I cannot convert my .cr2 files in Adobe DNG

Hello,
Can someone help me with my problem before I loose this client.
I've recently started using the Canon 60D to shoot videos and take pictures. Since I've started using the 60D I was able to land a client who needs pictures taken for his clothing store. I understand that taking RAW pictures are better than JPEG so I am just now experiencing RAW. However I've come across a problem that I cannot find a solution to. I currently own Photoshop CS4 and I do not have the means right now to upgrade to CS5. Photoshop does not recognize my .cr2 files and I later downloaded Adobe DNG 6.4 to convert my files. DNG does not recognize my files, since then Ive removed it and downgraded  to DNG 6.3 and it still does not recognize my files.
I've tried everything imaginable and nothing seems to work. I've tried dragging and dropping my pics into the Adobe DNG icon, moving my pics to my C drive, downloading Canon RAW codec which then turned my files into a unrecognizable data file and I had to reupload my pictures from the camera again. I do not have a CD-ROM for my camera because it is not mine, but someone elses who is letting me use it for business. I have to show this client the pictures by Tuesday and if I do not have this problem resolved by then I could loose this client and all of this hard work was for nothing. Please help, Thank you.

According to the readme file, the 60D was not supported in ACR 5.7 which was the last version created that is compatible with Photoshop CS4.  If you are not in a position to upgrade to Photoshop CS5 then download the latest DNG converter (currently version 6.4) and convert your raw images to DNG files.  Then make you will be able to open those with what you have.

It is possible that you are not following instructions correctly in the DNG converter. The DNG converter interface asks for the FOLDER that contains your raw images. Choose the folder, but don't open it. After you have chosen the folder, click on the Convert button. The DNG conversion process should start.  Does that help you?

  • Can some help with CR2 files ,Ican`t see CR2 files in adobe bridge

can some help with CR2 files ,I can`t see CR2 files in adobe bridge when I open Adobe Photoshop cs5- help- about plugins- no camera raw plugins. When i go Edit- preference and click on camera raw  shows message that Adobe camera raw plugin cannot be found

That's strage. Seems that the Camera Raw.8bi file has been moved to different location or has gone corrupt. By any chance did you try to move the camera raw plugin to a custom location?
Go To "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats" and look for Camera Raw.8bi file.
If you have that file there, try to download the updated camera raw plugin from the below location.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5371&fileID=5001
In case  you ae not able to locate the Camera Raw.8bi file on the above location, then i think you need to re-install PS CS5.

  • Problem Converting Canon CR2 Files to DNG

I am currently on holiday, shooting photos with my Canon 70D in raw (CR2), and I have my Macbook Air with me, with Lightroom 5.4 installed on it.  After each day's shooting, I have been putting the flash card from the camera into the laptop, and downloading the photos using Lightroom, converting the CR2 files to DNG in the process.  This was working fine until a couple of days ago when suddenly, Lightroom has decided that it can no longer do the conversion.  It displays the photos on the card, it allows me to choose the ones I want to download, and then it tells me that it cannot convert/download them because it cannot read the files.  Well, if it cannot read the files, how can it display them so that I can make my choices?  And why, after working successfully for weeks, am I suddenly getting this error message ... nothing has changed in my hardware or software in either the camera or computer.  Any and all help would be most appreciated.  Thank you!!

Thanks very much for the answer, but I'm afraid it is not very enlightening ... at least to someone like me.  I do not understand where I would look for a write permission issue ... especially since nothing has changed (as far as I know).  Can you give me any further help?  Thanks!

  • Converting Oracle UPK files to Adobe Captivate

Hello, my company needs to convert Oracle UPK files into Adobe Captivate files. We are changing systems and we don't want to remake all of our training simulations again. Does anyone know of a software program that can convert upk files into adobe captivate files?(basically, dhtml(for upk) into swf(for captivate).
Also, I've read the captivate uses cptx and upk uses odarc, these would be the collection of individual files that make up swf and dhtml, respectively...I assume. Any converter for any of these files would be nice?

I've never heard of a converter to do this.  I hate to break the bad news, but if Captivate is your desired tool, then you'll just need to recreate your courses in Cp.

  • Question on converting edited CR2 files to DNG

Sorry, I cannot find a separate DNG forum. If this question is in the wrong place, please direct me to the correct forum.
I have lots of CR2 RAW files on my computer, and I am considering converting them to DNG. Many of these RAW files have already been edited and so have a separate XMP sidecar file containing the edits in the same folder. If I convert (using the Adobe DNG converter) these edited RAW files to DNG, what is converted? The CR2 RAW file alone, so that the converted DNG file is the same as the original unedited CR2 file? If so, what happens to the orphaned XMP file? Ignored?
My concern is that I will lose all RAW edits if I convert to DNG because the conversion process ignores the edits contained in the separate XMP file.
Can someone explain this to me? Thanks.

So what you're saying is that the DNG conversion de-mosaics the image?  I guess that's not surprising, since for compatibility with older Photoshop versions you'd have to deliver a more or less standardized format.
Kind of throws a big monkey wrench into claims that converting to DNG is functionally equivalent to opening raw images directly though...  I was experimenting with a "fall leaves" image last night and no matter what I tried with the 2010 process I was still able to get more detail in bright red leaves with the 2003 process.
I suppose that says if you want maximum flexibility and control you'd better buy the Photoshop upgrades and stick to opening raw camera files directly.  A variant on the "if you want to play you have to pay" adage.

P.S., Does the DNG converter read the centralized database as well as XMP files?  I personally prefer the database to the extra files.

  • Converting Canon .CR2 files to .dng

I have what appears to be the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter (8.6.0.254); but when I direct it to a folder containing .CR2 files from my Canon PowerShot G7X camera, it tells me "No items match your search" and does no conversion. How can I convert this type of RAW file to .DNG?

I don't understand your question. Here is what I do in the Digital Negative Converter:
    - Step 1 is "Select the images to convert"; I click on "Select folder" and navigate to the folder containing a .CR2 file
    - in that window, I see "No items match your search." even though it contains a .CR2 file from my Canon camera. Whether I then click on Select or Cancel makes no difference, since the program does not recognize any files.
    - If despite that, I click on Convert, I receive an error message "The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files."
In other words, .CR2 raw files are not being recognized by the latest released production version of the converter.

  • Can't find any raw files to convert when I am using Adobe DNG converter

Recently I purchased a new Olympus XZ-1 camera. I shoot exclusively RAW pictures (raw files for this camera are called .orf). Then when I tried to import these .orf files in the organizer of Phtoshop Element 8 it was imposible, nor then I could see those pictures in the organizer. By surfing on diffrent forums, I was able to figure out that Camera Raw included in Element 8, Camera Raw 5.5, is not supporting the .orf raw from Olympus and if I didn’t want to upgrade my Element 8 to Element 9 or 10, a simple alternative was to download Adobe DNG converter to convert all my .orf files into dng files, which could then imported by Element 8 and opened in Camera raw 5.5.
I downloaded DNG converter version 6.6 and installed it in on my computer running on Windows 7. The problem is that once inside DNG converter, when selecting the folder where all my .orf files are (Select folder), I can't see any raw files to convert there! I tried to select a folder with NEF files instead (raw files from Nikon) and it is the same problem! Why can’t I see those files of mine I want to convert when I select the folder in DNG converter?
    I'm dying for help!
    Thanks a lot!

When you are selecting the folder in the DNG converter, you only click on the folder.  You DON'T double click on the folder.  After you have set your options, and chosen the folder, you click on the Convert button.  It is only after you have clicked on Convert that you will see the list of files that are being converted.  You will also be able to see an indicator of the progress of the conversion.  It really does work.  Just to verify, the procedure I outlined is one that I did just prior to trying to write the instructions.  It really isn't rocket science.  Just choose the folder, only the folder, and click on the Convert button.
You'll notice that the button prompts you to select the folder, it doesn't say anything about selecting a file.  You only select the folder that contains the files.  You will never see a list of files using this method.  If you only want to convert one or two images you can use the other method.  Leave the DNG converter closed, open the folder containing the DNG files in your operating system folder browsing utility, choose the file you want to convert, and drag it onto the icon for the DNG converter.  That is how you choose individual images.

  • Using Sigma DP1 Raw X3F files via Adobe DNG Converter to Aperture 2.1.2

I wish to use Aperture 2.1.2 with my Sigma DP1 raw ( X3F format) photos.
I used the latest Adobe DNG converter 5.1.0.30 to successfully convert Sigma DP1 X3F to DNG format files. After importing the DNG files into an Aperture directory, they were not an acceptable file format, and thus I could not use them.
Does this mean that Aperture is not reading the DNG file correctly or Adobe has got it wrong with their DNG conversion of the X3F file format ?
Do I need to wait for an Aperture update to fix the problem of using the X3F file format ? Is there a solution around in using Aperture with Sigma X3F raw photos ?

Aperture does not currently support Sigma X3F or linear DNG (only raw DNG), and Adobe's DNG Converter can only yield a linear DNG from an X3F. So your only choices right now are to use a different product such as Lightroom which does support X3F, or use the supplied Sigma Photo Pro software to generate 16 bit TIFFs which you can then import into Aperture. Because Sigma Photo Pro is unstable and slow on Macs, I've been effectively forced to use Lightroom. Lightroom is a capable product, but it lacks the elegance of Aperture, so I remain dimly hopeful that Apple will eventually support X3F, and somewhat more hopeful that it will at the very least eventually support linear DNG.

  • Cannot Convert protected WMA files

I'm new to iTunes. I have lots of songs I previously downloaded from Dell's MusicMatch. When I attempt to import them I get the error that they are proected WMA files and iTunes cannot convert them. How do I unprotect the files so I can import them? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Yes, you can change it in iTunes prefs.
Also, how do you suggest is the best way to bring songs over - I know if they are protected I need to burn them to a CD but can you drag, etc?
Once you burn them to an audio CD, import it as normal.
You'll probably have to edit the ID3 tags with all the info.

  • I cannot convert large psa file

I have two catalogs created in Photoshop Album 3.2 and I downloaded Elements 11 and had no difficulty finding and converting the smaller file, but the function will not display the larger file to be selected for conversion.    Is size the problem, and if so, how can I cope?

Sometimes catalog conversion fails. It’s often a question of needing full permission settings and the easiest way to make it work is as an administrator directly from the desktop which bypasses the welcome screen background processes.
Make a shortcut for organizer as follows:
On Windows right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
Find the PSE Organizer application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
    C: >> Program Files (x86) >> Adobe >> Elements 11 Organizer
Within the Elements 11 Organizer folder find the application PhotoshopElementsOrganizer (not Photoshop Elements 11.0)
Select (highlight) PhotoshopElementsOrganizer and click Next
    Then click Finish.
Now right-click on your new desktop icon and choose “Run As Administrator” Then authorize by clicking yes in the User Account Control dialog.
    From the Organizer menu click:
    File >> Manage Catalogs
    Then click the “Convert” button
Select your desired catalog from the list of previous versions of PSE to highlight it then click the “Convert” button down below it
You should receive a message when the conversion has been successfully completed and your earlier catalog will be automatically re-named. Choose the new name from the list and click the “Open“ button and you are good to go.

  • I can't open nikon D750 NEF files with adobe dng converter 8.7

I have downloaded adobe dng converter 8.7 to open NEF files from my new nikon D750 but it not works. The program do not recognice the files. Do you know how solve this problem?

You have to launch and run the Adobe DNG Converter on each batch of raw files you want to convert to raw DNGs.
You have to point it to the folder containing your raw files.  It does NOT work on individual raw files; it simply won't see them.  It works only on folders.
