I can't find ios partition after installation of Windows 7 via boot camp. can someone help please?

I installed Windows 7 via boot camp and now I can't find my Mac partition. My commuter boots up to a blank gray screen and after several minutes the Windows partition starts. I don't know what to do. Can someone help me?

In Windows, go to Control Panel -> System. Do you see a Boot Camp option? If you do not, please download BC drivers as appropriate for you specific Mac year/model System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support
and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers.
The other option is to use

    Ok Great,
Will installing Boot Camp drivers allow me to both read and write to the OS X Volume from windows?
This is important as if it will it means i can make the windows partition a lot smaller and keep all my files on the OS X partition which would be preferable.

No, OSX will be read only (from Windows) and vice versa. (you can install 3rd party utilities on either or both partitions, to make read/write possible)

  • HT5446 If I buy a mac mini with a fusion drive and add windows using boot camp, can I make the SSD function be dedicated to the windows partition?

If I buy a mac mini with a fusion drive and add windows using boot camp, can I make the SSD function be dedicated to the windows partition?

Additional information from Linc's post. Basically, only one additional partition can be added to a Fusion Drive and it resides on the HDD.
Do computers that come with a Fusion Drive support Boot Camp?
Yes. Use the Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition and install Boot Camp. The Windows partition will exist on the hard disk drive, not the Flash drive, and is not part of Fusion Drive Logical Volume Group. 3TB Fusion Drive configurations need to update to OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later to install Windows 8. See iMac (27-inch, Late 2012): Boot Camp alert with 3T hard drive for more information.

  • Uninstalling Windows via Boot Camp, still partitioning after roughly 1 hour

    Hi,
This is my first post, but I'm a long time searcher. I usually find what I'm looking for, but in this case I thought best to ask. I hope I follow the correct etiquette!
So today I thought I would have a go at installing Windows XP via Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro. To cut a long story short, I completely messed it up because I (stupidly) read SP1 instead of SP2 on the CD and essentially it didn't install anything from the boot CD's -- as you would expect.
So after a quick panic I got back running in OS, and have now just tried to uninstall windows using Boot Camp, following the correct instructions, and after around an hour now it's status is still reading: Partitioning disk.....
Is this to be expected, or is this wrong? Initially I only partitioned 32Gb for Windows as I didn't really want to do anything with it.
I have done a few searches and got some mixed answers - ranging from it should be instantaneous, to it could take an hour.
    What should I do next?
    Thanks in advance.

Well......First, I should say that although I've used Macs for many years I'm not an expert by any means. So, take my advice with caution.
In some ways it seems like, without a full backup, you are sort of between a rock and a hard place =-( I'm not sure what will happen if you force quit the Boot Camp repartitioning. It might be o.k. and it might bugger up your hard drive and require you to reinstall everything. I'm not sure what effect "ejecting" the Windows partition would have.
I guess at some point you're just going to have to do something. When I get to a point where I am in a situation like you are I search the Internet for as much information as I can get. If I can't find a specific answer to my problem at least I usually get some idea of what to try. Then I just go ahead and start trying things. When you get into that situation it is much less stressful if you have a complete backup. (It's really worth spending the money to buy an external hard drive and start using Time Machine to make a backup.)
I know that my answer is not much help. Sorry about that. Maybe someone else will chime in with some more useful information. If they don't I guess that you're just going to have to take a plunge =-(

  • I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

    Please can you help!
I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

Starting a couple of days ago my mouse and keyboard stopped working suddenly.
How are they connected?   In my case they are wireless and their receiver is plugged into my USB hub.  After an update I found the OS inexplicably not recognizing my USB hub and hence any devices which were plugged into it.  My fix was to
plug the receiver into a different USB port (so I could use the mouse and keyboard; otherwise I would have had to use the OSK via Touch or pen.)  Once I had normal access into my machine again I used Device Manager to remove all USB controller and
hubs (including hidden ones) and I then shut down, disconnected all USB devices and powered back up, this time using only Touch to get going.  Once the OS had settled down I started plugging stuff back in the way that I wanted it to be recognized.
If I didn't have Touch I would have had to have left the wireless receiver plugged in both places which I assume would be OK.  I have no idea why updates have such a catastrophic effect for USB devices.

  • New MBP users using XP via Boot Camp - Can you install Open Type Fonts?

Have any of the new MacBook Pro owners that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
After having troubleshooted with Adobe and Microsoft, and after having reinstalled Windows over 6 times on two different new MacBook Pros, I am starting to believe that this issue affects all new MacBook Pros.
For some points, could someone please try to install an Open Type Font in Windows XP, and let me know if you are successful?
    Thank you!

I had the exact same problem and *finally solved it*. I am running Windows XP Professional on a new MacBook Pro via BootCamp as well. Although its totally contradictory to logic, you need to use True Type fonts. I understand, you open your fonts folder and all the standard fonts are Open Type. We had purchased a font family that I had running on my Dell which used the exact same operating system. It was Open Type and it worked fine. I got a new MacBook Pro and was transfering everything over, including all of my fonts. The fonts that we purchased as or had converted to Open Type for me (the only windows guy working on graphics related stuff) were not loading on the new machine (MacBook Pro) even though they worked fine on the old (Dell). When I tried to install them, I kept getting an error that read something like "unable to install font. it may be corrupt, contact font vendor." I spent about a week with the font vendor trying to figure it out. no luck. One day I tried install a folder full of other fonts, mixed versions of True Type and Open Type, and all of the True Type installed and the Open Type did not. I got my hands on a True Type version of the font I was struggling with and now it works fine.
It makes no sense. Every person who seemingly knows way more about this type of stuff seems to think that this is not possible, and that I'm not smart enough to understand what I did. They will tell you that there is nothing different about running windows on a Mac than on a PC, in fact it should run better on a Mac, blah blah blah (not really true in actual practice as far as my experiences go). But this worked for me and I have no problems with it anymore. Good luck.

  • Boot Camp users using XP via Boot Camp, Can you install Open Type Fonts? 2

I have written this post as a continuation of the following archived thread, which has never been solved.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1778497&start=0&tstart=0
Have any of the Boot Camp 3.0 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
From the many complaints and troubleshooting in my original thread, we know that this is definitely an issue with Boot Camp, which prevents users from installing Open Type Fonts, specifically from Adobe.
Has anyone else experienced this with Boot Camp 3.0?
    Thanks!

The fix for this can be found here:
    http://www.thomasphinney.com/2008/12/no-font-instal/
It's a simple registry edit. It resolved the issue for us on both nVidia and ATI iMacs running XP in Bootcamp.
    Here's the relevant excerpt:
+Nvidia says the problem occurs on Windows XP only, and Vista users are unaffected, but at least one Vista user has reported they had this problem and the fix resolved it. It affects multiple NVidia cards, and some (unspecified) ATI cards. The fix, posted by David Ingraham in a horribly lengthy thread on the Adobe User Forums, and in a post by “PixelNinja” on the NVidia forums is this:+
+— start of email from HP —Good news. Nvidia has identified the problem and provided a fix. The way it was explained to me, Windows expects the device driver to be a certain size (maximum). In this case, the nvidia driver is slightly larger than expected. A simply registry entry will resolve the issue in WinXP (the issue doesn’t occur in Vista). To resolve the problem, do the following:+
    +Open the registry editor (regedit)+
    +Navigate to+
    +HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management+
+Add a new REG_DWORD entry called SessionImageSize with a value (decimal) of 20+
    Reboot
+The Type 1 fonts should now open/install without any problems.+

    Thank you very much!

Experiencing the same from a fresh install of Windows XP on Boot Camp 2.1.
Tried 2 different scenarios. Installed Windows XP, Boot Camp Drivers, Open Type Fonts. Received an not a valid font file when trying to install. Installed Windows XP and then the Open Type Fonts. All fonts registered and accessed by the operating system without the Boot Camp Drivers. Installed the Boot Camp Drivers and checked the fonts, received error messages accessing fonts.
Pretty sure its the Boot Camp Drivers that are causing the problems with Windows and the fonts. Hopefully there is an updat to address this issue.

    Did you look in

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (64 Bit)
and then look for the Photoshop.exe
Usually after installation it should be listed somewhere near the top on the All Programs menu.

I don't use these either ... but this does sound like a very plausible cause of this error.  Are you sure you aren't using either?
In any case, it's easy enough to add them back and see if that solves this.  Boot into live media, chroot, add back the modules to mkinitcpio.conf and rebuild the initramfs.  If nothing else this would verify that these are not the problem.

  • Can't find live type after installation

I reinstalled FCP and components and now I can't find Live type anywhere in the computer. Even I tried to reinstall the live type data and at the end of installation a message says "intallation was succesfull". What can I do to recover it?
    Thanks in advance.

What have you done to find it? Spotlight will find LiveType. The installer is a very simple application, not very bright. If it says it installed it, it's there someplace. Search for recent creation dates and huge folders.
