I can't add or remove bookmarks from the bookmarks menu or bookmarks bar and I've completely removed and reinstalled Firefox.

I am not able to add or remove bookmarks. The bookmarks library is empty. I can't restore to any back up bookmarks. I restarted in safe mode. No bookmarks. I reset Firefox. No bookmarks. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. No bookmarks. I did a Revo Uninstall and cleared the registry. No bookmarks. I deleted the localstore.rdf. No bookmarks. This is kinda a deal breaker for me. I might have to go to Chrome or IE.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • Can I remove items from the Services menu?

I think the subject line says it all: can I remove items from the Services menu? I have a number of items in the Services menu that I never use and I would like to make the menu shorter to make it easier to access the items that I do use.

There are a couple of things you could try. There's an application called Service Scrubber that is supposed to do this. But the web page says it's for 10.4, though it says it might work on 10.3
Alternatively, you can edit the Info.plist or Info-macos.plist file in each application bundle to remove its service from the Services menu. This post at Mac OS X Hints has a pretty detailed description of how to do it. I tried this on my iMac running 10.3.9 and it worked just fine.
Don't know about the Service Scrubber app, but if you edit the plist files, you'll need to log out and log back in before the changes take effect.
Also, if you decide to edit the files by hand, I'd suggest just renaming NSServices by adding an "x" to the front or something, rather than deleting the item completely. That makes the changes easier to reverse.

  • Remove items from the Tools menu in the Service Manager console

    Hi.
I know I have see a post regarding this before, but just wanted to put it out these once again.  I'd like to remove items from the Tools menu in the Service Manager console - specifically My Notifications and Create Change Request.  This is because
the former allows a user to create notification subscriptions in incorrect Management Packs, and the latter because we are not using Change Management yet.  Does anyone have any information on how to achieve this?
    Cheers

  • Remove Twitter from the share menu.

How do I remove twitter from the share menu in Safari 6?
I have no interest in it being there at all.

You should let Apple know what you think:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Perhaps there might be such an option in the future.  For now, I think Apple wants everyone to see that it's there.
For those that use Twitter it is acutally a cool feature.  Not so much, I guess, for people that don't.

  • Adding/Removing items from the main menu

I don't know why my iPod won't let me add or remove items from my main menu.
    I go
Settings > Main Menu > (check what I want on the main menu) > Reset Main Menu > Reset
When I go out to the main menu again, nothing has changed.
Anyone else having this problem? Thank you for help!

If you do a reset then you're resetting it to default. If you want to change anything ya just change it to on/and or off, then hit the menu button to go back. Don't go all the way to reset. Hope this helps.

  • Remove "Network" from the "Go" menu in Finder

    Hi folks,
I'm scratching my head with this one, is there any way I can remove this item from the drop down menu via MCX? I don't want my users browsing the network at all.
I've managed to remove Networks from the Finder window sidebar and I've removed Connect to Server from the same Go menu.
Also, can anybody point me in the right direction to create a default network view!? I understood (or thought I did) this under Tiger but I can't seem to find any information about it in LEopard.
    Many thanks in advance!

This one might be a bit risky, and it'll require custom image deployment, but it should work: Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app, right click and choose Show Package Contents.
Open /Contents/Resources/English.lproj and you'll find a nib file called Menus.nib. Make a copy and open it up in Interface Builder (included in Xcode).
You'll see the MenuBar window in Interface Builder, with the Finder's Menu Bar represented; click Go, click the Network option, and press the Delete key. Save, and move the Menus.nib file to the client system (preferably in Target Disk Mode, since this is pretty invasive). Start up, and look at your Go menu! I've just tested this on a local test machine, and it worked without a hitch. May need to repeat the steps after updating, though, or revert the .nib file to the backup before the update, and replace it after. Hope this helps!

  • You can't access your own content from the top menu anymore?

Apple made a monumental FAIL decision for me regarding the new Apple TV.
They really want to force feed their iTunes store to us so badly that they have now stripped all of your own content from the main menu.
No longer can you go to TV Shows and watch... well, YOUR TV shows. Apple buried all of your personal content a couple of menus deep. In fact, the entire Music category is Now gone! Unbelievable!
And I can't use album covers for a screen saver anymore? That was a great feature! i guess they don't want music associated with a TV device. Very bad decision in my opinion.
This unit is a step BACK, not forward.
Am is missing something? is there a way to get this content back to the front so I can easily access my stuff?

agreed. the appletv is now an itunes store device (with your own content as a side issue).

  • Removing items from the Apple Menu

Using Leopard in a School the pupils are always messing up the dock. I have locked system preferences but they are still able to mess with dock settings by going to dock off of the apple menu. Is it possible to remove this item from the Apple menu or to make it inactive
    Thanks

I don't think so. Have you tried checking in 'Parental Controls' section? If there's nothing there you might need a third party software solution. You could always try to contact the Mac Genius bar too, they might know of a 'trick' to remove it.

  • Can I make a bootable DVD from the Mavericks download. I would like to wipe my iMac and start over.

Can I make a bootable DVD from the app store download of Mavericks. I wish to wipe my iMac clean and start over
    thanks in anticipation

Well you can make a bootable dvd this way:
After downloading the Install OS X Mavericks.app file from the Mac App Store, run these 12 commands in Terminal to create a Mavericks.iso file and then burn it to a dual layer DVD with Disk Utility. You may then boot up from it by holding the option key down and then install mavericks. This will not install a recovery partition. To do that, uncompress and run the script file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13872235/Musings/Recovery%20Partition%20Crea tor%203.7.zip
    hdiutil attach /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg -noverify -nobrowse -mountpoint /Volumes/install_app
    hdiutil convert /Volumes/install_app/BaseSystem.dmg -format UDSP -o /tmp/Mavericks
    hdiutil resize -size 8g /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage
hdiutil attach /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage -noverify -nobrowse -mountpoint /Volumes/install_build
    rm /Volumes/install_build/System/Installation/Packages
    cp -rp /Volumes/install_app/Packages /Volumes/install_build/System/Installation/
    hdiutil detach /Volumes/install_app
    hdiutil detach /Volumes/install_build
    hdiutil resize -size `hdiutil resize -limits /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage | tail -n 1 | awk '{ print $1 }'`b /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage
    hdiutil convert /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage -format UDTO -o /tmp/Mavericks
    rm /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage
    mv /tmp/Mavericks.cdr ~/Desktop/Mavericks.iso

  • How Do I Remove  Scanner from the Import Menu

The printer has already been uninstalled from the computer and I do not see it listed in the Device Manager. Is there a configuration file somewere in the Photoshop application or program folders that I can edit to remove an old non-existent scanner from the import list?
    Thank you

    amm09 wrote:
Unfortunately that removed all of the scanners and not just the old one. Is there any way to isolate the old scanner and remove it without removing my current scanner?
Oh, I didn't realise you had several. There is a PSP in the preferences settings folder called Menu Customization which contains scanner names it but I would not recommend messing with it!
My recommendation in such circumstances is to bypass PS and use the scanners own software or the Vuescan standalone program.

  • HT4623 how do you remove podcasts from the iPhone menu?

I subscribed to a podcast on the iPhone, (from the iPhone itself) but now can't seem to remove it.  Any ideas?  There doesn't seem to be a way
to unsubscribe from the podcasts on the iPhone or from iTunes.
I have all the latest software.
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks - but there are no episodes of the podcast itself.  It is the tile from the store that is clogging up space.  The podcasts themselves can be deleted - that's easy - but the subscription tile cannot - even though I am not subscribed anymore.
The podcasts are not on my syncing computer's iTunes either, so can't be removed that way either.

  • Removing items from the user menu

When users log in, they get a menu in the upper right corner of the ribbon that has their user name on it; the welcome menu. This menu has some items on it that I would like to remove because we have disabled "My sites" and because they allow unwanted
    actions..
    The buttons are:
    My Site
    My Profile
    Personalize this Page
I managed to find the template welcome.ascx for the welcome menu in \14\TEMPLATE\CONTROLTEMPLATES\ and was able to hide the "Personalize this Page" item by adding visible="false" to the menu item template. What I can't find is the menu
item template for the My Site items. I'm not sure if those items are controlled by the menu template. I think they are controlled by turning off my sites in central admin. I say this because when I click on both menu items, I get a page not found error. I
think the files for those pages were removed rather than disabling my sites.  Can someone confirm?

I would not recommend modifying the pages on the server directly. Any future CU or ServicePack could overwrite those changes. If you have backup of those please, you may refer it back.
And to hide those button, goto User Profile Service Application in Central Admin. You will find Manage User Permissions. There you can uncheck the following to disable the respective buttons
Uncheck Use Personal Features to hide My Profile
Uncheck Create Personal Site to hide My Site
Uncheck Use Social Features to disable Tagging, Note Board

  • Can I run a shell script from the services menu?, part II

    Remember this?
    It is now possible.

Doesn't look like there is a direct way to do it.
The services are all Bundles, which is easy
enough to fake -- just copy one from /Library/Services
to ~/Services and modify the plist. Put your shell
script in Contents/MacOS/ and identify it in the
plist under CFBundleExecutable and hope for the
    best
Where it gets sticky is CFBundlePackageType (APPL
for Application, FMWK for FrameWork, BNDL for
'loadable bundle', whatever that is] and NSServices.
CFBundlePackageType should pose no problem if Services
use the OS loader and handles file magic [and '#!' of
    course].
NSServices specifies a named port that the app
listens on, the data type it receives, and so forth.
This looks a bit harder to fake. I'd bet Applescript
has the functionality, and there may be some
command-line hooks to backend that, or it may be
possible to netcat your way through it.
    But it doesn't look trivial
    Property List Key Reference
Anyways, tried it with a quick script that echoes to a
file, and haven't figured out how to refresh the
Services menu to get it to appear. Probably have
to NetInfo it or something ridiculous; doesn't appear
    to watch the FS.

  • Does anyone know how to remove Twitter from the Settings menu?

I was hoping somebody found a way to get rid of it. If not, I assume that it is built into the OS. Thanks for any help.

It is built-in to the OS.
    See: http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#twitter
You can't remove it. You're under no obligation to use it if you don't want to - just ignore it.
