I lost my iPhone 5 on a business trip, when I retuned to that location 4 weeks later the HR rep told me that there was a phone that had been turned in but due to holidays and vacations they forgot to notify me. I know its my iPhone because my pass code worked once I charged the phone a bit.
I have had my replacement from Verizon since this occurred but I want to be able to use this one as an iPod for my kids, can I?

It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
Rather than buying a MacBook Pro to replace your MacBook you can just get a bigger hard drive. You can get a 1tb drive for around $100 and they are easy to replace in a MacBook.

I've found a lost iPhone 4, along with a charger and some other personal effects (none of which are identifying, unfortunately).
Unfortunately, the phone ("Alyssa's Phone) was locked. No problem, call up the service provider (Telus) with the SIM card number. Unactivated and thus unregistered SIM card.
Okay, let's use the IMEI or serial number off the back of the SIM tray--not registered with Telus, either.
Okay, let's phone up Apple technical support: serial number no longer eligible for support!
Clearly, Apple has had some dealing with the phone--can they get in touch with the owner and let them know where they can pick up the phone?

it won't work if "open firmware password" is enabled on the MBP.
Or if everything is FileVault encrypted.
It's possible it won't work without a power brick for the MBP, perhaps you can borrow one ?
You could also take out the Harddisk, and pop it in an external enclosure, but that's more effort.

Found a lost iphone 4s

Ok Apple so I found a lost iphone 4s at wallmart so 2 weeks earlier I decided to take it to my local police station!!! And gave it to the Police so the police contacted the owner and the owner did not want the phone back ha lol how strange! So the police told me I could have it back But I have a big problem here tho...the iphone is locked threw the icloud activation threw the owners gmail... so I called the police station and asked i if i could have the owners contact the police did not insist.they said No! Apple if I take the iphone to my local apple store can they unlock the iphone 4s activate it or flash it etc.

The phone appears to have had more than one 'owner' and the police do not seem inclined to pursue the matter. I believe only Apple security can formally unlock the phone and under these circumstances I doubt they would. There could be all sorts of private detail within.

My iPhone 5 wouldn't start after I turned it off a few minutes after writing this. It went into recovery mode and I had no choice but to connect to iTunes on PC and restore.
I restored to factory setting first, just to validate my phone was okay. For a second consecutive iOS update, the iPhone 5 did not update smoothly while connected to PC and iTunes - I had to retry two times before the progress bar for the update showed. (The exact same problem with the restart occured when I updated to 7.0.4.)
The good news is that I was ultimately able to restore the iPhone 5 to factory settings while running iOS 7.0.6. I did have a backup from about a month ago lying around and was able to successfully restore with that as well, so the damage done is almost negligible since I had my contacts, notes, mail, etc. backed up to iCloud.
Once I completed both restores, the sync with iTunes worked fine.

If what you say is correct, then me being here in the US with my phone, if I end up moving to the UK, you telling me I cannot go into O2 store, get a SIM from them and start a plan with them and re-activate my iPhone under that new SIM with my new plan?
I find that hard to believe. I would suspect all one has to do is what I just said. Get the proper SIM from the approved carrier and activate it. Making a phone worthless just because somebody moved would be...well, lets say unprofessional.

Pete, I'm grateful to have your comments... ! If you're like me, you may have the impression that the quality of technical support -- and documentation -- for third party hardware and software has declined dramatically over the past 10 - 15 years...
So my concern was that somehow different signal assignments / or current would be applied to the 30 pins (between the two devices), and that might result in frying my new iPhone 4s.
It would, nevertheless, be dandy to have the ability to 1.) charge the iPhone; 2.) transfer files over USB (from a third device); 3.) output stereo audio from the iPhone 4s via the (included) stereo RCA plugs to various devices; and, possibly, 4.) output video, via the Philips's S-Video port, to another device or monitor.
Your comments are helpful. And perhaps I can trust that the pin assignments are the same for the iPhone 4s and the iPod (for example, the 4th Generation iPod with color display).

I'm fairly certain you can do this. I traded my iPhone 5 for an iPhone 5S. When doing that, the Apple Store moved my service, leaving my iPhone 5 with a non-working SIM card. Indeed, it did behave as an iPod would.

You must get an unlocked phone from Apple. You will not have access to 4G or LTE systems. Your warranty will only be valid in Canada. You will have to pay any import or duty fees. Why not buy a phone in Britain?
