using macbook air

iOS doesn't run on MacBook Airs.
Use this tip to identify your MacBook Air:
How to find your Mac's model and age?
Only MacBook Air 4,1 and later can't run Snow Leopard natively.
That said, there are options with this tip if it turns out you do have that MacBook Air or a later one:

The only workaround would be to purchase the current version of iLife apps from the App Store.
Lion doesn't support the old PowerPC architecture anymore, which is what iLife '06 was written for.
If the internal apps are universal, right-click on the mpkg and choose Show Contents. Then, dig through and run the specific installer package for each application.

Correct. Applications designed to run on the old PPC Macs (which Apple stopped making in 2005) cannot run on Mountain Lion.
You need to update your printer driver:

  • Adobe reader 6.0 app won't open because PowerPC apps are no longer supported

I can no longer open .pdf files on my newer imac which is over 3 yrs. old,  This issue seemed to have started sometime after updating to icloud & Lion??  on this imac but for some reason, I do not have the same problem on my other imac that is running the same Lion v. 10.7.2 which is over 4 yrs. old.  I can see that the older imac is running Adobe Reader 9.4.6 and opens .pdf files.
Here is the error message I get on my newer imac:
adobe reader 6.0 app won't open because PowerPC apps are no longer supported
I don't remember if or when I started having this problem on the newer imac but it use to open .pdf files.  Nor can I find any reference to ANY Adobe Reader version other than 6.0 on this computer,  Even after several tries and downloading off the Adobe web site using Safari.
I have made several attempts to download off the adobe web site using safari which shows it is downloading the app. but cannot find it anywhere on my computer's HD or Desktop even when using Spotlight to search for it.
In fear of screwing up my new 17" MBP which arrived yesterday I have not attempted to transfer any info/files/data off of my other imacs due to they info dating back to the PowerPC days that transfered during switching to newer mac models.
Thanks for any help in this matter

I have tried several times to update the Intel Mac verision of adobe but cannot find where it was downloaded to on my computer.   When I do a search on my computer, the only version that is found is the old 6.0 Power PC which is no longer supported.

You need to upgrade to Office 2008 or newer, or switch to a product such as OpenOffice or iWork.

  • Upgraded to 10.8, now Quicken 2006 not working because PowerPC apps are no longer supported?  What should I do?

I upgraded my computer to 10.8, and now PowerPC applications won't work.  I have Quicken 2006, and I need a way to run it.  Is there a software or anything that I can run it with?  Or can I find the files on my computer somewhere and put them into a newer version of Quicken, such as 2013?

You can install Snow Leopard on an external disk, then boot to that to use your PowerPC apps.
Or, you can upgrade the Apps to versions that are Intel or Universal. Quicken 2007 was recently updated to a Universal version--it only took them about five years.

  • I am running Lion and trying to reinstall iLife06. I get a message "You can't open the application iLife06.mpkg because PowerPC apps are no longer supported." But my disk says it requires an PPC OR intel Core processor?

I spent ages digging out the disc as it was installed on my old iMac and it clearly states that it does not require a Power PC.
I also tried upgrading to imovie 11 but all my old movies won't import.
I've heard from others in these forums that iMovie 6 is the only way to resolve this and people have described how they are running it on Lion.
So how can I get iMovie 6 to run?

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)
You will find that the above applies to any PPC-only software including old iLife. You can purchase the new iLife versions on the App Store.

  • PowerPC apps are no longer supported.

I updated my Macbook Pro to Lion 10.7.4 and now Photoshop CS won't open because PowerPC apps are no longer supported. Any ideas? Free ones preferably

There's no way to make PowerPC applications run under Lion. If you don't want to update Photoshop, install 10.6 on a spare external hard drive and boot from it when necessary.

  • POWERPC APP are no longer supported

I recently bought a new Mac. After installing Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium I am unable to open the program's. The following message appears : .. unable to open CS2 because PowerPC app are no longer supported. I read on Apple forum that this has to do with the new OS Maverics. Does this mean that I must purchase the whole program again ??

No, you do not have to repurchase the program. You do, however, need to make sure you install Rosetta, which will run outdated software like this still. I am STILL working on figuring out how to get Rosetta on mine since the update (without checking the Rosetta box) was already done. If you figure out how to get Rosetta after the update has been done, PLEASE let me know. That's the problem I am having...

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

  • I have a 4yo MacBook Pro, that has a super-old version of Microsoft Word ('04?) on it. I upgraded to Mavericks. Now Word PowerPC apps are no longer supported. How do I change my default opener to Pages?

I have a 4yo MacBook Pro that has a super-old version of Microsoft Word ('04?).  When I try to open a Word document, a note pops up saying that PowerPC apps are no longer supported.  How do I change my default document opener to Pages?

Can I safely send the Word Office icons and anything else related to it that shows up in spotlight to the trash?
You mean for Office apps? That, I don't know for sure as I don't use MS Office on my Mac. I would check to see if there is some sort of MS Office uninstaller that needs to be run before dragging the icons to Trash. Either from one of the Office apps Help or About or search the Internet for a solution.
EDIT: A quick Google search found this link which may help you.

  • "powerpc apps are no longer supported" when updated to yosemite

Updated macbook pro to yosemite and getting disclaimer that reads, "powerpc apps are no longer supported" for my microsoft office apps. Is there a way to get this problem fixed? I would hate to no longer have access to these apps and have to fork out  another $200 to get my apps back.

    See PeterVL57's first response.
I'm guessing you upgraded from Snow Leopard (10.6.x) and are using Office 2004.  Snow Leopard was the last version of OS X to support Power PC applications.  Office 2004 is the last version of Office that requires Power PC support to run.  Unfortunately, there's no fix for this unless you update your software.  The 2008 and 2011 versions of Office will run on Yosemite.  For less costly alternatives to open and work with Office files, you can purchase iWork (Pages, Keynote, and Numbers are each available in the App Store for $20) or install LibreOffice (it's free -- http://www.libreoffice.org/).
Alternatively, you could create a second partition on your Mac, install Snow Leopard and Office on this partition, and boot from this partition to use Office.

  • HT1338 i purchased dvd studio pro and im trying to install it but when i go to click continue it gives me this  "you cant open the application gestalt tool becasue powerpc applications are no longer supported" what does that mean and how can i fix this ?

i purchased dvd studio pro and im trying to install it but when i go to click continue it gives me this  "you cant open the application gestalt tool becasue powerpc applications are no longer supported" what does that mean and how can i fix this ?

I note this information from Wikipedia: "DVD Studio Pro was a high-end software tool published by Apple Inc. to allow users to create DVD masters to be sent out for replication at production houses. Its tight integration with other Apple applications allows users to take Final Cut Pro and Motion projects and render them into the DVD format without encoding to intermediary formats. This streamlines the production workflow and reduces overhead."
If that is your intent, finding a substitute program that will run on your Mac may not be as efficient.  Others can advise you on alternatives, or you can post a new thread specifically with that question.
BTW: what Mac and what version of OS X?
If it is important to you to continue to use DVD Studio Pro, consider the option of installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels on your Mac:

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know some details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
