I've just recently bought a white iphone formy daughter and am trying to put my sim into her old one but can only make emergency calls. How do I get round this? Not tech savvy at all as you can probably gather. Thanks

Did you connect your iPhone to the computer and sync it with iTunes? You will need the internet as well as Apple will unlock your iPhone over the internet via iTunes. Let us know if this helps.

It is possible that you don’t not have international roaming active on the account. I highly recommend adding an international plan to your line, as this can save you a great deal versus pay per use rates, which are 1.50 per minute in Denmark.

Sounds like this was a hacked iPhone...hacked to unlock it so you could use it where you live. One of the big downsides to hacking an iPhone, to unlock it, is that updating software or restoring the phone will re-lock it to the carrier it was originally locked to. This appears to be what has happened to you. You have two choices to fix things: 1. Get the phone officially unlocked, or 2. Re-hack it to unlock it(sorry, can't be discussed here). Good luck.

Can only make emergency calls

I have fitted my SIM (3G) from my Orange/Samsung phone but can only get emergency calls (I Phone 3G). When I connect the phone to my computor I get the message"the SIM may not be supported contact your supplier". Orange say the SIM should work as it works in my other phone. Any ideas please?

I was given the phone by a friend when I was in the UK a few weeks ago. He had had a free upgrade to I phone4S. Have looked at other questions on the forum and think I may have partially solved the problem. I am in France and I put my SIM from my UK Samsung into the Iphone. I purchased the Samsung in UK and have fitted the SIM in France. Of course I am now on the French network. I did ring the Orange shop in the UK where I purchased the Samsung and they talked me through rebooting the Iphone but I still get the same message that the SIM may not be allowed. Perhaps it's a network problem?

Just a thought, but maybe consider returning the device. Seems it might be a bit too complicated for you.

Forget "No Service" - phone says I can only make emergency calls

I think i've had it with this Iphone. I'm on my 2nd refurbished phone since February 2010 (since they wouldn't replace my 1st phone after it kept showing No Service) and I'm sick and tired of all these problems. At first I was having a problem with No Service coming on my phone even though i'm in an area with tons of cell towers so I replaced my SIM card and got a refurbished "new" phone to see if that solved the problem. Then I still had that problem but then I was getting on my screen what looked like a cord connecting to ITunes saying that I can only make SOS/Emergency calls. What I had to do was shut the phone off and turn it back on - which itself isn't THAT big of a deal but more of an annoyance b/c I had no idea how long it had been out. I just got a second refurbished phone yesterday and this morning I'm having the same problem. When I took the second phone to the Apple store they said there was a problem with the antenna connecting or something and that there was something like over 300 network resets. What the f**k is wrong with these phones? Is it that IOS 4.01? Can I downgrade to the previous version? Does it have to do with my email? How can I stop these problems? My friends who live in my neighborhood who have the same phone do not have these No Service problems. I'm ready to call the head of Apple and have a few choice words with him!!

If you qualify to have it unlocked by AT&T (you completed your contract and don't owe them anything) then you can use it with limited functionality on any compatible GSM carrier. There are no pre-paid options for using it with AT&T. There are known compatibility problems with T-Mobile in the US. Some people have had limited luck using it on StraightTalk.
Follow the directions you get from AT&T assuming you qualify to have it unlocked. You will need a SIM, though I don't know that it will have to be an AT&T SIM. The unlock is done by restoring the phone using iTunes.
If you just want to use it as an iPod Touch (no cellular service) you can do that, but you will need an AT&T SIM to re-activate the phone. It does not have to be tied to active service, it just has to be present.

Cannot get to passcode entry area to restore-can only make emergency call--

One minute phone was working fine the next it gave me a restore needed connect to itunes message and would only allow me to make emergency calls. When I connect the phone to the computer to itunes it tells me it cannot connect to the phone because it has a passcode, but I cannot get to the place where you enter the passcode. any suggestions? HELP!!!

If you know the passcode, enter it when prompted (if prompted).
If you do not know the passcode and/or are not prompted to enter it, your only option is to restore as new.

i got the phone in the mail earlier today from my step mom, she had cancelled her contract with at&t and was 2 weeks past the return date so she gave me the phone. i got a new SIM card and went to go set up with a at&t representative. the lady tells me that i need to sync the phone up with the itunes in order to get it going so i can make calls. i downloaded the latest version of itunes and my pc is up to date with windows 7. i CANNOT connect to itunes store through itunes. i have full internet access and there is no firewall blocking itunes from working properly. i need to make calls, this phone is for business use and i have no phone hooked up now. my blackberry is disconnected and i cannot connect the iphone and apple support center is now closed.
i noticed before, when i switched usb ports, that the device manager will not fully install all software for the device (phone). what can i possibly do? i need to make calls for business. again, i cannot get past the 'emergency calls only' screen, i have full internet access, no firewalls blocking itunes, no other phone in the house, apple is closed, and im screwed.
is there a driver i need to download and install? i cant even call at&t to restore my blackberry because i have no phone now! the main screen on the iphone4 has the itunes logo and the power cord pointing to it. the device simply wont read on itunes and the only option i have with it on itunes is to eject. i know once i can 'restore' i'll be fine and able to sync up eventually, but why wont it read the device and why wont it connect to itunes, even with using my ID and password??

under devices is the iphone and the only option is 'eject' i cannot restore or sync anything. the only sync option i have is to sync the computer's history.

So have you done as the message advises and visited a store to get a replacement SIM?
Did you purchase the phone on a contract with O2 or with another provider?

Why can I make FaceTime calls from my iPhone but not from my Mac?

Facetime on my Mac sets up properly, links to my contacts, and appears to make calls (i.e., it "rings"). But it doesn't actually connect to the other person. However, I can make Facetime calls on my phone. Huh?

i really don't know what i did wrong. i logged into itunes using my husband's id, then bought some movies. but for some reason, it downloaded them to my library, not his. now i can't put them on the ipod. is there any way to get them out of my library and into his library? i tried home sharing, but it still won't let me sync them to the ipod

Copy the movie from the current library to the correct library.
iDevices can only sync to one library at a time.

It might have been reported stolen and remotely disabled. You can try booting into recovery mode and then connecting to iTunes:
