I can't burn a widescreen DVD

In Pr 5.5 I can define what I want via File> export > media and then choosing "format" : mpeg2dvd, and a "preset" of "ntsc widescreen H Q". and then specify 1.2 pixel aspect ratio. This creates an.M2V file (which I can't find ). How can I burn a dvd from this?
If I try to burn a dvd in Encore, it disregards the above info and all it lets me do is burn a 4x3 dvd which distorts (squishes) my" widescreen" 1920x1080 footage which is not attractive.

-- I found the .m2v file.but there is also an audio file and an .xmp file. do I open all of them in encore? How would anyone know to do that ?
-- the hd2sd software looks interesting but a lot of work. Is the video significantly sharper with this method?

Can I burn to mini-DVD discs on my iBook G4? I have a superdrive and I have burned the project succesfully on a regular DVD but the person that I am burning it for was told it had to be turned in on a mini-DVD.
Not knowing if the mini would be compatiable or possibly get stuck I was afraid to try it without some comformation that it has been done by someone else before. It is a work computer.
I tried to burn it on my sons PC and on my Mom's PC but neither worked. Neither acknowledges the mini-DVD.

miniDVD can have two meanings:
* these %$§*? DVDcamcorders record on miniDVD (small diameter, but mainly DVD)
* and you are able to burn a DVDcontent (muxxed mp2 stream) onto a CD-R - that is also called miniDVD.... I was able to fit 10min onto such, but my DVDstandalone doesn't accept such disks....
my guess, the recipient of your project tries to use his DVDcamcorder as a DVDplayer.... wow....... you get "grown up" DVDplayers for 39$.....
many external burners accept these miniDVD-r... maybe, someone can borrow you such? and, my guess, iDVD doesn't accept them, you need to use Toast (as I did for my dvd-cd-r experiment)

What are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to burn to disk via the iPhoto Share ➙ Burn menu? That produces a mini library on the disk that can be used only by a Mac running iPhoto.
If you want to burn just some image files to a data CD/DVD disk then follow Larry's recommended workflow.
What disk type and manufacturer are your using? What system and iPhoto version are you running? Have you run the OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test? When did the burning proiblem begin? If you can't burn a disk from the Finder then it's a hardware or system problem and not an iPhoto one.

Can't burn Dual Layer DVD-R on new Mac Pro?
I have a new Mac Pro with Pioneer DVD burner built in. I've since found out that it only burns Dual Layer +R type, and not the -R type.
My replication company need a Dual Layer -R type DVD as they can't get a glass-master off the +R type Dual Layer discs.
Can anyone recommend/suggest a cheap way of being able to either master off a DVD to Dual Layer -R disc, or perhaps copy my Dual Layer +R to a Dual Layer -R ?

Everything I have ever read about the DVD-R DL discs says the layer break can't be chosen by the author. It is not a DVDSP issue; it is an issue with the media.
This is actually listed in the DVDSP 4.1 Late Breaking News on page 15:
"Using DVD-R Dual-Layer Media
If your system contains a DVD drive that can write to the new DVD-R dual-layer media, you can burn your DVD project to it with DVD Studio Pro. However, there are several issues:
Since there is no current way for DVD Studio Pro to identify DVD-R dual-layer media as having two layers, burning a dual-layer project to it results in a warning appearing telling you that the DVD media may have insufficient room to hold the project. This message is based on the assumption that the disc is single layer. Both layers of the disc will be written to as needed, however, when you click Continue.
If you are burning a dual-layer project, the break point you set will not affect where the layer break actually occurs. Instead, the first layer is written to until filled, at which point the drive switches to writing to the second layer.
The switch between layers is a seamless layer change not supported by some DVD players, which may stop playing the disc when the switch point is reached.
Important: Do not use DVD-R dual-layer media unless these issues do not impact your project.
You can use DVD+R double-layer media for burning your dual-layer projects. With DVD+R double-layer media, DVD Studio Pro places the layer break point and sets the switch point to be nonseamless as specified in your project."

This is called sessions, but it is not recommended and has been largely abandoned by software developers. This was a good thing in the late 1990’s, when opticals discs were quite expensive, and file size quite low.
applications which reportedly may do this are

- others, I do not remember which ones, try SimpyBurns, Burn, Dragon Burn and LiquidCD, you will find all in macupdate.com, test which ones suit you.
Otherwise, I do not recommend you such time consuming and inefficient solutions, optical drives are being replaces by more capacitive, cheaper and more practical solutions, like external disks. But, if you insist, you will find what you are looking for.

There is no way to do it in iTunes that I know of - you can only burn CDs there. You do need other software to burn to a music DVD.

Can you burn an AVCHD DVD using Premiere Pro 4.1?

Alright I've been hunting the forums and net for a few hours on this one question.
I import my AVCHD video files using Sony Picture Motion Browser for the HDR SR-12 using the full HD setting (1920x1080i) I then pull these into Premiere 4.2.1 and have created an edit, my question is, it possible to output to an AVCHD DVD i.e. a standard DVD-R with the AVCHD edit on it from Premiere/Encore?
It's easy to burn clips straight to AVCHD DVD using Sony PMB, but not an edited file.
I realize there are no menus possible if you do it this way, but I have an AVCHD capable DVD deck and an HD Capable screen and would really like to see how this looks. Anybody know any tricks or workarounds for this? It seems that this would be sadly lacking if it was not possible or simply an effort to force one to adapt the entire workflow to Blu-Ray for HD content which I am not prepared to do.
I am assuming that if you could export the same file type that came in (i.e. AVCHD .mts files) that you could then have Sony PMB burn it to AVCHD DVD but I haven't figured out how to export it as such as there is only Blu-Ray output options.
Any help, tips or tricks would be appreciated!!!!

Answering myself here for the benefit of anyone else trying to solve this problem.
I have been pulling my hair out trying to solve this problem for the last 48 hours of utilizing AVCHD footage at AVCHD quality. I finally did find somewhat of a work around, but it requires Adobe PP CS4.2.
There is a plug-in here:

Which will actually output your edit as an AVCHD file. You can then burn this straight to an AVCHD using Nero 9 and keep the highquality level of your clips and not need Blu-Ray. The DVD player will need to be AVCHD capable, but I just bought one of those for $40 as compared to the $200+ of most Blu-Ray players.
Or if you want to be really sneaky, you can transfer it back onto your camera and play it straight to your TV using the HDMI cable.
Hope that helps anyone stuck with the same problem.

I can't burn a working DVD from an ISO

I'm running CS6 and burning a simple DVD with two timelines and one menu. Should be easy.
When I burn a DVD, it works just fine.
But I want to make an ISO so someone else can burn the DVD for themselves. The DVD burns just fine. Its when I go to play it in a DVD player that I run into problems. It doesn't play. Error. "The Supported Disc Isn't Available" or some nonesense.
Is this an Adobe problem? Or an Apple problem?

The burner and discs aren't really an issue because I've used a number of discs and a number of burners to the same result.

On many of the older Optical Drives they would only burn at 1X and 2X.
That being said they were also very particular as to the Media that was used in them. Only the specified speed media worked well unless you checked the media you purchased carefully they were unreliable and would give you errors or spit the media out.
Recently many of the Media Manufactures have been made aware of this problem and started making media that is of much better Quality.
I also have an older burner in my Powerbook, I have found that Maxell 16X DVD-R media in the individual jewel cases will burn at 1X through and including 16X.
You must read the packaging on this media. Not all 16X media will burn at the slower speeds. This media will burn at the highest speed your drive will allow.

I cant burn photos to a DVD+RW. I'm using Verbatim DVD+RW discs. When I try to burn the photos I get the message "please insert a writable/recordable disc ". I can burn the pics onto a CD but I want to make DVD's too !

Can you play DVD movies on the drive? I ask because it is not uncommon for one feature on multifunction drives (like a CD-DVD drive) to stop functioning. There are actually multiple lasers in there for the separate functions. In other words the CD part can work fine but the DVD part go bad.
Is this an external DVD burner or the one built into the laptop?

Can't burn 5GB to DVD DL - too big?!

I want to burn a DL DVD with around 5 GB of data, computer says "no", the DVD doesn't have enough free space.
I trying to make a backup copy of a Mac OS X Server install disc (for legitimate reasons btw). I have already copied the install DVD to a portable hard drive and that works as a startup drive and will reinstall the OS if required. Now I want to burn a DVD and free up the hard drive. I'm creating a new disc image using Disk Utility - following instructions found in this forum. However on attempting to burn the disc image to the DVD I get an error that the inserted DVD doesn't have enough free space.
The disc image is just over 5GB and a DL DVD has over 8GB of capacity. So that can't be right...
I haven't used DL DVDs before so maybe I'm missing something?
The DVDs are Verbatim 8x DVD+R DL which I bought from a reputable shop. I've tried with the same result on two Macs, a MacBook and a MacBook Pro using 10.5.8 and 10.6.4
Should this be working for me? Or do I need a different application such as Toast?

Are you sure that it says that the DVD doesn't have enough free space and not the hard drive?
This should work, but seeing as it has failed on 3 different Macs I'd be tempted to try another brand of blank disks.

10.6.1 - Can't Burn MS-DOS Dvd

I am having a problem trying to create MS-DOS DVD data disks. I create a MS-DOS disk image with Disk Utility. Disk Utility shows it as a MS-DOS (Fat) 4.7GB. I burn it from Finder and in the Burn Dialog, it states that "This disk can be used on Macintosh and Windows" computers. I click Okay/Burn, but the resulting DVD is in Mac OS Extended format.
This was working fine in 10.6. Has anybody successfully created a MS-DOS (Fat) DVD under 10.6.1?
I verified the image with Disk Utility:
Verifying volume “LOOF_VIGNES”

Malcolm - I accidently started this question on an old (answered)thread, so this thread is the correct one for replies....
I have tried both burning from Disk Utility and from the MS-DOS image on the disk top. In the latter case, I right click the MS_DOS image and select Burn.
All this was working last week under 10.6, but I upgraded and now I can't burn a MS-DOS DVD data disk of files.
I tried dragging the files directly to a new blank DVD, but it also get burnt as a Mac OS Extended disk and my Windows PCs can't read it? It does not seem to have the Hybrid format you mentioned.

I've seen many discussions on subject, but has it ever been resolved? prior versions seemed to work fine, all I ever get now is the "Finishing Burn" dialog.
Does iPhoto 6 resolve this?

Can't burn at 8x DVD-R with superdrive on new dual core G5

I just recently bought a dual Power Mac G5. It's a great computer but the problem I'm having is that my superdrive won't burn DVD-R faster than 4x. I'm using Toast 6.1.1 and TDK discs. I did a search and it seems that others are having similar issues, so I wanted to know if Apple is doing something about this or if there currently is a fix?
I really don't like the idea of wasting money in buying several different DVD brands and finding the one that burns at 8x. The TDKs burn perfectly at 8x on my dad's PC and I've never really had problems with TDKs before so I'm thinking it's an issue with the superdrive.
Anyone else having problems burning at 8x with the new superdrives? I feel a little ripped off because I paid for an 16x burner. I haven't even tried 16x because I'm trying to finish off my stack of 8x DVDs, but since it can't burn at 8x I'm not getting my hopes up.

Yes, I refuse to buy Apple's DVD because it cost so much. Even if it worked on my computer, it wouldn't be worth the price to use 8x
FYI Apple has been using Maxell as the manufacture for all their DVDs for some time. You get the exact same disc with the Maxell Gold Metal label, made in Japan. The Gold Metal labels can be manufactured in either Japan or Tiawan (which are Ridata). Check the UPC code. It clearly states the country.
I have had fantastic results with the Ridata (Taiwan) ones and I use them exclusively for projects going out to customers. I have had zero returns on them.
I just recently saw 8x Ridata discs on for $19 CDN for a pack of 50, so they are considerably cheaper than the Apple branded discs. Maxells I have gotten for as little as $8 CDN for a pack of 25.
One other thing, I seem to remember (can't remember where or when) that you need Toast 7 on the G5 for proper functioning. I did not see anyone say they were using Toast 7, just 6.1.1. I know I had a lot of problems before upgrading to v7. The upgrade may make the difference. I checked the Roxio forums, and could find nothing there. If you are lucky, they may give some assistance if you have registered your copy.

Can't burn to Dynex DVD-DL

I can burn CDs just find with my new Alum Macbook. But when I try to burn ISOs to brand new Dynex-DLs the disk verification fails every time and the disks don't work.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a optical driver error? Or do Dynex disks just not work in Macbooks?

I'm experiencing verification errors when burning to Verbatim DVD-R's. It's a 50/50 occurence. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Not sure about Dual layer discs though. I'm also having some trouble with DVD+RW's where the disc icon stays mounted on the desktop when I eject the dvd using the eject button on the keyboard. All in all, my dvd burning experience has been spotty at best.
