I can't restore my Nano or force to Disk Drive mode

Help!
I have a 4 month old 2GB Nano that I cannot restore with IPOD updater nor can I force into Disk drive mode. It isn't recognized. Basically all the things I find on the help page. If I reset the IPOD (menu and select buttons) the nano will reset but it will not be recognized by Itunes or IPOD updater. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Make sure everything is up to date...
iTunes
iPod Updater
Updating iPod's Software
Now restart your computer. Connect your iPod nano up. Does it work?
Also, does your iPod nano show "Do Not Disconnect" when connected to the computer?
If the iPod nano is still not recognized...
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows
Also, connect it up to the computer and open My Computer. Is the iPod there? If so...
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

  • Can I restore 10.6.8 without the disk?

I have a MacMini (late 2009) that's running 10.6.8. It has stopped connecting to the internet on a regular basis, and often requires you to restart the Safari or Firefox programs in order to work.
    Full specs:
    Macmini3,1
2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB 1067MHz DDR3
When I run the disk utility, it says "This disk needs to be repaired. Then use Disk Utility to repair this disk."
I can not find the original disk--we bought the computer used and it either didn't come with the disk, or we lost it in our last move.
How can I restore it to factory settings without a reliable internet connection and without the disk?
    Thank you.
    Ramie

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for where to order the disks from now. Does either of you by chance have a direct link, as I'm having a hard time tracking it down.
Thankfully, this is the kids computer and has very little on it in.....just music and apps in iTunes and a few bookmarks. Nothing we'll miss terribly, but the music is backed up so we should be good there!
    Thanks again.

  • Can I store old TV shows on another disk drive to save space?

My itunes is eating up available disk space, and there are some TV shows I seldom watch.  Can I store them on an auxiliary drive?  Can I delete them on my MacBook and get them back from the cloud?

Personally I don't trust cloud storage, especially not if somebody could decide tomorrow they no longer want Apple to distribute your show and you suddenly find it is no longer available for a second download.
You have various options with external storage.  One is to split up where iTunes stores your media.  This can result in various annoying things which it is up to you to decide how you want things.  If you don't always turn on the external you will see many ! for broken links which should restore when you quit iTunes, reconnect the drive, then restart iTunes.  You will also need to hold down the option key while adding the items to iTunes from the external drive or when you add them they will get copied to the internal.  Then it will be a bit of a headache when you want to move part of your library to the external.
The second option is to create a new library just for thngs you store on the external drive.  You store the whole library on the external and hold down the option key while starting iTunes to use your movie+show library.
We can provide specifics once you decide which way you want to go.

  • Can I install Snow Leopard with an external disk drive?

I have been trying to update my software to Snow Leopard but I am using an external disk drive and when I try to install the software I get the message "The application 'Install Mac OS X' cannot be used from this volume". Is there any way to fix this problem?

Are you booting your computer from an external drive? If so please say why? How are you trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard? Do you have the 10.6.3 retail Snow Leopard DVD? On what drive are you trying to install Snow Leopard? Are you doing this?
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Install Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with installing OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then use Software Update to download and install any other needed updates for Snow Leopard.

  • Can FCE 4 import directly from Panasonic Hard Disk Drive camcorder

I have FCE 3.5, and to import from my Panasonic SDR-H18 hard disk drive camcorder I need to convert from MPEG-4 to DV using MPEG Streamclip.
Can I import video directly from my Panasonic via a USB port to FCE 4, reading MPEG-4 without converting to DV.

FCE can only capture via FireWire.
FCE 4 will only capture DV and AVCHD. It won't capture the MPEG formats used by standard definition HDD and DVD cameras.

  • Can't restore system (with Time Machine) after Hard Drive recall

Hi, so first a bit of history...
    - Purchased my  iMac in 2010
    - Upgraded iMac to Mountain Lion in 2012 (I downloaded it so don’t have install disks)
    - iMac hard drive was recalled 2013 (Seagate 1TB) – before taking the iMac back, I made sure Time Machine was up to date
I got my iMac back yesterday – I’ve now tried to restore it twice from the Time Machine. On both occasions the progress bar has got close to the end, then just frozen.
Any ideas? I’m wondering if the Mac store restore these recalled Macs with the original OSX it was purchased with, and since my back-ups have been on a newer OSX that might be it. But even if that is the problem, I have no idea how to fix it.
It may have been answered already, but I can’t find any same questions on here.

  • Can TM restore iPhoto Library to Non-Startup External Drive?

My iPhoto Library, 39GB+ contents now "disappeared", resides on LaCie external drive to where I moved it from internal MacBook Pro drive few weeks ago to make more room. Now when I try to restore via TM, I get message that the original drive from which TM backed up does not have room for restoring, very logical. Somehow I need to direct the restoring process to the external LaCie if possible. Any way to do this? Otherwise I have to attempt restoration directly on the LaCie using iPhoto Library Manager, likely a tedious process if practicable. Thanks for any guidance.

What is the size of the resulting file on the external HD? Also how is the external HD formatted? If it's one of the FAT formats for PCs that may be the problem. Try copying that file back to your desktop and see if it will reconvert back to a library. If that's the case, reformat the HD to OS X Extended (journaled).
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can I restore my system after replacing my hard drive with the original leopard discs, then use my time machine backup (with Snow Leopard) to finish the restore?

I am replacing my original 100gb hard drive for a 500gb.  I am currently running OS X.6.7.  I understand the process of how to install the new drive and restore the system from the disc.  What I am unsure of is whether I need the Snow Leopard disc or can I use the original Leopard discs and then plug in my time machine backup to complete the restore?

How do I restore my entire system?.
or, use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your current system to an external HD, replace the HD, then clone the clone back to the new drive.

  • Can't restore or connect to the internet in recovery mode

I just received my computer back from repair, and they wiped my hard drive(replaced the logic board and flash drive).  I set the computer up, and now decided that I would rather restore than use the migration assistant.
When I boot up in recovery mode, it goes straight to the world spinning with an option of network drop down menu.  I select "..."(the only option) and it asks me network name and pw, but when I put those in it doesn't recognize them.  And thats it,  the world spins and I can't get anything accomplished.  The thing is, I tired this before I send it in for repair and it wouldn't work then either.  Which makes me think something else is wrong with the thing, and I am going to have to send it back again.  UGH!!
    Suggestions?
    THANK YOU!

actually you can purchase a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter from Apple.
I used to own a 15 Inch Retina when it first came out last year.

  • I can't restore my Ipod touch 4G, even in DFU mode, i get an error 28, what do i do?

I tried yo restore but i get an error 28, i already have the latsest version of itune and i tried with 2 differents USB cables in 4 different USBs.
Even DFU mode don't work (stille getting that error 28).
Sorry for my bad English an thanks for your help.

Not a good error, could be a hardware problem.
Error 23, 28, 29: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with the white USB Dock Connector cable that shipped with your device, on a known good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value, (00 499901 064000 0), can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software can also cause these errors.

  • Can I restore from Time Machine without installer disk?

Laptop is mounted in FW target mode to Mac Mini, which in turn is connected to Time Capsule containing laptop's backups.  Is there a way to restore laptop's HD from TC without having a Mac OSX installer disk?

It won't be recognized, because of a different MAC address. So the easiest way to restore the Laptop is to boot it from installer disc and restore the Backup.

  • Can't Restore/Update iPad Air. Stuck in DFU mode

I'm not sure what else to do as I've looked and researched and can't figure this out. I'm trying to update my iPad Air to iOS 8.1.3, started at 9 PM and now it's 2 AM. Each time I attempted to update the iOS, I got the iTunes error 17. Research said it may be an issue contacting Apple servers, so I after doing research I edited my hosts file and added 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com to it. After doing that, I get error 3014. At one point I was able to get past that, but then I got error 2005. As it stands now, my iPad is stuck in DFU with the iTunes icon saying to connect it but I can't do anything to get it back up. Can anyone please help figure this out?... To summarize:
    1. iTunes gives error 17 with:
    120.0.0.1 localhosts
    ::1           localhosts
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    2. iTunes gives error 3014 with:
    120.0.0.1 localhosts
    ::1           localhosts

Forgot to mention, this is the most recent version of iTunes 12.1.0.71 and I'm using Windows.

My husband just bought me a new new iMac (yey!) but had assumed it would have a dvd drive (as you do).  It doesn't.  So can I use my old Macbook to upload cds and dvds and somehow import to my itunes on my new computer?

As long as your Macbook is up-to-date.  Go to system preferences>Internet and Wireless>Sharing>check mark CD/DVD sharing.
