Do you have a SIM in the phone? A SIM is required to activate the phone.
If you do, ask your dad if the phone was jailbroken or hacked to unlock it.

I recommend that you
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Dad set up an incorrect email for his Apple ID. I have deleted the ID but his email address is not available?

My Dad has set up his Apple ID with an old email address. I have deleted this ID and tried to create a new one with his correct email address. System is telling me that this email address is not available. What am l meant to do when this is Dads only email address? I have tried to answer the DOB question with no luck. I am trying to send to my rescue email address but l cannot get that option.

It sounds like his email address may already be in use as an Apple ID and the system is directing you to try to reset that password via date of birth and security questions. Hey Edgar, how exactly did you do the updates? Are you running iTunes 11.2.2? And you iPod 5 is still running iOS 6.1.2 as your tag shows? or are you running iOS 7.1.1? More info would be helpful. As Deggie asked, what was the error message, the more detailed the better. One more thing-- is this a Mac machine or a PC? Cheers.

Your iPad sees the WiFi network signal but obviously it is not connected to the network. Try rebooting your router - unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

The idea to jumpstart by change was not the smartest one, but gives you an opportunity to use that "temporary" account as permanent. You do not have a choice cause obviously despite you thinking that old account is no more -it does exist on Apple servers. And if you are unwilling to share your [email protected] with friend, just create one extra [email protected] for your friend. One suggestion - do not use gmail.

I got distracted and did not wonder why i-tunes did not finish installing. These sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

Well if you imported the videos to your computer, then you can sync them back via itunes.
If you didn't backup or import your videos, then your videos are gone, no way to get it back.

You iPod has been jail broken. Unfortunately you are on your own here. I can offer that you need to find out which method and software was used to JB.
