I can only print from one USB port - is this a problem

I am a recent convert from PC to Mac, with a new Intel-based MacBook. I have installed my Epson Stylus D68 Photo and have been successfully printing (eventually!). However, after recently unplugging the printer to move the laptop and then reconnecting the printer I get "communication error" messages and no print. I found that the printer only works when connected to one of the USB ports (even after full reboot etc). Other devices work in the other USB port...
Is there something wrong with the machine or me?

PSE is a one-off purchase. You can buy a retail DVD in an electronics store or as a download from Adobe. You have 2 activations for non-concurrent use and the license is croos-platform for Windows and OSX if you so desire.

Can't print from iMac USB; works from AEBS

I have an Epson CX6600 printer. Normally it's connected to my AEBS so that I can access it from all my computers (2 Mac, 1 Windows) and the printer works fine. However, when it's connected to the AEBS I can't scan directly to the computer, use the Epson Smart Panel, etc - so to do that I hook the printer up directly to the iMac's USB port. Works fine for scanning, but I can't print from the USB port on the iMac. Is there something I need to do to enable printing from a built in USB port on the iMac? I'm stumped! I'm using Panther.

Got lucky and figured it out myself! I had to install the printer as a USB printer; it had been only installed via the AEBS as a Rendezvous printer.

Printing problems Desket 3520 - says i can only print from apps

So frustrating.
Since upgrading to Window 8.1 I have nothing but print problems, despite unistalling and reinstalling. Now when I try to print,when I click on the print icon (that comes up from the swipe side bar) i get a message saying I can only print from apps. So I have been unable to print word docs etc of any kind. The printer works fine from my iphone and ipad and the laptop can see the printer wirelessly and connects to it - BUT IT WONT PRINT!! I've had to resort to emailing the docs to myself to print from my ipad - ridiculous!
WHAT is happening HP? I use an HP laptop and HP printer for a REASON, compatibilty. NOT SO since the update.
Please can someone send me an easy fix for this frustrating problem. 'Ive tried everything and I'm fairly computer savvy.

I am not quite sure why your Windows 8.1 is not printing to your Deskjet 3520 however, I have some ideas to try and find out and hopefully get it printing for you. The printer is working with other devices, which shows us the printer itself is alright.
Run the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results. Please send me the results.
Also try a Clean Boot, restart the PC and try a print again. This will turn off all start up programs running on your PC, in the case there is something running that is blocking the printer from printing, this should bypass it. Also disable your firewall temporarily.
Try printing from two programs afterwards.
Also include how you have the printer connected to the PC (wireless, ethernet, usb).

Can only print from certain programs. Started suddenly.

Everything was working just fine and then suddenly I can only print from InDesign and Word. And when I print from InDesign I can't change any settings in the "print" dialog box or the program freezes and crashes. When I try to print from firefox, photoshop, illustrator among others, it freezes and crashes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the print driver and restarting my computer numerous times and the problem persists. (Unless I am not doing it properly) I go into my printer settings and remove the printer then go back in and reinstall it.
Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated as this is affecting my ability to do my job efficiently. Thanks so much.

Can only connect from one direction

I'm having trouble video confrencing... I tried searching the forums, but I'm having trouble thinking of clever search terms.
I can only connect from one direction with one person. They can invite me to a chat and it works fine every time. However when I invite them it always fails. I can invite other people and it works fine though.
This doesn't seem like a typical router problem, because they can invite me and we videochat just fine.
This has been a problem for most versions of iChat that I can remember, but I'm using 3.1.5 currently.

I would like to assist you today with resolving your printing issue of only being able to print from apps from your Windows 8.1 computer to your HP Officejet Pro 6230 ePrinter.
To ensure that everything is installed and loaded correctly for your printer drivers and software can you please run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This Tool will run on your computer and 'fix printing' issues for you. Should any connection, software or driver conflicts be found than the HP Print and Scan Doctor will identify and resolve those issues.

Can you print from a USB Drive on HO HP printer?

I have an HP LaserJet MFP 276np all-in-one printer. Is it possible to print from a USB Drive inserted in the printer. If so, please give directions.

I read your post and see that you would like to know if you can print from a USB drive, inserted in the printer. I would be happy to provide that information for you.
Your printer supports flash drives. Supported file types from the front port include PDF and RGB JPEG.
The following information is provided by the printer's manual on page 50. LASERJET PRO 200 COLOR MFP.
Walk-up USB printing:
1. Insert the USB drive into the USB port on the front of the product.
2. The USB Flash Drive menu opens. Touch the arrow buttons to scroll through the options.
Print Documents
View and Print Photos
Scan to USB Drive
3. To print a document, touch the Print Documents screen, and then touch the name of the folder on the USB drive where the document is stored. When the summary screen opens, you can touch it to adjust the settings. Touch the
Print button to print the document.
4. To print photos, touch the View and Print Photos screen, and then touch the preview image for each photo that you want to print. Touch the Done button. When the summary screen opens, you can touch it to adjust the settings. Touch the Print button to print the photos.
5. Retrieve the printed job from the output bin, and then remove the USB drive.

Airport Express - Can't print from one of 3 machines

I have an Airport Express connected to a Brother HL-5140. I can print successfully from my MacBook and a Windows XP/SP2 desktop using Bonjour. One laptop won't print - also XP/SP2.
Using a Linksys 54Gbit router with 64 bit WEP - all else appears normal.
Bonjour installed on all 3 computers. It sees the printer - installs with no errors. Firewalls (Windows and PCcillen) turned off. On LapTop, I try to print and the document fails to print. My Mac and Desktop succeed admirably.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Printer Driver, Bonjour and Java SE. Same result.
Any ideas - I am at the end of my feeble resources?

any luck on this? I have pretty much the same situation - hp 5650 printer, airport express, mac mini, macbook (both 10.4.8) and an HP laptop (xp sp2) pc laptop initially printed like a champ - then, stopped - just get the message "This document failed to print".
reinstalled bonjour on the pc, installed airport admin utility on the pc. removed printer drivers, used the appropriate driver, used generic driver - just does not work. Macs are sailing along.

Just one USB port on MacBook Pro 15"

Hi, I just got a MacBook Pro 15" 2.33GHz. I may be silly but I find it has only one USB port! This is killing me because I need at least two USB port to connect my mouse and iPhone. Do I missed something?

Both USB ports are on the left side, right next to each other.
Maybe you have too many things plunged in and you can't see it or something is covering it up. Reminds me of this:

New printer purchase and can't print from classic 9 partitioned side of HD

I recently purchased an Epson RX595 printer. After installation I found that I can only print from the OS X - 10.3.9 (Panther) partitioned side. (This is the original HD so it is not all that big.) I cannot print anything on the Classic 9 partition. My question is can I transfer my Microsoft Office 98 from Classic 9 to the OS X, if so, how do I do that? I tried simply click and drag and it opens from the OS X but the menu bar tells me it is really opening from Classic 9 and therefore will not print. My G4 is the first one Apple made (purchased in 1999). The processor is 450 MHz and I have 640 MB SDRAM. I was told by the support person at Epson that OS X is the "dominant" side of the HD which is fine. I just need to know how to get my applications on Classic 9 to the OS X. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

That printer is only compatible with OS X (Jaguar or later) and the oldest version of Word compatible with OS X is Office 2000.
NeoOffice (freeware/opensource) is a Mac suite of applications compatible with Microsoft Office apps. Download and install it and you should be able to open and print Word .docs on the OS X side of your hard drive.

Also can't print from FF 3.6.12, but it doesn't crash. There's no error message, no job gets queued to the printer. Other applications (including Safari) print without a problem.

How do you connect a usb printer and usb external hard drive to the airport extreme, as it only has one usb port?

I'm thinking about upgrading my old 802.11g router for a new airport extreme. Can it connect to a usb printer and external hard drive at the same time and acutally work. It only has one usb port on the back.

To add multiple USB printers and/or HDDs, you just first need to connect a USB hub (powered prefereably) to the AirPort's USB port, and then, add the USB devices to the hub.

You need to turn on Printer Sharing on both the PC and OS X. I can't help you on Vista but in OS X it's System Preferences - Sharing - check the Printer Sharing box.

Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.

I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!
