album from card reader

Hello, Can I erase directly an entire album of imported photos?
Photos imported from the card reader are not visible from Itunes and I can only erase them one by one from my Ipad. I imported so much photos, it will be very long...

In thumbnail view, tap the Edit button at the top right of the screen and then try double-tapping a photo with two fingers but don't lift your fingers off the screen on the second tap, instead you should be able to slide your fingers back and forth across the iPad's screen and those photos should be selected.
You should also be able to delete them via your computer e.g. photos copied to the iPad via the kit should be visible to the windows camera wizard on a PC, and iPhoto, Aperture and Image Capture on a Mac - they should allos you to import them the photos to your computer and then delete them as part of the import process.

  • Why can't I import photos into Lightroom 5.6?

I have Lightroom 5.6 on a Mac and when I click import, none of my photos will show up to import. I have deleted and re-downlaoded the program and updated it. I don't know what to try next. It has been working for the past year and a half and now it just won't work.

    Thank you for your response.
Here is as much information as I can remember pertaining to my problem.
    -Canon T3i,
-SD card is a Sandisk 16 GB Extreme Plus 80MB/s
    -Windows 7 professional
-Lightroom 5.3, recently upgraded from 5.2. Not sure if there is a
    correlation there with my importing
    problem.
-I have been able to import images in the past and able to manipulate them.
I select the import button, I then select the images to import, then
select a new destination folder as I have always successfully done in the
       past, then click IMPORT.
This is the point at which Lightroom deviates from the norm and slows to
a crawl while importing the images. After a 1 ½ hour wait, I get a message
stating that none of the images I have selected for import have been
imported due to them being unreadable by Lightroom, or words to that
effect. It lists ALL of the files that I had selected for import.
I have checked all the permissions of the files and have found no hidden
or locked images. I have watched every video I can find explaining the
proper method of importing images, written the steps down one-by-one, and
followed the instructions EXACTLY, numerous times.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  • Cannot import photos into Lightroom from anywhere on my HD or external source!

Whenever I try to import a photo Lightroom simply says:
    Some operations were not performed.
Could not copy a file to requested location.
Then lists every photo that I'm trying to import but can't.
I'm using LR3, but installed most recent LR4 and its the same problem.  It was working perfectly for years!  Help!
    Thank you.

You can use the get info screen: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10605
Make sure that you have "Read & Write" permissions, and pass them to all included items (e. g. of your pictures folder or/and of your external source directory).
You can reset the home directory permissions using the resetpassword utility: http://www.fortmac.org/images/mac_101/Reset_home_folder_permissions.pdf
You also could use the chmod command in the Terminal.

  • As of a few days ago, I can no longer import photos from my Nikon Coolpix s7c into iPhoto. Never before had a problem. (it is the version prior to iPhoto 11--all Apple software is UTD)

As of a few days ago, I can no longer import photos from my Nikon Coolpix s7c into iPhoto '08. Never before had a problem.  I sent a request to Nikon for help and they referred me back to Apple.  Help, if possible, please.

As the photos imported to the test library you know that it works with your version of iPhoto (so, you can skip the paranoia about Apple making you upgrade). The issue then is the Library, so
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto try to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto ties to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

    Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.

  • I can not import photos into lightroom 4.4  Had no problem before this time.

I can not import photos into lightroom 4.4  Had no problem before this time.  I have camera raw7.4 and use a NikonD7100.  I have a Mac using 10.6.8.  I can see the images and selected for import in Lightroom, but after I check "import" I get a message that Lightroom could not read the files.  This happens with both raw and jpeg files.  Thanks for a repl

thanks for the reply. would you please tell me how to check for the folder to have write permission.  I have done the same settings as before but this time does not transfer.  It says can not read files with a code "298".  I can see the thumbnails on the screen prior to trying to import the photos, also can see them with the card in the camera and using the view mode.  I have up to date camera raw 7.4 for my Nikon D7100 and the settings allow for 7.1 and above

I have been using Lightroom 5 for 2-3 months now and all worked well, up until today's effort to import a new set of photos. I am working on a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.1.

Go to the bibliothec module, select the folder, right click on the folder and hit synchronize
Sorry I have only a german version , so don't know what your menu will show.

Does this happen if you try to Import to Library within iPhoto, or is it when you connect your camera (and which is set to automatically use iPhoto) that this error message occurs?
If you open Image Capture > Preferences is iPhoto selected as the choice when a camera is connected?

I have moved my iPhoto to an external hard drive. so now I have to have the external hard drive connected to my laptop to view the photos.  Now when I want to import photos into iPhoto from my media card, I don't have room to connect both devices at the same time as the usb ports are side by side.  How do I import my photos from the media card to the external hard drive now?

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

  • How can I avoid importing video into Lightroom CC?

    Hi all,
I am using Lightroom CC on my iMac to catalogue my photos, a task I really find Lightroom perfect for.
However, I am also using my DSLR for shooting video´s, which I edit with Final Cut Pro. Lightroom is _not_ a part of the video import/editing workflow, so I really do not want to have Lightroom import all videos in addition to all my photos.
    My question is:
How can I set up Lightroom so that it no longer import videos?
My current workflow is tedious, and really not one I like: I import everything into Lightroom, and then manually delete all the video´s.
    Your help is kindly appreciated!

Lr isn't particularly good at separating out individual files types within the import window. However, some of the third party plugins usually provide the sort of filtering you require. Unfortunately, I can't recall exactly which ones do, but you could try this one from Rob Cole as a starter http://www.robcole.com/Rob/ProductsAndServices/ImporterLrPlugin/ or http://www.robcole.com/Rob/ProductsAndServices/OttomanicImporterLrPlugin/
