I did not receive iWeb on my new MacBook Pro

I just bought a new 15" MacBook Pro, and one of the applications that I absolutely need on it is iWeb. When I decided to buy it the MacBook Pro page on Apple.com said that it came with iLife, iLife contains iWeb. I was shocked to look at the launchpad and not see iWeb or iDVD! Out of the two programs, iWeb is the most important for me to have as I am supposed to be building a website for a class.
I called AppleCare and they told me to pay $50 for a new iLife box set so that I can get the iWeb and iDVD applications. I am angry that in the course of an update they took away such an essensial app.
Does anybody know how to get any version of iWeb on to my computer?
If it helps at all I have a copy of iWeb '06 on my iMac that runs on Snow Leopord.
Please help!

Some users have complained at Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html and received a free boxed iLife 11.  You might also use this link: http://www.apple.com/contact/.
Here's some info on using iWeb after the MMe servers are taken offline next June 30th:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
Click to view full size
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
Apple has announced that iLife is now an unsupported product and those iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.  Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought. Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

    I have recently had to fire my web designer who was using iWeb.  Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the site to open in iWeb on my new MacBook Pro.  Is there a way?

    Firstly iWeb CAN'T IMPORT any kind of published html code as it has no import facility.  You can however add html code, javascript and css by selecting the html snippet and placing it on your page the entering the code in here and clicking on Apply.  You DO NOT create a shape as you say - you use the html snippet and place your code in there.
    There are not really a lot of ways in which you can write code - if you want to enter small amounts of code, then you would use an ordinary text editor to do this such as Text Edit on a Mac or Text Wrangler.  If you want to add code to iWeb like this, then you would either use the html snippet method in iWeb itself or you would have to publish the site to a local folder from iWeb and open the relevant html page with a text editor and add the additional code in this way and then publish.  However, if he decided to add the code with a text editor, then you would have to upload the pages directly to the server using an ftp client - if you try to upload the site directly from iWeb, all the extra code will be overwritten.
    As for checking whether the site was created using iWeb, all you need do is view the site in Safari and then click on View and then select View Source Code and it will tell you.
    Even thoough extra code was added to the site and he might well have done this by publishing to a local folder and adding the code with a text editor, he should still have the domain file for the site too.
    Ask again.  I'm sure that for adding quick code, most would not want to use programmes such as Dreamweaver, but a simple text editor will suffice.  As OT already said, if he claims that he does not have the domain.sites file, then try Flux 4 which is a web design programme and has full import facilities.  At least this way, if he just gives you the published version of the site, you have some way of opening it.
    You can download a free trial of Flux 4 and you can also purchase the full version from the Mac App Store if you decide you like it.

  • How do I transfer iweb site to new macbook pro?

    I used migration assistant to transfer from old macbook to new macbook pro. Both are using lion. When I open iWeb on the new computer it does not show my site. Both computers are connected by firewire, where do I find the files? This site is not published to mobile me, it is hosted by godaddy.
    thanks

    In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. Once you've unhidden the library it's a simple matter of copying the domain file from your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on the old Mac to the same folder on the new one.  You may have to create an iWeb folder on the new Mac if there is not one.
    For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
    Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
    do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
    You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
    WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Mac App Store not working - first day with new MacBook Pro

    Hi guys,
    I received a new MacBook Pro 13 inch with retina display today and have been working on it this evening but I have a problem: My app store won't open.
    It was fine earlier - I downloaded both textwrangler and notepad - but now, whenever I click on the icon in the dock it bounces for a few seconds before simply showing a blank screen.
    I have uninstalled my downloads from the day in the hope that it would prove to be a fix but nothing has happened. I live in the UK so it's too late for me to ring the store - it's past 10pm here - but I was hoping somebody could help me out!
    Also - My iTunes doesn't work - whenever I try to purchase an album or listen to any music an error message pops up reading 'an unknown error occurred.' I'm not sure if the two problems are linked...
    Any help will be greatly, and gladly, appreciated!

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • License not working after migrating to new MacBook Pro

    I migrated recently to a new MacBook Pro. Aperture is finding it hard to recognize my license from earlier MacBook Pro
    Aperture license shows blank. Asks for license. Does not accept my Aperture 2 or 3 license.
    Do I have to ?
    * Backup my data
    * Uninstall Aperture 3 that was migrated
    * Install Aperture 2 again
    * Put license
    * Apply Aperture 3 upgrade again
    * Open photo libraries to check compatibility
    Any recommended way of handling the license recognition with least hassle?
    Last working setup
    * MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.1 GHz
    * Snow Leopard 10.6.4
    * Aperture 2
    * Aperture 3 upgrade applied to Aperture 2
    Now
    * MacBook Pro i5 2.4GHz
    * Snow Leopard 10.6.4
    * Aperture 3 (Migrated from MBP2.1Ghz)
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I keep reading people state this, but I've migrated a bunch of times since first getting Aperture 1 (or whatever Apple called it). I just did a migration from a 15" MBP (Early 2009) to a brand spanking new 17" MBP i7. Aperture 2 is working perfectly. I'm not bragging or anything, because if something is going to go wrong, it will go wrong with me. Yet, I haven't had any issues with any migration and "Pro apps" including moving iMacs to iMacs, iMacs to MBP, MBP to iMacs, etc etc.
    Now I'm paranoid that Aperture is going to blow up on me next week!

  • What can I do to make sure all my information (Notes Included) transfers to my new MacBook Pro when connecting for the first time?

    I am about to connecting my Iphone to my new Macbook Pro for the first time. I just want to make sure that all my information: contacts, messages, notes, everything will still be on my phone. I just dont want to connect then find out I lost everything on my phone.
    Help! I am really bad with technology...

    When you first sync with a new iTunes library iTunes will delete any iTunes media from your phone and replace it with the media in the library being synced with.  iTunes media includes things like apps, music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, books, custom ringtones and photos synced to your phone from a computer.  If you are also syncing your contacts and calendars with your computer it will replace the ones on your phone with those on your computer.  If your iTunes library, contacts, calendars and iPhoto are all empty, you will end up with all of these being empty on your phone.
    To preserve these you need to follow the steps in the linked article.  This will transfer purchased media from your phone to your iTunes library and transfer contacts and calendar entries to your Mac.  As discussed in the guide, it will not transfer music not purchased from the iTunes store (which can only be done using 3rd party software such as the ones discussed) or photos synced to your phone from another computer (which can be transferred to your computer using an app like PhotoSync).  These will need to done first or you will lose them, as discussed in the guide.

  • USB not powering external drive on new macbook pro

    My new macbook pro retina display is not powering an external 750GB GDrive moblie. Is anyone having this problem?

    It seems as if a number of people are having problems with the USB 3.0 ports on the 2012 MBP's - particularly when it comes to external storage devices.
    As you  don't have a FW800 port (or, yet, an adapter) the best thing you can do is either return it to your local Apple Store and see if they know of a 'fix' (which I doubt - someone would have posted that by now), whether it's only occurring with some MBP models, and you can always file a bug report with Apple: https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/wa/signIn - you must sign in with your Apple ID.
    Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there have been quite a few people posting here with the same problem.

  • Leopard not installing as expected on new MacBook Pro

    I'm helping a friend set up a new 15inch MacBook Pro that she received for Christmas. It came with Tiger installed and a Leopard installation disc in the box. My (admittedly limited) experience with my Macs has been that the pre-installed OS usually has a whole lot of stuff (languages, apps. etc.) that I don't need so, instead of doing an Upgrade install I choose the Erase and Install option. However, this has been when I have upgraded my Macs that came with one OS to the next OS using a retail version of the new OS.
    I opted to go the Erase and Install route with the (supplied) Leopard disc, however, it did not give me the option to select which components to install and simply proceeded to install everything - exactly what I did not want!
    Have I missed something here or is there a difference between the supplied Leopard install disc and the retail disc? Partly answering my own question - there must be some differences because her supplied Leopard install disc has some (maybe all) of the iLife 08 apps included.
    Can anyone advise me whether I could use my retail Leopard install disc to re-install on her MacBook Pro (I bought a 'family' disc and have so far only installed it on my iMac because my husband decided he wants to stick with Tiger on his Mac Mini and the G4 PowerBook.)
    Any advice would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Tricia

    From what I understand, there is a definite difference although I do not know what it is. So I don't really know about what the upgrade disc does. But I am surprised it gave you no options. Did it have anything you could print out like the "Mac OS X v. 10.5 Leopard Installation and Setup Guide" that comes with the full retail version?
    As for doing an erase and custom install with the full retail version, yes you can do that. My MBP came with Tiger and I later installed Leopard with an erase and install and left out all the printer drivers and languages I would never use. I then had to reinstall iLife 08 and the other bundled applications from the Tiger install discs.
    The real problem is that your friend needs her own set of discs for troubleshooting etc. I don't know if it's permissible for you to make her a copy of the Leopard Retail disc, but maybe you could since you did buy the family pack.
    There should be some way to do what you want with her discs--it may be worth printing out whatever information there is and reading it closely and see if something is possible. I do know that the "options" box on my copy of Leopard was so subtle that I missed it the first time. It appears on the "select a destination" page in the lower left corner.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck!

  • Why can't i find iWeb on my new MacBook Pro

    I have a new and completly updated MacBook Pro with OS X version 10.8.2, but i can't find iWeb in my system. How come? And where can I find it? Maybe download iWeb elsewhere?

    iWeb, along with iDVD, was discontinued by Apple from before Lion was released.  If you have the disks that came with your previous Mac you can use the disks that came with it to install iWeb.  Or if you have your previous Mac you can just copy iWeb from it to your new Mac.
    Be warned that iWeb 2 does not play well with Mt. Lion.  iWeb 3, however, works fine with Mt. Lion.  If you didn't have iWeb 3 previously you can get it by purchasing iLife 11 or 09 from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: iLife 11 or eBay.com.
    The following will help you launch your website in iWeb the first time:
    In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
    do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
    You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
    Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
    WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Sampled Sounds "Not Found" After Move to New MacBook Pro

    Hello All,
        I moved my Logic 9.7.1 from my old MacBook Pro to my new one via Migration assistant; both are running Lion. A smooth transition in all programs with all files showing in the same folders on both. I key in both my Logic 8 and Logic 9 serial numbers.
       The problem is when I use certain software instrument patches on my new Mac and I get a prompt saying the audio file can't be found. I click the "search again" tab and keep getting the same meaasage. My only option is to click "continue" the channel strip loads but there is no audio. This seems to be totally random; most sounds load but i would say about 10% don't.
        I go to Library>application support>logic>sampler Instruments> and the files are there! I manually place a copy in my project inside the sampler instruments folder but it still does not see it. I notice that it does not make a folder for it in the samples folder of my project. All the sounds that work have a folder in the samples folder.
       It's frustrating. I can see the file but Logic can't find it...........What shall I do?
    Jimmy Maddox

    Hi Jimmy,
    I found I had the same problem going from a 2006 iMac to a new Mac Mini (I had used Migration Assistant and pulled all the files from a Time Machine backup - this was Mo/Tu this week).
    I went back to the old iMac and found the bulk of missing samples in (something like) Library>application support>Garageband>...Sampler?Samples? (I will check the details and be more specific later today (currently on a work's Mac with no iLife). Anyhow, the key thing is 13+gigs of samples where held under that folder structure & not under Logic. I checked this am and everything is now working fine (the first time I changed patches on the ESX24 there was a 2 mins or so delay (spinning beachball etc) however it then popped up fine & after that switches patches with no extended pause)
    I hope that helps,
    Best,
    David

  • Mail not opening after migration to new macbook pro

    Hello all,
    I recently transferred all of my files using migration assistant from a powerbook G4 to a Macbook Pro and now mail will not open. It will show up in the bar underneath the screen but it won't display anything and it won't quit. Anyone have any solutions?

    Simple. Move the ~/Library/Mail folder out and back in. Read the thread for the specific order. It's easy and save me tons of heartache.

  • Fcp7 will not load on to my new macbook pro with mavericks

    I am trying to move Final Cut Studio from my old macbook pro to my 17" macbook pro i7.  It prompts me to add the serial number and then it says that the serial number is invalid.  Is there a problem this program and the Mavericks OS?

    How are you trying to install FCP? You can't just copy it, Pro Apps need to be installed to work.
    When you got your original computer with the pre-installed FCP-7 weren't there discs included?
    You would be best served to install from them.
    Also, if you are running FCP-X there are specific installation guidelines to have both FCP-7 and FCP-X installed on the same computer:

  • I can not use Netflix on my NEW Macbook Pro

    Is anyone else frustrated with multiple attempts to watch films on Netflix. I just purchased a Macbook Pro with Retina, one of the reasons was so I could watch films through Netflix.

    What exactly happens when you try to watch a film?
    Every time Netflix breaks for me it is because I need to fiddle with Silverlight, which in typical Microsoft fashion, is always breaking and is slightly difficult to fix.  Try to reinstall (from MS website) the silverlight application.
