  • My 7th gen ipod Classic has frozen, I have tried everything- HELP!

I have tried holding menu and select; holding menu and play; leaving overnight for any change; connecting to docking station; connecting to computer. NOTHING is making my screen work- its frozen on the home page and it will not navigate anywhere. please help?

    Hello,
Try plugging it into your computer, and see if it will turn on. If not, bring it to the apple store to see if they can help, or help you buy a new one.

set up ipod touch to cox email, ive tried everything and cant get it to work. thanks!

Here's an answer from the net:
Go to Settings/Mail,contacts,calendars/Add account choose other, choose Add Mail Account. Fill in name, email address, password and description on the screen that comes up. Save those.
One the next screen tat comes up click om POP in the first line then fil in the host name as
spop.west.cox.net or spop.east.cox.net or the one to go with your region.
Note that is not a misprint, that is spop (secure pop)
Fill in your username one more time (the password should have carried over from previously)
Fill in your outgoing mail server like smtp.west.cox.net (change for your region) and click Save.
When all the settings are verified a checkmark will appear next to them all and you are good to go.
If it says something like "can't connect via SSL would you like to ..." then you probably missed the step about selecting POP on the second screen and are trying IMAP so go back and try over with POP. Or perhaps mistyped soemthing.
Once everything is working you can go back into the settings and see that it has automatically connected on port 995 and that SSL is on
Note that you probably won't be able to send email from a wifi in a cafe or similar as cox won't let you connect to their smtp from outside their network.
I haven't tried receiving mail from a non cox connected wifi yet but I suspect it will work just fine. Anyway these settings work for me using my ipod to my home wifi router connected to cox.
I could not find a definitive guide when I searched so I hope this helps other folks trying to configure this.
I got the spop from "Mail for Mac OS X 10.5 configure SSL / POP" here:

  • Cannot add music to iPod Classic...I've tried everything

A couple weeks ago my ipod started acting up so I restored it based on a suggestion from someone. After I restored the ipod to "factory" conditions I went to add my library back to my ipod and I started running into some issues.
When I would connect my ipod the first thing that popped up was an error checking message from windows asking if I wanted to "scan the disk and fix issues." I would go through the scan and then I would open up itunes again and the ipod would start to sync. itunes would start adding songs but eventually an error message popped up "attempting to copy to the disk failed an unknown error occured" and then when I would dissconnect there would be no music on my ipod and in the settings it would say I have 0 memory. Sometimes I would just add a few songs at a time and it would add the songs to my ipod but eventually an error message would pop up and the ipod would be wiped clean again.
I have tried everything I can think of...I have restored the ipod multiple times, I have reformatted it, and I have looked all over the forums for oter suggestions and nothing has worked.
Wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions?

okay for 1 you have to upload the songs to your itunes then drag them to your ipod and that goes for your itunes songs.

  • ITunes does not recognize iPod (3rd gen?) even after trying everything...

I have searched and not found this exact problem on any of the forum pages. My computer (PC) recognizes my iPod as an external USB drive. It is completely charged up (from the AC power). No error messages. Screen shows the "updating - do not disconnect symbol" constantly while docked but the pod does not show up in iTunes at all. I can get the main screen (menu) page by disconnecting the USB device through Windows, but when I try to select any of my data on the pod it shows nothing downloaded on the device. I've tried everything in the support section (most recent version of iTunes, checked that iPod service is running, reinstalled the COM interface for iPod service, deleted and reinstalled iTunes, etc. As a final resort, I "restored" the pod to factory settings using iPod Updater, but no joy...To say I'm unhappy is putting it mildly. Any suggestions before I jump out a window or something????

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen suddenly freezes PC and I've tried everything, Help!

In the past few days, my iPod Shuffle 2nd generation suddenly started to freeze my computer moments after it syncs new music onto it or is plugged in for awhile. I've tried everything to find out why it's begun doing this. Here's what I've tried:
    - I recently updated to iTunes 9 around the time it began freezing, and thought maybe that was the problem. I completely uninstalled it and installed an older version. Didn't work.
    - I reformatted and reset my iPod to factory settings. Didn't work.
    - I've done many complete virus scans on my PC. It didn't find anything.
    - I've synced the iPod with another PC to see if it would freeze it. It didn't and works fine elsewhere, leading me to believe there's some software issue going on.
I've checked many forums and read many stories about similar issues but nobody has a concrete answer. I don't have a free Customer Service call left with Apple. Any body have any ideas?
    My computer stats:
    - Windows Vista
    - Plenty of free space
    - HP Pavillion notebook
    - iPod Shuffle 2nd gen
    - Currently using iTunes v. 8.2

Still no solution here, even with the help from Apple's tech support team. The first person I spoke with was the most helpful in knowing about this issue. He guided me on how to cleanly uninstall iTunes (all 6 components) and then reinstall. He said the Apple Mobile Device Support Assistant has been causing issues when updating and sure enough, I looked at the date when I updated to the latest iTunes, it was the exact date when my computer began having the freezing issue. Unfortunately, this didn't work. I completely uninstalled the iTunes again, and tried installing an older version. Didn't work.
I called Apple tech again today, and the person felt there was a conflict issue with other programs, so he sent me a guide on how to use msconfig to figure out which program could be doing that. Again, that option didn't work and iTunes froze again.
I really, really, really agree with the first Apple tech support person I spoke with that iTunes' latest version is the issue. It's no coincidence that the problem began right after the update occurred, but now I'm left with two iPod devices rendered completely useless since whatever was installed onto my PC in the latest iTunes has glitched up the system.

After I updated itunes to version 7 and updated my ipod software, my ipod now freezes. I try resetting it...and it just freezes everytime. Ive also tried using someone elses computer...I was able to load a friend's playlist to my ipod, and then it loaded mine when I plugged it back into my PC. It gives me error 1418 when I try to restore. I am also unable to format it from Windows. I have tried letting the bat go dead..still no go. I also tried charging it to max and...nope. and of course I tried the 5Rs recommended. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

I have a 6GB ipod that freezes only when I try to play the music purchased from itunes. It has no problems playing the music I downloaded onto my computer and transferred to my ipod. Also, it only does this when I dock it onto an external docking station with speakers..I have 2 different types/brands (one is a Bose docking station) and it does it with both. I have to keep resetting it to continue playing. Its annoying!!! and yes I've tried all 5 R's before, several times to no avail.

  • How to play music from iPod through Windows Media Player

I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence .... but just in case anyone hasn't yet figured it out, here's how to play music from your iPod on a computer that does not have iTunes installed:
On your computer, connect the iPod to iTunes and click on it's name. Then under the general tab, check "allow disk use". Your iPod will then act as a USB hard drive and will then show up as a drive in My Computer. Now all you need to do is to create a Music folder on it and then copy all your music to it!
Your iPod's USB hard drive should show up under My Computer on most Windows computers. Therefore providing the computer has Windows Media Player installed, you will be able to play all your music on it! This saves you having to bother with portable/travel speakers, some of which sound terrible anyway!

  • Need help reformating Ipod! Driving us crazy! TRIED EVERYTHING!

Hey everyone well my friend has an Ipod and it recently just stopped working, and it would have the sad Ipod icon or the folder with an exclamation point. He lost the USB cord but does have the FireWire cord, and his laptop did not have the FireWire port so mine does so that is why I'm trying to fix it. But when I plug it into my firewire windows seems to recognized it, then it disappears. I switched between the ports. The one it worked and the one as I said it would work the dissapear. The one that did work, I would try using that ipod updater software and when I started using it it would say "Can't mount" or whatever.
We've tried getting it into disk mode, which has failed and so we're baisctly stuck
    Anyone have any help?
    Its a 20GB Ipod Photo

    Hi,
There are couples of problems here, you must deal with the "can't mount iPod" first.
Plug your iPod with your PC via the firewire cable, open my computer folder, and check the iPod drive no. If possible change it to something larger i.e. "M", "N" or "Y". Reboot your PC, open the iPod updater and plug the iPod back, and wait for few minutes, hope it will allow you to do the Restore.
If does not work, then read the following for the Sad iPod
    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.
