I cannot see my family's shared content

I have done everything apple instructed me to do about setting up family sharing. Unfortunately, I still cannot see my family's shared content under purchases. I could not even see their names. However, on their devices, they can see me and they can see my purchases.

Hello Anna,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
This article would be the first one I would check out for problems seeing your family's shared content.

  • HT201454 I systemically tried every suggestion on Apple's "If you don't see your family's shared content" help page. None worked. Does anyone have a solution?

My wife and I are set up for family sharing, but neither OS X nor iOS app store purchases appear to be sharing (i.e. the App doesn't just say "Get" for the other person after it is bought by the partner). Apple's suggestions did not work. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I solved my own problem but I don't think this is how Family Sharing is meant to work. On my Mac, I purchased an app. On my wife's mac, when I search for that app in the store, it has a button with a price on it (not a cloud symbol or anything that would indicate it had already been purchased by someone in Family Sharing). HOWEVER, when I click on the "Purchases" button at the top of the app store, use the pull down menu to change to the other member of the family, then all the apps can be installed.
I thought sharing would mean that the apps would be free from their normal site in the app store. If you have to go to purchases to see apps purchased by the family, then you might miss that fact and double pay. Perhaps Apple did this on purpose to help its app developers make more money despite Family Sharing.

  • Cannot see more than one shared virtual disk at a time

I have multiple virtual disks configured and as I add them to the specific virtual machine im using it modifies the vm.cfg as follows:
    disk = ['file:/OVS/running_pool/110_openfiler/System.img,hda,w',
    ',hdc:cdrom,r',
    'file:/OVS/sharedDisk/openfiler-ocs-u01.img,hdd,w!',
    'file:/OVS/sharedDisk/openfiler-ocs-u02.img,hde,w!',
    'file:/OVS/sharedDisk/openfiler-SAN-test.img,hdf,w!',
when the machine boots up the contents of /dev only contains the shared drive hdd, thus I cannot see hde or hdf.
One thing I tried was to edit the vm.cfg after adding the shared drives to the machine to mimic:
    disk = ['file:/OVS/running_pool/110_openfiler/System.img,hda,w',
    ',hdc:cdrom,r',
    'file:/OVS/sharedDisk/openfiler-ocs-u01.img,sda,w!',
    'file:/OVS/sharedDisk/openfiler-ocs-u02.img,sdb,w!',
    'file:/OVS/sharedDisk/openfiler-SAN-test.img,sdc,w!',
This allows me to see all three drives when I issue fdisk -l

but then my question becomes... could this cause any potential problems?

I found that there are 4 IDE disks and 7 SCSI disks at most for HVM guest on Oracle VM 2.1 version. For IDE disks, The available disknames are from hda to hdd; and for SCSI disks, are from sda to sdg. you may make test about it. :)

  • Apple tv cannot see my mac - home sharing problems

I bought a new apple tv (v2) and i have to tell you it has caused me more problems than my original apple tv ever did. For starters, the connection from the apple tv to the mac is always lost. I always have to reboot apple tv 2 in order for it to see my mac. All sharing is kept on all the time.  I know the new apple tv works on streaming, rather than downloading to the device, but so far, version one worked much more smoothly.  It's frustrating when a new version of a product works less efficiently than the original. If anyone has any hints or suggestions, it would be very much appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Such problems are often network related and in many cases the result of interference, are you able to test your Apple TV with an Ethernet connection to either confirm or eliminate wifi as a problem.

  • Windows 7 Cannot see All folders in shared directory

    Hi all,
Here's a real stumper of a question. I have two folks connecting to our XServe G5 server using Windows 7 Home Premium via Boot Camp. Mapping to the network drive via IP address allows the two users to connect to the shares, no problem. . .or so it would seem.
For whatever, unintelligible reason, certain folders in the directory are non-viewable, and inaccessible. For example, this is what one of our users running on a Mac will see:
    Folder 2003
    Folder 2004
    Folder 2005
    Folder 2006
    Folder 2007
    Folder 2008
    Folder 2009
The Mac users use the EXACT same logon credentials as the Boot Camp Windows 7 Users. However, when looking at the same folder list for the Windows 7 users:
    Folder 2003
    Folder 2004
    Folder 2005
    Folder 2006
    Folder 2008
    Folder 2009
I have never come across anything quite like this. As I said, our Mac and PC users utilize the EXACT same credentials to access this shared folder on our XServe G5, yet for some reason, one or two folders are completely inaccessible on the Windows side. I've tried manually entering the directory, and I receive a "folder not found" error. Which is ridiculous, because it's there.
Any idea what I should look at to get a clearer idea?

This is off topic here, Gerchak, but I couldn't think of another way of responding to an older thread of yours that was archived: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11164152#11164152
You can reduce your wired memory usage by 256MB by disabling the IntelHD graphics, which uses shared memory for its VRAM. My testing has shown that disabling that (and thus leaving the GT 330M active all the time) really doesn't impact battery performance that much. I'd rather have the RAM, personally.
Here's what I did on my 2010 17" to disable the built-in Intel HD graphics:
    % cd /System/Library/Extensions
% ls -l AppleIntelHD* # this should show you the extensions for the HD chip
    % sudo mkdir AppleIntelHD-disabled
    % sudo mv AppleIntelHDGraphics* AppleIntelHD-disabled
Wait about two minutes for kextcache to run and update your extensions cache, and then reboot. Your wired RAM should have fallen by 256MB.

  • Can't see shared content on family share

I set up family share for three members. The first two members' (me and my dad) accounts were originally paid by the same credit card and once we joined family share we could easily access each other's shared content.
But, once I added my sister (whose account is originally paid by a different credit card) I could not access any of her shared content (it's not even visible on me or my dad's phones) and nor can she access our shared content.
I have made sure that the "Share My Purchases" option is turned on.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this problem? Is the fact that her separate account used a different credit card in the past, a problem?

    Hello, Gryphon91.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you are having an issue with accessing content via Family Sharing.  There are just a couple more troubleshooting steps that I could recommend in the article below.

    Hello bartce02,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are part of a family group, there are a few good support resources that help with setting up and using Family Sharing on your Mac.
First, make sure your Mac meets the system requirements for iCloud and Family Sharing:

Next, see the steps at this link to set up Family Sharing on your Mac:
OS X Yosemite: Set up Family Sharing
Once it's set up, use these steps to share and access your family's shared content:

  • Family icloud sharing: error message when trying to download itunes content

I just signed up for family icloud sharing, but cannot download any of my husband's itunes content. I just get an error message saying "An error has occurred" with the buttons "retry" or "done. Every file is the same. Thanks in advance for your help!

Some songs will not download if you have restricted your device from downloading explicit content. This seems to be true even for songs that are not marked "explicit." To remove the restriction, if only temporarily: Settings > General > Restrictions > Music, Podcasts & iTunes U > Explicit (slide dot to left).

  • Cannot see shared libraries

    I have a 1st gen iPad (ipad1) running iOS 5.1.1
Ipad1 is connected to iTunes 11.0.1.12 on my windows 32 bit laptop (laptop1) using my Apple ID (ID1)
I have just bought a new iPad retina (ipad2) running iOS 6.0.1 for my partner
Ipad2 is connected to ITunes 11.0.1.12 on my partners' windows 32 bit laptop (laptop2) using his Apple ID (ID2)
We want to share content, including apps, books, films and music so we tried to set up home sharing over our wireless Internet home network
We have authorised ID1 and ID2 on both laptop1 and laptop2
We have set up home sharing using ID2 on both laptop1 and laptop2
Both laptops have the firewalls switched off
But we still cannot see each other's libraries on iTunes on laptop1 and laptop2
We have tried rebooting, shutting down and reopening iTunes, turning home sharing off and on etc. but still cannot get it to work and it is driving us mad. Many posts suggested this was a problem with iTunes 11 so we even tried reverting to iTunes 10.3.1 and still could not see each others libraries.
    Could someone please help!

I couldn't see shared iTunes libraries. Apple Support could not help, "...it's a network issue..."
Here's the answer (...at least for me...).
We have 4 Mac's & 1 Windows machine. Network is a DSL modem to a Links router, to an Apple Airport (2 hard wired & 3 wireless computers).
With above clue and the techie mantra RTFM (Read The F..ing Manual) I noted the Airport manual says that when connected to a router the Airport should be configured NOT to issue it's own IP addresses; in this mode it acts as a 'bridge' to the router who issues all IP's. Problem solved.
    Everyone can see everyone else.
    Hope this helps someone!

  • After upgrading to Yosemite I cannot see my other iMac at home (note I am at work) in the Finder window shared devices.  Note my iMac at home is connected to an airport extreme (as is my work iMac) and I can see both airport extreme.

Aftger I upgraded to Yosemite I cannot see my iMac at home from my work (i.e in Finder window under shared devices).  Note both my work and home iMac are connected to time capsules and I can see both of those time capsules but I cannot see either iMac from the other location.  My guess is that the time capsule is blocking the connection to the iMac.  One last comment occasionally (5% of the time) my iMac does magically appear in the shared Finder window but this is extremely rare.  Any help????

Just discovered this one myself.  OK, this may sound silly but place your cursor next to the word "Shared" on the finder sidebar.  The "hidden" command "Show" will magically appear.  Clicking that will display your other network attached devices.
This appears to be a new "feature" that some freaking genius thought was some how "Cool".   My only assumption is that Apple programers expect users to randomly move their cursor around the screen in hopes of finding some critical function like looking for an easter egg in their favorite game.

  • To download shared content, your family must have a valid payment method

I'm trying to share movies bought on my account with my son and keep receiving the message "to download shared content, your family must have a valid payment method". I already have a credit card linked to my account. Help?

    Hi Mel3b,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with Family Sharing. If you are getting the "valid payment" alert message when you alreadyt have a credit card on file, you may want to try re-entering the card details on the account, even if you know they are currently correct. • I cannot see my itunes library on the main menu under computers despite the network being active and the home sharing on on both the devices the mac and apple tv. Any ideas?

I cannot see my itunes library on the main menu under computers despite the network being active and the home sharing on on both the devices the mac and apple tv. Any ideas?

    Hi Monty,
Sorry to say it, but this is normal for Apple TVs. I've owned a TV2 and a TV3, and neither lasted for an entire year. They are quite fragile and of low quality, and as you can see here, quite fussy even when they work. The wi-fi receiver on these are cheap and unreliable.
Consider the $99 an annual rental fee. They rarely work for a whole year, so if you are going to use the platform, you will have to replace them constantly.
Also, when one dies under warranty, never, never send it to Apple for repair. Go to the Apple Store for replacement. I sent my ATV3 in for warranty repair using a box sent to me by Apple, and although FedEx tracking showed it was accepted by Apple, it was never seen again. Apple won't replace it or even return my calls.

Thanks for your quick response Kishore.
The user is the Admin user. This user is part of XMLP_ADMIN group as well.
