I can't select Photos to back up in iCloud from my MacBook Pro. Can anyone tell me why? I have 17 GB of available data that I'm paying for.
My MacBook Pro data is backed up in iCloud (I pay monthly for 20 GB) but apparently my photos are not backed up and it won't allow me to select Photos from the list for back up. Can anyone tell me why?
The current iCloud isn't meant for backing up Macs. It's only for mobile devices.
The beta iCloud Photo Library in iOS 8 will store photos in the iCloud for access from other mobile devices for from iCloud.com. The new Photos app under development for OS X on Macs will not be released until sometime this spring. It will have the capability of storing and accessing photos from iCloud.
iCloud Drive is for sharing documents between multiple devices signed in to the same iCloud ID. When the new Photos application is released the space purchased for iCloud will be available for the photo storage system.

Can I install to G4 iBook via Target mode from a MacBook Pro? I have a non functioning iBook DVD Drive but want to do a clean install. Can I use the FW/Target mode to install? If not what can I do to install w/o the OD not working?
was this a std size disc or a funky shape / small cd of some type?
you will have to pull the machine apart, pull the slot drive, & take all the brackets / slot cover off the front of it (where you put the disc in). you can they try pushing down on the mechanical works (holding the drive as it sits in the ibook & face into the slot where you would put the disc in).
otherwise, you will have to take the drive itself apart, usually taking all the screws off around the outside & pulling the metal cover off will get you in to where you can force or pull the disc out. -
I can hear a loud 'CD spinning/fan like' sound from my MacBook Pro intermittently. Definitely not the audio as i muted it. No CD either. And the only programs running are words, safari and mail.
It sounds like the fan but this is the first time I hear it in the past 6mths using this Mac. If its the fan, shouldn't the sound be there all the time and not intermittent?

For some reason I am unable to attach documents to a yahoo email from my macbook pro. I do not experience this problem on a nomal PC and i can even open attachments on the mac. However on trying to attach a document to an email it keeps coming up wth an error stating ''invalid file selected'' each time i tr. Can anyone advice me what i need to do to address this please?
many thanksSince your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.

Can't find photos after backing up to iCloud - help!
Yesterday I was given a new iPhone 5 after experiencing problems with my camera, I hadn't backed up my phone in a while so did it in store and backed up to iCloud.
On setting up my new iPhone 5 my iCloud account has a different email address to my Apple ID account (the iCloud one is under my old email address). I have tried everything I can think of to get into this account but with no such luck which means none of my photos are there.
Is there a way to access my old account to get my photos?It would make no sense to switch to another account, if you used this account for back up your data. But besides that, many users reported problems to back up photos to iCloud, but it is also very important to know that iCloud would only store photos and videos stored in your Camera Roll (Please see also: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4859).

the problem i have is i have a LG SMART 3D TV which i was running nero media home 4 on from my old laptop, i have tried to install this program on my macbook but is it not compatible.

There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -

Im trying to import my images or view them at least, from my time machine back ups from a now defunct macbook pro, onto my new Macbook Air. As an artist, I need to have these on file for my work.

i am getting blue boxes and blue lines on my iphone 5 screen since i have updated to IOS 8.1.2 can anyone help please?
after upgrading I have been getting the slide to setup screen and I could see 3 options, so I selected 3rd option to restore from iTunes backup. Then I go this error "error occurred while restoring this iphone (-50)....".
Now after several try and restoring iphone to factory setting I am able to restore data successfully iphone. However, I still see the slide to setup iphone screen. I am not sure what is the issue. I am stuck and not able use my phone. not sure how to get rid of this screen and set up iphone screens. -

Why can I not access my Airport Extreme with Bonjour from my MacBook Pro?
Just like the title says. I the Airport Extreme does not show up under Bonjour in Safari. I can access it from the network but not Bonjour. Weird.
Bonjour, as you may already know, is Apple's implementation of zero-configuration networking.
It takes three things to work:
Host Addressing - It requires network devices that support Link-Local addressing, i.e., self-addressing on either, or both, IPv4 & IPv6. ARP is used to verify that no other device on the local network is using the same address. For Macs, self assigned IPv4 Link-Local addressing became available with OS X 10.0. IPv6 always supported this feature. Verify that you have IPv6 Link-Local, as a minimum, running on your Mac. System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi or Ethernet (as appropriate) > Advanced > TCP/IP tab > Configure IPv6 > Either "Automatically" or "Link-local only."
Host Naming - Device naming is dependent on Multicast DNS (mDNS). This is the ".local" name for the device. It will create one unless you enter one in System Preferences > Sharing > Computer Name. mDNS will issue a Query command to see if any other device is using the same name. mDNS is available with all versions of OS X. Windows devices would require Bonjour for Windows. mDNS requires UDP port 5353 to be opened on the device's software firewall. Note: This is not the same as the router's firewall.
Service Discovery - Requires the first two items to be working and available. Note: A problematic /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist file may prevent your Mac from advertising its services.
