  • How come I can't get any sound out of my speakers

I  have a mid 2011 iMac...can't get sound to come out of the speakers... It was working earlier today... I checked to make sure everything was connected and not muted... Thank you in advance for any help out there...
    Shane

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the appropriate method.
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Make sure that no box is checked under “Mute”.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".
7.Launch iTunes and play a song through headphone and adjust the volume
       in  the Mini player.

  • Hey i have a ipod touch and i can t get any sound out of my head phones. The lil bit i can get is scratchy and very very low??

I have a ipod touch and i can only get a very lil bit of sound and its scrachy souding out of my head phones... sounds good if you dont use head phones??? Can anybody help??

Your MacBook Pro doesn't have HDMI output... it's DVI. For sound, you will need to use the headphone out/optical digital audio out port to the TV/stereo. As far as video goes, I'm confused as to what cable you're using but at one point you're converting DVI to HDMI.

  • I can't get any sound out of my iMac unless I am wearing headphones.  Is there a way to fix this?

When I turned on my computer this morning I noticed that I didn't hear the chime, but realized that my son had left his earphones plugged in.  When I unplugged them, the computer still didn't have any sound.  When I plugged the earphones back in I could hear sound but only in my headphones.    We stream Netflix/Hulu videos so we are in need of help.  Has anyone else had this problem?  If so, is there a solution?

Sounds like either the internal speaker volume is muted or the micro switch inside the headphone jack is stuck and the computer thinks something is still plugged in.
    1. Check the sound preferences and see if you can select and/or unmute the internal speakers?
    2. If not, try plugging in gently jiggling and then unplugging the headphones to see if you can unstick the micro switch?
    3. If not, contact your local AASP and make a service appointment.

  • NO SOUND! I can't get any sound out of logic express....

Very recently, sound stopped coming out of my Logic Express.
There is a level (on the master) going out, and the master volume of the program is up, but nothing is coming through the speakers!
All other sounds are coming out (itunes etc), just not logic. Has previously been working fine!
I must have clicked something by accident, any suggestions please?!?
    Alex

The first time I synced with the ipad I did go through "restore" from iTunes. The other options on the screen were "restore from iCloud" and "new ipad".
How do I do a restore now? With the ipad attached? Everytime I connect and disconnect the ipad to the cable, even with reboot, it takes me back to the same grey iPad configuration screen. Do I need to do a hard reset?

  • Apart from the phone function, I can't get any sound out of my iPhone, i.e. music, youtube movies etc. is this a failing phone or a settings problem. I and others all failed to find a relevant setting.

    What photo?????????.

It's atrocious... And they don't give a **** at all. I'm serious considering going with a different carrier after nine years. These guys will tell you anything just to lock you in your contract for another two years. They never had the number of units upfront to be selling us all in a pre order, that's already been reported. And they continue to jostle dates around and blame it all on Apples supply. The ironic part of the excuse is that they cannot take stock of what they have real time and then make those phones available on time and begin the back order process per the demand in real time either. As if to say " Appke will be getting is more they promised", when they should be saying " we're sold out and were not sure when our supplier is going to send the next shipment to fulfill orders" but you hear mon of that from these scumbags. They just want you to take a month late "pre order" and then say that it's all apples fault. Suggestion Verizon : DONT ******* SELL PHONES YOU DONT PHYSICALLY HAVE TO SELL IN A PRE ORDER

  • I can not get any sounds out of my Macbook Air

    - Basically because it seems like there are no internal speakers when I search in 'sounds'. Anyone, please?

Sounds like either the internal speaker volume is muted or the micro switch inside the headphone jack is stuck and the computer thinks something is still plugged in.
    1. Check the sound preferences and see if you can select and/or unmute the internal speakers?

  • I can't get any sound from ITunes. The computer's internal speakers are fine (they play utube sound, for example). And the sound bar on itunes is all the way to the right. Still no sound from the music library. Any insights?

I can't get any sound from my ITunes library. The IMac is set to internal speakers, the volume bar on ITunes itself is all the way to the right, there seems to be no problem with the speakers themselves (they play sound from internet videos, for example), but I can't play music from the ITunes library on the IMac. Please help!

Is it possible that you have iTunes set to send audio through AirPlay to an AirPort Express, Apple TV, or other AirPlay device (which is itself not turned up so you can hear it)?

  • I can't get any sounds from my ipod, only through earphones

I can't get any sounds from my itouch. I can only hear through my headphones. I completely reset my itouch and still nothing

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem. I do not know what you meant by "completely reset my itouch".
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.

  • Trouble getting any sound out of new Mac Pro

I recently bought a new Mac Pro and I've been having trouble getting any sound out of the internal speaker. I believe it thinks that there are always headphones plugged in even when there aren't. I don't get a startup sound and it doesn't make the "volume change quack" when I change the volume. The choices under the Sound panel for Output are: "Headphones", "Line Out", and "Digital Out" even if no headphones are plugged in. Sometimes I can get sound out of the computer if I jiggle around a headphone plug in the jack but as soon as I reboot or the machine wakes up from sleep the sound goes away.
I'm guessing that it's probably a bad headphone jack but before I inevitably have to lug the 60 pound machine to the Genius Bar I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has had similar issues and if there might be a quick fix to do myself.
Thanks for any tips or help.

Thank you but that unfortunately did not fix it. I'm sure I need to take it in.

  • I can t get any sound notication sounds on my ipad 2 such as new email etc

I can t get any sound notication sounds on my ipad 2 such as new email etc

You need to turn off the mute.  The side switch is the key.  Depending on your settings, it may affect the mute or it may affect the rotation lock.  This support article from Apple provides detail.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
In case you're wondering, here is the history.  Originally, the mechanical switch affected only the rotation lock and the mute was a software switch elsewhere.  In IOS-3, it was changed to be the mute switch and the rotation lock became a software switch.  This was done to ensure consistency among IOS devices.  Unfortunately, a large quantity of users complained loudly, alleging that they turned the rotation lock on and off several times every hour and the convenience of the mechanical switch is essential.  In IOS-4, Apple bowed to the whiners and made the switch function selectable and now we're stuck with a mess.
