I Chat Streaming questions???

Hello,
So I've downloaded iChat Stream and I can open an animated gif (which works in AIM) but now I can't save, it's not highlighted on top?
My animation does work in iChat BUT theres a red cross through it? And do I have to keep iChat Stream open while I'm in iChat to keep the animation animating?
Will registering and paying $5 solve all these problems?
thank you
G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi Rovert,
iChat Streaming Icon runs as a trial for a few secs and the the red cross appears.
The only way to resolve this is to pay the money (or wait for Leopard which might have it).

    Shared photo stream questions
    Camera Roll (CR), Photo Stream (PS)
    If I create a shared PS and share it with a friend, is this temporary like the main PS (most recent 1000 images)?
    For example, if I put one photo in a shared PS and then take 1000 new photos (but I don't add it to the shared PS), presumably it will disappear from my main PS, but will the original photo disappear from the shared PS, too?
    I noticed that each month I have a new monthly event titled, for example, "August photo stream", etc. Are these temporary, too? If I take 1000 photos in September, will the August PS event start to lose images, or will this only occur in the main PS section?
    Apple's web site says "iCloud stores new photos for 30 days, so you have plenty of time to connect your iOS device to Wi-Fi and make sure you always have your most recent shots handy." What does this mean? If I take a photo on iPhone it's permanently in CR (until I sync with iTunes on OS X and then iPhoto offers to remove them from CR), but they're also in PS, which is temporary, right? If so, as long as CR is permanent, how big an issue is the 30 day rule?
    Here's where I'm (further) confused...
    On iPad, my PS section (the tab on bottom) only has 30, relatively recent photos. Each photo was taken with iPhone.
    However, on iPhone, my PS section has 547 images. Some of these were taken as screen shots from iPad (even though they're not on iPad's PS??) Some of the images were "Save As... "  image files from OS X, some were photos imported to desktop iPhoto from a camera. Many of the images were taken years ago. On desktop iPhoto, I have over 3000 images, but the images on iPhone's PS do not appear to be the most recent 1000 images imported to iPhoto.
    So why did iPad's screen shots disappear from iPads PS yet appear on iPhone's PS?
    Why aren't the two iOS device's PS sections the same?
    Is this confusing to everyone, or am I just dense?
    Thanks!

    You are most likely using the same apple id under settings>iCloud. If you just want to stop the photo sharing you can open settings>iCloud and turn off photostream. If you want to keep using photostream and still not share you need to set up an alternate apple id to use under settings>icloud

  • ITunes, Apple TV and Time Capsule streaming questions

    I have a question about how to handle an Apple Tv with my new Time Capsule setup.
    Setup is as follows
    Macbook with 29g iTunes library, mostly music and purchased iTunes Music Videos. Some movies converted via Handbreak. All of that synced to my 160g ATV.
    Time Capsule with 300g of movies converted via Handbreak.
    Macbook Pro that has the movies on the TC as it's library, shared to stream to the Apple TV.
    I am connected with the Macbook by G, the Macbook Pro by N, the Time capsule by N. assume that the Macbook is off, so that everything is N.
    If I stream a movie, does the path go Macbook pro reads time capsule, time capsule sends the data to the MPB, and then the MPB streams to the ATV?
    Or, does the ATV read the path of the music on the TC, and stream it direct from there?
    I tried to play an online game (World of Warcraft) while watching a movie on the ATV that is on the TC that hitched / studdered / buffered like crazy.
    I want to eventually set up 2 ATVs both reading the media on the TC to stream. From the looks of things now, I wont be able to stream 2 at the same time, and definately not while playing online.
    I know there are a lot of threads out there about iTunes and wht not, i've read them and did my best... but i'm not a pro at networking. Not sure if I have settings wrong, or can improve something, or if i have just bad luck
    Any and all info, with the Idiots Guid explanation, is appreciated
    Thanks

    Update .... fixed this problem. 3 words:
    LINE OF SIGHT
    I had full signal on both my Laptop and my ATV before the fix. I figured with my tiny 900 sq foot home with the TC no more than 30 feet unobstructed from the ATV and Laptop that I would be fine since the signal was full.
    However, on a whim i moved the LAPTOP into the room with the TC and streamed to the ATV... and it worked FLAWLESSLY. I then logged on my online game, and it still worked flawlessly. I then opened Ventrillo (basically VOIP program to chat w people) ands till streamed flawlessly. I then opened up Adium and loaded Yahoo/AIM and it was still streaming fine.
    I then moved the laptop back into the next room, and it instantly hung.
    So i picked up the Time Capsule that was on a desk next to a wooden box that i use to store CDs in, and put it on top of the box. I then reloaded everything and streamed with laptop back int he next room and it was perfect. I was able to have all the above open AND surf the web (so we are not talking a DECENT amount of traffic on the same laptop that streams the movie to the ATV) and it was fine. I did notice a 1-2 second video hitch (not audio and no rebuffering) whenever I opened a website that had more than 40 photos on it or any video... i guess that coupled with the game, VOIP and IM software was too much traffic.
    So, I am happy to annouce that i have no problems streaming itunes or streaming movies from the time capsule to my apple tv. i am so happy. I was prepared to go and buy a mac mini and wire that and the apple tv to the tc. Instead, I am probably going to buy a second ATV for the bedroom.

  • Photo streaming question

    I'm not sure where this question ought to be posted, so I apologize if its the wrong section.
    In anycase, I wish to know how to erase a photo on photo streaming.
    Thanks!

    To get the photos on another devices you either have to share them or both have to be using the same iCloud account.
    What do you think share means?

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and SWF Chat Room Question

    I am installing a chat room and using a black HTML page to put it on as I want to have a certain background.and its a SWF file. I tried the play button but
    nothing happens. I followed the directions from this site called:  "Insert and Preview SWF Files."
    I do have Adobe Flash 10 installed.  The gray placeholder is there and I do have the two dependent files as well.  Do I have to upload this to my server before I can test it and see if all is working properly. I can send the original zipped file to you if you want to see what i have.  I was also playing around with it at first before I got the article ("Insert and Preview SWF Files.") and when i copied all the code from a number of different files it was all showing up but still did not work. The directions for the software give you a link to my files to put in and thats it and say to upload to my server.
    Please let me know and if you need the software Let me know an email to send it to you. I dont see an "attach file" button in here.

    Hi there,
    better post your question in the regular Dreamweaver General Discussions forum. The current forum deals with questions which are related to the Dreamweaver extension ADDT, which generates server-side code and has been discontinued over a year ago, that is, the number of fellow forum participants is much larger in the regular Dreamweaver forums.
    Cheers,

  • "Enable Streaming" question

    When using QT7 to export video to MP4 format, under the options button there is a Streaming tab. My question is - what is the benefit of selecting "Enable streaming" under this tab?
    An example of when you should and shouldn't utilize this option would be great too.
    Thanks!

    I've never used QTSS so I don't know about the protocols.
    I can't imaging serving a large file from an iBook G3 but I suppose it could be done. One viewer at a time and lots of buffering will probably happen.
    First question is the current format of the file. When you say "large" what exactly does that mean? Did you add the required hint tracks to the file?
    You would open the link by opening QT Player and then use the "Open URL" feature.
    The address to the file would begin rtsp:// and include your machine's IP address and then the folder and file names all the way down to somemovie.mov
    A "large" movie probably has a data rate that will exceed your upload bandwidth. It is typically one third of your download speed so even if you were using a 5MB cable connection you would only be serving at about 1.6MB per second. Many cable companies also set lower limits and some even block your computer from being used as a server.
    You may be better served by using a .Mac account and its Public folder or a custom html page to display your file.

  • A (hopefully) simple video chat connection question

    Hey all. This forum is quite helpful - thanks.
    My question is:
    I am in Texas, my boss is in Montana. We both have 10.4.3 and supposedly broadband connections. We have been unable to make a video iChat connection. Each of us, independently, can connect with the test user, appleu3test03, but we cannot connect with each other. We get what seems to be a standard error message, that the invitation to chat was declined or not responded to (when we know that is not in fact the case).
    Since we can connect with the test user, is it safe to assume that our problem is not related to routers and firewalls and NAT and ports, or should I still endeavor to talk him through configuring his router up in Montana?
    Thanks again for the help. I hate to make another post on a common problem, but I could not find an answer to this specific question on the forum.
    PB 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    An Update:
    Tony was kind enough to help us diagnose. Both my boss and I could independently video chat with Tony. Also, with Tony hosting, we participated in a three-way video chat. All seemed great. However, my boss and I still cannot video chat with each other, no matter who initiates the chat.
    Tony suggested a router issue; the firmware on my end is up-to-date. We're checking with the Boss's system, but as his router is new I'm not hopeful that a firmware update will fix things. I would think that if our problem had to do with firewalls or ports or the like we would not have been able to do any chatting, but I do not know.
    So, if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate them. Our current theory is bandwidth-related. Both the boss and I can video chat with the test and with Tony. Both the test and Tony have large bandwidth on their respective ends. Assuming both my boss and I have marginal bandwidth, would it be possible that when conferencing with a large-bandwidth person everything works, but the marginal-to-marginal conference cannot cut it?
    Thanks again.

  • Microphone stream question

    How do i mute global sounds if my microphone is enabled by
    turning on my webcam in flash?
    I'm useing flash media server 2 to serve the stream.

    Hey @Tololino ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
    I understand you have some questions about the audio connection on your Stream 7 tablet.
    Could you please clarify what you mean by not working? Does sound continue you play from the internal speakers and record from the microphone when the headset is connected? Do the headphones work but the microphone doesn't? Could you please clarify this for me.
    The service guide for the Stream 7 series tablets lists the audio port as a "headphone/microphone combo jack, 3.5 mm." A 3.5mm connection should work fine.
    Is your headset detected in the audio playback and recording devices? To see these long press (right click) on the speaker icon to open playback or recording devices.
    If it's listed in here you may need to change the audio playback and recording device settings to use the headset instead of internal speakers or microphone.
    Thanks.

  • ITunes Match streaming question?

    I'm thinking about purchasing an itunesmatch subscription, but I have one question.
    I want to play songs on my iPhone, but I don't want any physical data to be stored on my phone.  There is very little space on my 16 GB iPhone 4S. When streaming songs, do I have to download them?  I have seen many debates over this issue.
    Thanks for your help!!!

    Hi,
    itunes is looking for the link to your library that is on your external hard drive. This is the reason for your issues.
    I suggest that you create a new itunes library for use whilst the external drive is not attached. Close iTunes then hold option key whilst reopening iTunes. Select craete new library, then turn on match, select add this computer. Once process is complete you will see you music that is in the cloud and you will be able to stream your music.
    When your ext drive is attached, hold option key when opening iTunes, select the original library.

  • M4A/Chapter Streaming - question from a professional radio station

    My name is Jason Wohlstadter and I run Proton Radio (www.protonradio.com).
    We've been broadcasting into Quicktime via Shoutcast for the past four years in MP3 format. We'd like to start broadcasting in m4a format to utilize the awesome Chapter Tool that Apple released, which would allow us to specify what tracks are playing in the large 2-3 hour solid DJ mixes we air.
    My question: Is it possible for the chapters to be utilized in a stream? They work fine in a download medium like a Podcast, but when we tried opening the .m4a files via a stream the additional meta data was not displayed.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

    A lot of radio stations make it difficult to listen to their live stream in anything but a web browser.
    Rogue Amoeba have an app called Airfoil which allows you to take audio from any application and redirect it to Airtunes on Airport Expresses, Apple TVs and other computers.

  • Flex Mobile iOS app, and http live video streaming Question.

    I have subbmitted our app (which is mostly a video playing app) to apple only to have it rejected because of the" 9.4: Video streaming content over a cellular network longer than 10 minutes must use HTTP Live and include a baseline 64 kbps audio-only HTTP Live stream" reason.  I was doing progressive download of the files, but now it looks like we will need to re-encode all of our media, which will probably take months and months.
    My question is this:  We currently use Akamai as our current CDN, with thier HD Flash delivery system.  Their HD Flash is built to do dynamic bitrate streaming simmilar to Apple's HTTP Live.  If we re-encode our video to milti-bitrate and use the Akamai technology to do the adaptive streaming will this be good enough for Apple, or will we infact need to use their HTTP Live protocol.  Has anyone encountered this problem, or have any experience?  I would like to know before we re-encode all of our media only to find out that we will be forced to use Apples stuff instead.  Any help is much appreciated!

    Unless I am mistaken here, you must implement Apple's HTTP Live protocol for streams over ten minutes in length. There is a few options you can take:
    1. Split your streams into 9 minute segments and feed them consecutively in groups. (Apple actually offers a segmenting tool that even generates an index file via there Developer tools)
    2. Only enable full length streaming over WiFi
    3. Fully implement HTTP Live....
    Also, do not forgot that not only are you going to have to implement HTTP Live but you are going to have to ALSO include an audio only stream.

  • PrintWriter Stream Question

    I have a multi-threaded java program. I have one master log that all of the programs write to.
    Each Thread has it's own print writer but when it's created takes the argument from the main program.
    So main program:
    PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter (new FileWriter("mylog"));
    Then when it creates new thread it passes the PrintWriter:
    MyThread t = new MyThread(out);
    The Thread has it's own PrintWriter Object which is created with the out that was passed as an argument.
    PrintWriter thread_out = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(out_arg));
    My question is:
    If the main program fails or one thread fails and thus closes it's PrintWriter Stream, will that affect the other threads' ?
    I guess I'm wondering if each Thread's PrintWriter is independant (creates it's own copy) or it's actually using the exact same PrintWriter.

    Unless the thread is explicitly closing the PrintWriter when it terminates, the underlying Writer (in this case the FileWriter) should stay open. It sounds like you're concerned that when the PrintWriter goes out of scope the finalize method will be called which will close the underlying writer. I don't think that this is the case. Furthermore, as long as other threads' PrintWriters are accessing the FileWriter, the FileWriter's finalize method won't get called, so it should stay open. Lastly, I don't think the FileWriter's finalize calls close( ) anyway, as I've had some open files (and lost buffer data) after program crashes.
    I would, however, recommend a different approach. Create a singleton class called Log like this:
    public class Log
       protected static String filename = null;
       protected static PrintWriter out = null;
       public static void init( String aFilename )
          this.filename = aFilename;
       public static PrintWriter getOut( )
           synchronize( this )
              if( (this.out == null) && (this.filename != null) )
                 this.out = new PrintWriter( new FileWriter( this.filename ) );
           return( this.out );
       public static void close( )
          if( this.out != null )
              try { this.out.close( ); } catch( Throwable t ) { }
    }In your main class, call Log.init( ) to set the filename. Then in your threads, call this.out = Log.getOut( ) to initialize each threads PrintWriter and write to the log as normal. Since the log is a static singleton outside of the scope of the individual threads you won't have to worry about it being closed until the close( ) method is called (by the main class).
    Hope that helps,
    - Jesse

  • RTP stream question

    Hello community, I have a question
    The setup is this, a cisco sccp phone is located in russia and registrated in a callmanager located in denmark. The phone dials a number that translate and use a routelist to a local gateway in russia. The dialed number in the local cisco gateway is a dialpeer with a siptrunk to a lync mediation server also located in denmark.
    How is the final rtp stream going to be from the cisco phone to the Lync server?
    Br. Kasper

    Hi. It actually all comes down to the reporting in Lync. The issue is that Lync reports "bad" conferance per Sip trunk. I want to make a more detailed design where I place a SIP trunk in every affilliate around europe in their local gateway, but as the phones are registrated in cucm cluster in denmark and the Lync mediation server(sip trunk connection to local gateway) also is located in denmark, I need a redesign of the rtp path including the MTP, that is why I want to put the MTP resource in the local affiliate gateway(this eksample russia) So by doing this the rtp path would be phone->local mtp->local vgw-siptrunk->Lync mediation in denmark. I just needed a secound thought on the design.
    The current setup would report all "bad" conferances as beeing in denmark, even if they are originated in other countries. The local dialpattern is just callcorwarded to the dk siptrunk->Lync mediation.The SIP trunk in cucm are limmited to only one connection to the Lync mediation server.

  • Expert Live Chat - More questions than answers?!

    Shall we dissect today's chat then?
    It sounded like an exciting idea. But I was left sorely disappointed.
    No plans to enable the best features of mediaroom - the ability to access it from your laptop, phone and xbox.
    Multi-room's something they're keen to offer in the future. (Wow - 4 years not long enough?!)
    No details on whether the vbox will remain mediaroom or change for YouView.
    No news on HD.
    No news on Live IPTV
    Overall I think it would be more beneficial if Cey just posted on the forum occasionally than we have a live chat. There was a fair amount of time wasted on regular forum type questions.

    Oh well. Glad I missed it then.
