Leaving you without a computer for 45 days isn't acceptable. Call Apple and ask for a loaner or replacement. Some people have been receiving them.
If you still have no luck, then consider getting a USB 3.0 HDD and installing and running OS X on it until the replacement part is in.

Don't want jobs with a past date to run on Database import

I can't get a good straight answer from our DBA on how to accomplish what I need. Here is the scenario...
I have a number of scheduled jobs in our Oracle 9i installation that run each night from 12:00 a.m. on. Over the past few months we have had some infrastructure issues that caused corruption in the Oracle databases and necessitated a restore from backup. Sometimes a full import from a dmp file. My problem is that if the database had been down before and after the scheduled jobs Oracle sees that there is a job that needed to be run in the past but has not yet run. So, when the database is brought back up all of those latent jobs run immediately.
The problem is that I don't want them to run when the database is recovered and need to control this process manually.
What is the best way to bring Oracle back up and flag it to not run any jobs that were scheduled in the past?

Easy.
Set job_queue_processes to 0 before doing the import. After the import, delete jobs you don't want (or change their next run date using dbms_job). Then set job_queue_processes back to the value you want.
The fact that the DBA team considers an export as a backup is probably the reason you couldn't get an answer to this simple question. That is a topic for another thread.

Itunes library on NAS upgrading computers don't want to lose music added to library via CDs help

Hello all,
I'm upgrading from an old Win XP machine to a Windows 8 machine. Complete iTunes library has already been transferred to a network drive (NAS) and is accessible to both machines via Home Sharing. I want to remove the XP machine from the mix but I'm afraid I will no longer be able to access any music that was added to my library from CDs and not the iTunes Store. What can I do to ensure I can acces the entire library and begin to sync my iPods, iPhones, etc. via the Windows 8 machine (after removing the old XP machine) - exactly like I did before. Somebody help a brother out here... thanks!

Don't want AIR with Reader

Has anybody been able to perform an installion of Reader 9.1 WITHOUT Air? I have the distribution copy of Reader and I can't figure out how to do it. I've even deleted the related AIR files in the setup directory but it STILL installs.
I've tried using both ORCA and the Customization Wizard but neither was any help.

I used the smaller executable. I have no idea what the large executable includes. It's twice the size!
After I installed the executable, I go to c:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Setup Files
I use the files in that directory to distribute on my network.

Wanted: help with creating overlapping arc selections

I use Elements 6, make album pages, and want to replicate a design I have seen. There is a background image. Around the edges are several overlapping arcs which "frame" the image. Each arc has a white stroke outline and is a different color (obviously pulled from the background image). The interesting thing is that where two arcs overlap the stroke outlines of both arcs are still visible, and also the section within the overlap has a third color. My questions are:
1. How do I create the arcs in the first place? I tried extending the canvas, creating ellipses and moving parts of them over the edge of the background image. This worked for the first arc, but Elements balked at doing more! Should I create arcs on separate files and move them over?
2. Once I have two arcs overlapping on a page, how do I retain visibility of both their stroke outlines? And how do I select the overlapped area in order to recolor it? How do I make different layers opaque and transparent at the same time, and only show the parts I want visible? What tool(s) do I use?
Does anyone know? Or is this something too advanced for Elements? Thanks. MH1071

You could use the ellipse shape tool to make the arcs. Drag out an ellipse shape; arching the top to taste. Click on the subtract from shape icon in the options bar and use the ellipse tool again to cut the ellipse.
Use a clipping mask to clip your image to the shape. See this link:

For the outlines, each shape and use the stroke command (edit<Stroke) to stroke each shape. Note: Stroke will not be included in the clipping group...put it in a blank layer above the clipping group. (On PC, Ctrl click the shape thumbnail will select the shape.) To get the strokes the way you want, you may have to experiment with their position in the layer stack.
For the solid colors, you can clip solid fill adjustment layers to the shapes. This is nice because it makes experimenting with color very easy. Just double click the color fill to bring up color picker and swap out color.
Here's an example of what I mean. My layers palette UI will look different as I did this using Photoshop. Everything done however, would be done exactly the same way in Elements.
Edit: For the olive green solid color fills, I used selections of the arc shape to mask the area I wanted blocked in with a solid color. (Use black paint to hide color; white paint to show color) This is why it isn't in a clipping group. (You could but I didn't in the above example.

But when I try to create one it dies with the error message:

UPDATE: Downloaded update and that fixed things.
However, turns out my NFR of CS6 Production Premium doesn't allow me to use Story.
And here all I wanted to to do try out the transcription features of Premiere Pro.
Without a script it's complete gobbledygook. Would like to try it with a script but it appears I need Story to convert my PDF to Adobe Story format.
Oh well.

But I believe the country cannot be changed in your profile; most likely they will tell you to temporarily create a new profile with your current country.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

What should i do to activate the badi?If i activate the badi will i get the require sub screen?Do i need to write any additonal code?

Go to transaction SE18 and display the BAdI definition. Read the documentation which will explain what this BAdI does and even tell you how to create an implementation and where do you find additional help/documentation regarding BAdIs.
There is also a sample code which is available in SE18 via Goto -> Sample code -> Display.

Thanks for the reply. I created the implementation for the badi and activated the badi.Then i run the transaction MFBF to see whether i got a subscreen but i there is no change.In the implementation of the badi there is a tab for subscreen.In that tab there are some fields to fill.The fields call program and screen no are filled automatically with values SAPLBARM and 800 respectively.There are 2 more fields to fill called program and screen no.What i have to fill in those fields?any suggestions?

I created 5 swfs (simple, short animations) The swfs are named "movie1," "movie2," and so on. I want to import all 5 movie clips and thread them together so that they play one after the other inside the timeline of a new Flash Document. I am hoping to have "movie 1" play, stop, have "movie 2" play, stop and so on until the 5th "movie plays then stops (no looping necessary). It will be played on a Mac laptop and not online.
I've been fiddling with timeline actions for 2 days and can't figure how to lead one movie to the other. I've been using Action Script 2 so far.
What I've done is create 5 layers (1 for each clip)
"movie1" is on layer 1, frame 1
"movie2" is on layer 2, frame 2
"movie3" is on layer 3, frame 3
"movie4" is on layer 4, frame 4
"movie5" is on layer 5, frame 5
Is this workable?

if you have swfs (and not movieclips), that probably won't work: no actionscript in those swfs will work. so, if you have any actionscript those swfs you'll need to "load" the swfs.
