I'd sure like to have iCal back. Any suggestions?

Earlier this week a number of threads were posted by those of us whose iCal suddenly began crashing a few seconds after it was launched. I haven't read any posts by anyone who seems to have solved the problem. I'm still hoping someone might have some suggestions.
I'm using a G4 with OS 10.4.11 to create my calendars and syncing an iTouch using MobleMe. The MM and iTouch calendars are intact. I was able to keep iCal open long enough to create a recent backup.
I'd like to try these instructions from MadisonP which I've read in answer to several other questions about restoring iCal:
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
But I have some questions:
Do I remove the entire "Caches" folder from my "Library" folder? Or should only the "com.apple.iCal" folder be deleted? There are dozens of other folders in the Caches folder from various applications.
My Home > Library > Calendars folder is empty--no Calendar Cache, Cache, or Cache 1,2,3. . . Should there be something there to remove?
I all else fails, I'd like to delete iCal and reinstall it, then use MM or my backup to restore it. But I'm not sure how to reinstall just that application. Any help with that would be appreciated. Thanks.

__The Caches folder is a dumping ground for temporary files used by pretty much every program on the computer. When you remove that folder and then restart your computer that folder is re-generated automatically. As you launch each program they will generate a new cache file for their use. There is no harm done by removing the entire caches folder. If you like you can selectively remove the caches pertaining to iCal, HOWEVER, there may be caches within the Caches folder not labeled "iCal" that still are used by iCal. I pull the whole folder to save guess work as it is non-distructive. That said don't go pulling the Caches for fun. They allow the various programs on the computer to run faster. After pulling Caches some programs will launch more slowly the first time. They will be back to normal on subsequent launches. Only pull the Caches folder when you are having issues...like now
My Home > Library > Calendars folder is empty--no Calendar Cache, Cache, or Cache 1,2,3. . . Should there be something there to remove?
Your running 10.4...you shouldn't have a Home > Library > Calendars folder at all as a matter of fact. In 10.4 and earlier the iCal database was stored in Home > Library > ApplicationSupport > iCal.
Not sure where that "Calendar" folder came from but it is not part of iCal if you are indeed running 10.4.11.
Check out Home > Library > ApplicationSupport > iCal. I don't recall if there was a cache file in iCal under 10.4. If there is one here you can remove it. Otherwise don't remove anything from this directory.

Before going through the trouble of reinstalling the program make sure it is actually the program at fault. If you login as a new user on the computer, does iCal work? If so then the iCal program is fine. There is something in your user account that is causing iCal to malfunction.
Let me know if following those steps you mentioned takes care of it...or if not
Cheers.

    4mccarthys,
If you are certain that iCal is no longer present on your computer...
    To reinstall iCal:
    1. Insert the Leopard Installation disk into the computer.
    2. The disk will appear on the desktop.
    3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
    4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
    5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
    6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
    7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
    9. Select (✓) iCal.
    10. Click (Continue).
    11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

I hear you, I do.  But the problem is that with my Mac, I have to stop and postpone whatever project I am working on while the backup occurs.  It just slows down my computer.
Then something is wrong with your backups.  Changing the interval will only deal with they symptoms, not the actual problem, and you won't be as well protected as with hourly backups.
If the backups are much larger than they ought to be,  see #D4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
If the sizes are reasonable, but it seems to take too long, see #D2 there.

About 6 months ago I discovered iTunes was set by default to 720p. These MUST BE CHANGED TO 1080P!!!!!!!!.......So I installed FULL 1080P file on my laptop on iTunes...  When I download movies on iPhone 5s/iPad mini the file is 720p So within about 60 seconds of starting download of 1080p files into my laptop of iTunes purchases. It was at that moment that I realized it was that file my laptop has on file to sync to my Apple device...Ten minutes later when the first 1080P HD file was downloaded  I must say... The resolution is amazing... I now use this same process to install movie files from iTunes.. In FULL 1080P.. Not 720P... Works on my iPad mini also... Avatar is 5.4 GB if installed over Wi-Fi... However sync with laptop and file is 6.5 GB in size... Called Apple told them... No reply yet.... You must delete 720P files from your laptop... Look for file size in any movie purchase and you will see DOWNLOAD IN 1080P.. This will open preferences in iTunes for you to the correct tab so you can change setting to 1080p from default of 720p... DELETE any downloaded movies already downloaded into laptop... You can check file quality by right click on any movie folder and the look at movie info... Will say 720p HD... Delete to recycle bin and iCloud will appear on each movie... Now download 1080P HD file... When completed. Right click any file to verify it is 1080P HD... The sync with device...... And get ready to be upset with Apple for holding back your device for the last 2 years 3 months and 16 days......And be ready to catch your jaw from hitting the floor when you see your screen in full 1080P HD.... Apple Engineer's were asleep.....
You will notice better pic quality... Apple by default is still sending the 720P file to the new iPhone 6 plus over wifi and sync.. howve this process above will give you full HD file for your Apple device...

AXT fonts don't work well in new versions of InDesign. Your best bet would be to replace the font with a Unicode compliant OpenType font. I believe there are a few Arabic fonts that are included with InDesign that would work.

It does seem rather odd that an app that was acquired thru itunes would quit working once it was incorporated into the device for all users. oh well it was probably free or $.99 when I downloaded it.
I would think that they were just testing it to see how many people would use it.  But you might want to write a polite letter to Apple requesting a credit for the purchase price of the no longer supported app.  That seems to be the least they could for one of their 'alpha testers'.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup.
In order to restore with the unknown Restrictions passcode you will likely have to place the iPod in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If we have the original ipad, how can you open a pdf in ibooks? The menu bar does not pop up like it does on the ipad2. Any suggestions?

Are you in Safari and you want to copy them to iBooks, or you in a different app ? Assuming that you are using Safari, then if I open a PDF on my first gen iPad in Safari and tap on it, I then get a pop-up bar at the top of it with the 'Open In' options.
