I cannot open safari on my Macbook Pro Yosemite How do I reinstall it?

I have recently purchased a new MacBook Pro Retina with Yosemite OS X.  I got Trovi.com adware on the computer and in the process of removing this I lost the use of Safari.   When I attempt to open Safari I get a message telling me It does not connect with the server.  How can this be rectified and  how do I reinstall the software if this is the method to use?

JudySings,
I tried all your suggestions without success.  However, I have now been able to recover Safari access to server, or at least Safari seems to be working.  I pick up the solution among a number on Duck Duck web site.
Here is what was suggested and worked.
Go to Safari> Preferences>Privacy
Clk Cookies and Web site data-Highlight only "Always allow" option and "Remove all website data".
Go to " Website use of Local Services and only highlight "Deny without prompting".
The Safari message of "Safari cannot connect to server" did not appear and the browser bar opened.
I cannot answer why this worked but it did.
I thank you for your help.

Everytime I open Safari on my MacBook Pro a pop-up window from my Finder menu, with the Applications highlighted on the left in the favorites column with the Resources folder highlighted comes up and locks my Safari page until I manually close the Resources window then I have to refresh the internet search address line at the top of Safari. Can someone tell me how to stop this. It started after a software upgrade. It didn’t do that before. Thank you.

A few thoughts for diagnosis/testing purposes:
Have you recently run the disk utility and repaired HD and permissions? If not do so.
Boot into the Safe mode - hold down shift key on boot - and see if the problems are still there. Some functions won't work but see if anything odd happens.
Check your startup items. Get rid of them temporarily.
Create a new user account and see if the problems occur with the new account.
Lastly, be sure your backup is up-to-date.

  • I purchased adobe photoshop elements 12 and cannot open organizer on my macbook pro 7.1  Any suggest

i purchased adobe photoshop elements 12 and cannot open organizer on my macbook pro 7.1  Any suggestions?

After I successfully install the adobe photoshop elements 12 for mac, I try to open organizer and a window pops up that says
"Adobe Elements 12 Organizer cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Elements 12 Organizer works with this version of Mac OSX. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OSX. Click report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple."
I have checked for any updates on my Mac and it is up to date.
I have tried reloading and am still getting the same result.
I can open Editor, but not Organizer.
I am running Mac OSX version 10.6.2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 4 GB  memory, all standard stuff that came in the computer and I have no security software running when I do this.
Any idea why it is not working?
    Thanks, Victor

  • I cannot open Iphoto on my macbook pro

I cannot open Iphoto on my macbook pro what do I do?

That's a bit like saying my car is broken, what do I do?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?

Safari in my macbook pro get stuck cant opned it. pls help me some clues to solve it.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • I suddenly cannot open facebook on my macbook pro running OSX 10.8.4. I am traveling in Vietnam, if that means anything. . .

Hi. I've been traveling, using facbook on iphone and my macbook. Suddenly I cannot access Facebook. I prefer to use Safari as my broser, but I downloaded Mozilla tonight to just see if it was a browser issue. The problem carries over into Mozilla Firefox. Both say they can't find the server. However, I can access facebook through my iPhone.
Can anyone help me so I can use facebook through my computer--I'd like to use it on my computer. I use Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8.4. iPhone is iPhone 5 running 6.1.4.
    Thanks,
    EST

Try enabling the Personal Hotspot on the iPhone and connecting the Mac to the Internet thru it. If Facebook works ok then, that would mean the ISP is either blocking or having connection problems whereas the phone carrier is not.
Be mindful that carrier data charges can be outrageous so use this as a test first.

  • Cannot open iCloud document on Macbook pro (numbers, pages, ...)

Im am sharing some documents between iPad, iPhone, iMac and the Macbook pro. The Macbook pro is new, I am starting to use it now.
When trying to open a document (e.g. a numbers document) on my Macbook pro, I can see it in the "open file" dialog; the dialog even shows a preview. When clicking at the document I get an error message, telling me that numbers cannot open the file.
I can open my iCloud files at my iMac without a problem; no problem with the iPad also. I am using the newest versions of numbers, pages at all my devices.
At my Macbook pro I can move the iCloud document to the desktop. At the desktop it opens without any problem.
    Any idea?

My language setting is german; therefore the error message is german, too:
Die Datei „BLE Firmware Slotplan.numbers“ konnte nicht geöffnet werden.
My best translation is: "The file „BLE Firmware Slotplan.numbers“ could not be opened.

  • Cannot Open Appleworks Documents in MacBook Pro

Hi; I recently got my MacBook Pro. I installed Appleworks 6.2.9 and transferred files via CD from my old G-4 PowerBook (which also had Appleworks 6.2.9 on it). Most of the document are now in something called Unix Exec and won't open. I've tried to open in Appleworks and in Microsoft Word and I get an error message that says "An I/O Error Occurred." Even the documents that somehow remained as Appleworks 6 icons in the transfer won't open - I get the same error message. Some documents end in .cwk and others as [v 6.0], but neither of these will open.
I have well over 100 documents and half a book written of 150+ pages - Help, what do I do?
    Thanks!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

i guess a number of things will sometimes work for this. try going to utilities > disk utility and then repairing disk permissions. if that doesn't work, then boot to the install disk and repair the disk. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 if that still doesn't work, then try resetting launch services by removing the following files--
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.LocalCache.csstore
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.UserCache.csstore
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
"localcache" and "usercache" will vary as to what is there. just pull the files that start with "com.apple.LaunchServices" in these locations. let me know if any of that works for you.

  • Lion os x lion damaged in macbook pro and how to online reinstall

  • I had my hard drive replaced by Geek Squad and iPhoto is no longer on my MacBook Pro. How do I reinstall withouth paying?

I can't seem to find it in Purchases as other threads have suggested.

How did you initially install iPhoto and the other iLife applications? Did it come preinstalled on your Mac with Snow Leopard and does your mac have install disks? Your signature says 10.6.8.
Then iPhoto is on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one; then only select  to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only'.
This should restore iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand.
If iPhoto did not come preinstalled, and you bought the iLife applications separately on DVD, use this DVD to reinstall.
But if you bought iLife bundled with a Lion or Mt. Lion installation, you should be able to download again from the AppStore. Have you signed into the AppStore with exactly the same AppleID you used, when you set up your Mac?
How did you restore your other applications? If you restored by migrating your applications and data from a backup, iPhoto should have been included.
    Regards

OS Version:      Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J4139) <  from your crash report.
Since you have v10.6.7 installed, install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo

    Try Safari.
