I deleted time capsule files that were old, but now they won't delete from the trash

I deleted some time capsule files from the drive I am using for time machine. It placed them in the trash, but it won't delete them. It is asking if I want to delete only locked files or if I want to delete all files. I have tried both, but they are still showing up in the trash. It won't remove them. Does anyone have any suggestions, as I do not know what else to do. By the way I tried holding the option key and clicking empty trash and that did not work either.

Are these files being used by Time Machine. If so, this is how to delete files from a Time Machine backup. You can not delete them using Finder. Mac 101: Time Machine
Deleting data from a Time Machine backup
To delete all backups of one or more items from a Time Machine backup, follow these steps:
Click the Time Machine icon on your Dock to enter the Time Machine restore interface.
Click on the item you would like to delete. Command-click to select multiple items.
Control-click (or right click) the highlighted item(s) and select "Delete All Backups of..." from the contextual menu, or select "Delete all backups of..." from the Action Item menu.
Authenticate with an administrator password when prompted.
Important: Do not use the Finder to move to the items to the Trash, or to move or delete items in your Time Machine backup repository. The folder containing your Time Machine backup repository is called "Backups.backupdb" and is located on the external disk or Time Capsule you have chosen in Time Machine preferences.

Thanks for the info. Since this is a cable modem, you will need to fully reset it so that it will associate correctly with the Time Capsule when it is reconnected.
I don't have the manual for your Ubee model handy, but most modems will reset if you power them down completely. That means pulling the power cord from the back of the device or unplugging from the wall. Leave the modem powered off at least 30 minutes...longer will not hurt a bit.
Next, perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule per this document:

After the modem has been powered down and Time Capsule has been reset, connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port (circle icon) on the Time Capsule.
Power up the modem and let it run for 2-3 minutes by itself
Then power up the Time Capsule and let it run a minute or two
Next, open AirPort Utility and configure the Time Capsule to "Create a wireless network". Let us know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC if you have additional questions or need more details on this.

When did yours come out? what does the above show as model and minimum build?
You should have yoru OEM OS X DVD, not one from another Mac, or retail, though the last retail OS X DVD was a year ago 10.6.3.
If it installed, I don't see an issue unless the drive had corrupt directory etc.
What you need to do is repair your boot drive or restore from backup.

Since you deleted the files on your Mac, Time Machine will eventually delete them automatically from the Time Capsule, so you really need do nothing.
If you really do want to delete the files right now, open Time Machine, wait for it to load and use the timeline on the right side of the window to go back to a date when the files were still on your Mac.
Use the Finder like interface to navigate to the specific file that you want to delete and click on it to highlight it
Click the gear icon at the top of Time Machine window and click "Delete all backups of xxxxxxxx"
Do the same for other files that you want to delete.
Click Cancel at the lower left of the window to return to your normal desktop

I installed a time capsule last week and backed up my HD using TM. After doing that, I started moving large movie files from my HD to an external drive, and backing up both the HD and external on the TC. Even though I have only 130 G worth of files in total, my TM is now nearing 400G, because it backed up several times during the process of transferring files. I tried to delete the TM backup, and even tried deleting everything on the TC using disk utility, but I can't get that memory back. I have not tried zeroing out the drive thru disk utility. How can I just wipe out the TC and start again?

You can reformat the hard disk in the Time Capsule.
Go to Airport Utility --> Manual Setup --> Disks --> Highlight "Time Capsule Disk" on the left --> Click "Erase" on the right.
Rename the disk and select the level secure erasure. You're done and ready to begin backing up again.

Storing and deleting time capsule files

After reviewing a number of posts it seems partitioning the time capsule is very difficult at best. If I am using it to back up my computer and wanting to save other files to it, what happens when the disk reaches capacity? Can you delete backup files to make room for other files or will that corrupt the retrieval?

Time Capsule is not intended for partitioning by Apple. If you need additional storage space, an additional HDD is best. However, you can delete back up files, but only do this via the Time Machine interface. Deleting files via Finder is asking for trouble.

I want to delete my backup files on my circa 2008 (1 TB) Time Capsule and start backing up fresh. I moved the sparsebundle to the trash, but it has been saying it is deleting for over 12 hours, and I continue to hear the Time Capsule working. Just for future reference and clarification, a Time Capsule is a piece of Apple hardware that combines a wireless router and HD.
Time Machine is Apple's backup software that's included with OSX. It can back up to a Time Capsule or various other destintations.
To erase a drive in your Mac Pro, you need to use Disk Utility. If it can't unmount it, that means something else is trying to use it. Turn Time Machine OFF, be sure the "Star Wars" display isn't looking at it, etc. You might have to exclude it from Spotlight indexing, via System Prefererences > Spotlight > Privacy.
If it still won't unmount, try Restarting your Mac, then immediately going in to Disk Utility to erase the disk.
If all else fails, start up from your Recovery HD (if you're running Lion) or OSX Install disc and use the copy of Disk Utility there. See the yellow box in #1 of Using Disk Utility.

Dead Time Capsule replaced by a refurb but now drops connection...

Hi Guys,
I took delivery of Apple's replacement for my dead TC with the fried PSU. Sadly it's only a refurb and I'm having problems maintaining a connection to it via my iMac. It's connected via Gbit ethernet and I can mount the TC and the USB back-up drive I have attached to it onto my desktop.
All I'm doing is trying to copy back all the files from the back-up to get the TC back to where it was before it died. So far I've been doing this for 24 hours as the two drives both keep disappearing from the desktop.
Is there something I can tweak to make these connect more reliably? If not Apple can have this back too. I just don't have time to continually troubleshoot Apple stuff right now.

If it's not working, just send it back to Apple. It should work out of the box.

Firefox wasn't opening websites when other programs were, so I uninstalled it but now it will not reinstall from the website.

Firefox wasn't able to connect to the internet, yet other browser programs were fine (IE, etc.) so I thought I"d uninstall Firefox and reinstall it from the website. I uninstalled it fine, but it will not download. It goes through all the steps of the download and setup from the website and appears to be installing in "program files," yet does not appear in the list of programs. It's just not there! What could the problem be? I'm running Windows 7 and McAfee.

Go into our program files folder and delete the Mozilla Firefox program folder. Then open msconfig and make sure that Firefox is unchecked from the Programs startup list, then open regedit and find the HKEY_LOCALUSER_SOFTWARE key and delete strings associated with Firefox. This process will require several re-boots, but once you're done you should be able to download and install Firefox without any troubles.

MacBook Pro 2011 - Migrated from MBP that had Flash but now it won't work

Does anyone else have a solution to this issue that does not involve doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard? There was another thread in this forum where the OP indicated that they did a fresh install of SL and that solved the issue. However, that solution is not acceptable to me.
I did a system migration from a Time Machine backup (from my old MBP which was also running 10.6.6) when I purchased my new 2011 MacBook Pro last week. All my applications seemed to be working normally until I attempted to watch a YouTube video in either Safari or Chrome. In both browsers, all I get is a black screen where the video should be playing.
I downloaded and installed the latest version of the Flash Player for Safari and I am not able to manually update the Flash Player for Chrome since that browser keeps the Flash Player up-to-date automatically. The black screen persists when attempting to watch a video on YouTube. I cleared the site cache for the Flash Player just in case something was buggy there, but the problems remains.
The last thing I tried was to remove Flash Player for Safari entirely by running the Adobe Flash Player Install Manager and choosing "Uninstall." I then re-installed Flash Player but the problem persists.
Finally, I am not running any third-party firewall software. When I right-click on a YouTube video, the menu says "Movie not loaded..."
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

For giggles, I decided to try to pull up a YouTube video on my wife's 2010 MBP. She hasn't been complaining that she was unable to load content. I was astonished to find that Safari on her laptop is exhibiting the same issues that mine is when going to YouTube in Chrome or Safari. . .black screen where the video should be.
I know I haven't changed any configurations on our router, so I doubted that was the culprit. I can't imagine that an ISP would block YouTube, of all things. To rule these things out, I went back to my laptop and tethered it to my 3G smartphone. Still, even using the cell network, YouTube videos are "blacked out."
Also, I run several VMs, so I tried loading YouTube in Chrome and IE in Windows 7 and they both exhibit the same problem. At this point, I'm dumbfounded that both mine and my wife's MacBook Pros have the same problem when connecting to different networks and the problems persist across OS'es.
Any other suggestions you can think of aside from making a trip to the Apple Store?

You remove them the same way you put them there. The sync process.
Deselect them in itunes and sync.

Works normally for me. The script that runs when you click the link will check to see if it already opened a window and try to switch to it, but if you are starting from scratch, this shouldn't be an issue.
There probably are quite a few add-ons that affect popup window behavior. To see whether an add-on could be responsible, you could test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, close Firefox, hold the Shift key, then restart Firefox. You will get a [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode dialog]. Just click "Continue in Safe Mode" and do not "reset" anything just yet.
If the window displays at the specified size in Safe Mode, one of your other add-ons (especially in the Extensions category) may be overriding it.
