I can't open pdf files even though adobe reader is downloaded.

I can't open pdf files even though adobe reader X1 is downloaded.

May seem like an obvious question but, did you install it after you downloaded it?
If so, how are you trying to open these files and what happens when you try?

  • 2 medical softwares often can't open pdf, just after the adobe reader install but IExplorer succeded

    Hello,
We have two softwares ( medical application) which open pdf via adobe reader XI.
Theses softwares often can't open pdf, just after the adobe reader install( using adobeArCleaner+Customisation Wizard XI).
At this point Internet Explorer is ok to open pdf with adobe reader...
We have to launch manually adobe reader once on the computer to make the two applications to manage openning pdf
Launching adobe reader seems to finish the installation...
Did the editors have to put an "option" when they open pdf ( to act like Internet Explorer...) ?
    Thanks

I am very glad to have a so rapid answered!
    Sorry I was not precise...
    When the file should open,
for one application an error is happening,
for the other application which is a "web" application, an other window ( not "web") opens with adobe reader and the pdf document ( the expected behavior is to open adobe reader and the pdf file in the web window already opened)
I think that the file association is ok, if we double clik on a pdf, adobe reader is opening and then the file is opening  in adobe reader window...
If I open Internet Explorer and I search for a pdf on the web, It is openning in the same window web.
But something seems not finish for the medical softwares...

Why the question marks? Can you open PDF files or not? You don't need Firefox to open PDF files.

  • Unable to open pdf files even though have installed the latest version of adobe reader

New computer. Old computer had windows 7, new one has windows 8. On the old computer I can open the files, and I can download fillable forms and save them. On the new computer I can not open some files, and the fillable forms will only save empty, not completed.

I get the error message that says if this page does not go away, that I need to install/upgrade Adobe reader.
This means that you are using a browser that uses its own (incompatible) PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin.
To configure Chrome or Firefox see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html
I don't know about Windows 8, or if/how its PDF viewer is integrated in Internet Explorer.

  • Why can't I open pdf files allthough having adobe reader 9 preinstalled on my new windows 7 laptop?

    Hi!
I think my question might be simple to answer, so please if you read this give it a try...
I just bought a new laptop with windows 7 on it. Adobe Reader 9 was allready installed. I wanted to open simple pdf files, but I got the message "Adobe Reader ?" in an empty field that pops up.
Why can't I open pdf files? Do I also need to install the Adobe Flash Player as well?
I would be very glad if you could give me a hint.
    Thanx

It appears as if Adobe Reader is not correctly installed.  Try installing the latest version 9.2 from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ - make sure that you uncheck any unwanted software bundled with the download.
P.S.  no, you don't need Flash Player to open PDF files.

  • Cannot open pdf files or uninstall adobe reader

I downloaded Reader X but could not open any pdf files so tried to reinstal.  I got the message that it was already installed so tried to uninstall but could not do it. The message was to say that it was using certain files and to close explorer.  Dont know how I do that if I am using it to contact adbobe!!!!  I now have a program which does not work and I really need to be able to get these pdf's downloaded now.  Does anybody know how to get rid of the adobe from the system.

The easiest would be if you close all applications, especially web browsers, then try to uninstall again.
If that still fails, use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459) to remove the current Reader installation, then try again to install.

  • Is there any way open .pdf files except through Adobe Reader?

Everytime I try to open a .pdf file by clicking on it, it somehow is converted to a .doc format that won't open unless I 1st open Adobe Reader.  This is a tedious extra step that doesn't happen on my other computers.
    How to fix that problem?

That sounds like your file association is corrupt; you need to assign .pdf files to Adobe Reader instead of Microsoft Word.
If you need help with that, tell us your operating system.

  • I can't see pdf files. Have Adobe reader loaded

sometimes I can and then I can't. as far as I know I am doing nothing differently. Very frustrating. Am new to mac and on a very steep learning curve. Help witl be appreciated.

As Rick mentioned Preview is very useful, if you don't know how to get to it there are several ways. My favorite for launching apps is the use Spotlight (that is the magnifying glass in the upper right of your screen) by using a keyboard shortcut of Command + Spacebar then typing the name, that way I don't have to take my hands off the  keyboard. You can also navigate to any App in your Dock  or using Finder by going to the Applications folder. Because you are new to OS X I'd recommend bookmarking and beginning to use:
    Switch 101
    Mac 101

  • Hello, I have installed Reader, Adobe Acrobat, trial versions of Photoshop and Illustrator. Some more than once. They work for a few days at most then I am told to re-install. I cant look at any pdf file even though I can still see reader in my programs.

Hello, I have installed Reader, Adobe Acrobat, trial versions of Photoshop and Illustrator. Some more than once. They work for a few days at most then I am told to re-install. I cant look at any pdf file even though I can still see reader in my programs. What is going on and what can I do to fix this?

Unfortunately no, It says "Adobe not responding" as well when I try to open a pdf. It has done this a few times where I had to uninstall and reinstall. Also, Illustrator tells me to uninstall/reinstall as well.

  • Even I have the latest version of Adober reader I still can not open pdf file on safari

Even I have the latest version of Adober reader I still can not open pdf file on safari.

Save the file locally, open the Reader application and try to open it from there. If it still doesn't work provide the full details of your OS, Reader version and the exact error message you're getting when you try to open the file.
