I bought music from iTunes and downloaded it to my iPad. I have enabled iTunes Match on my PC (where most of my music is stored). When I turned on iTunes Match on iPad it said "iTunes Match will replace the music library" on my iPad. All of my iPad music is saved on iCloud, and some of my PC music is on iCloud. If I use iTunes Match will the music previously downloaded on my iPad be lost?

You need to either sync the iPad with iTunes so it will transfer the purchases to the iTunes library or download them from the purchase history. Then let iTM work on the "new" tracks in the library then all the music will be available on the iPad.

How- Sync to a new laptop without losing iPhone music?

Hi! I went to get the new iphone today (ack; cracked screen!) and I was told I needed to 'sync' my info from my old iphone first onto my laptop.
I am very thankful for those who take time to answer a cry for help; you will never know what it means to the other end of the computer who needs help.
So....I went home and tried; but it looks like I lose all the info on it.
My laptop is new; I've never synced it before. The laptop does have about 20 audio files I would like on the iphone, but right now they are in the computers 'music folder.'
When I press sync; the bar at the bottom of the sync page is significantly smaller which leads me to believe that on my iphone the 500 songs are lost and replaced by these 20 songs.
I'm worried that everything is going to be lost with my contacts, calendar, etc. My iphone is the one up to date.
Can you help? I really am looking forward to a new iphone! THANK YOU!!!!

You may want to contact Apple and see if they can offer any other assistance. In some cases, they'll send a replacement phone & put a hold on your credit card for the amount to pay for that phone outright. You send in your phone, they repair it & send it back, and you return the loaner.
It would be worth asking if that would be possible due to your current circumstances.

Well, this is a problem, because the only material you can transfer from your iPhone (using only Apple software) is material you purchased in the iTunes Store.
To do that, plug your iPhone into iTunes, then choose File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from iTunes' menu.
Generally speaking, you should restore your iTunes library from your computer's backup.

When connected to your computer's iTunes you can use File > Transfer Purchases to copy over any music (and other content) that you've bought from Apple. For music that you've copied from your own CDs or bought from other download sites then is it not already on your computer and/or on a backup that you can copy onto your computer ? It sounds like you will still want to link your iPad and computer, but you want to prevent the iPad from syncing information from your computer to your iPad. I have an article here for you that can help tell you how to set this up:

You will want to follow the steps here to set up the iPad for syncing, but when it comes time to sync, you'll just want to make sure that the boxes for syncing the multitude of items that you can sync remain unchecked so that none of that information gets synced into the iPad.
Another note: your second Apple ID will not be able to access the apps, music, movies, tv shows, etc., that you have purchased under your primary Apple ID. Even though it seems that the secondary Apple ID still has access to those items, that is just because you are viewing your second Apple ID through the iTunes Store section on your computer and you have those items saved locally on your computer. You will need to repurchase and download all of the content that you wish to use again on your second Apple ID, if that is what you wish to solely use on this iPad.

I have music that does not exist on iTunes, and I am beyond upset that I am not able to upload it to my computer and my phone. If there was a stupid CD drive, I would be able to enjoy my music, but I can't because the CD drive does not exist. There are cheap ones (under$50) that'll last anywhere from a year to three years or more expensive(over $50 and higher) that will last much longer.
Not all optical drives are Mac compatible.
Most Mac compatible drives you will only find to be purchased online.

How do I updgrade the software without losing my music? When I went to itunes.com, it offered 10.3.1 which appeared to only offer an entirely new install, as if I didn't already have itunes.

You can install that and not lose any of your music.
