I got a new phone, I also changed out my hard drive in Mac. Missing auiobooks.

I got a new phone, I also changed out my hard drive in my mac. Both were backed up. The phone was backed up first to the hard drive and then the hard drive to another source. Anyway, I am now missing hundreds of dollars worth of audio books. How can I revoer the old books without losing the new books I've bought and the documents created since the change? Thanks for the help.

Restore the data from the backups.

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • When do I put in the OS X install disc when I change out my hard drive?

I am installing a new 500gb hard drive into my Macbook.  I have found a lot of information here on the forums but there is still one question I have: When do I put the Snow Leopard disc in the optical drive, before I power off and install the new hard drive or after I have finished the install and have powered on?  I have also read that I will insert the disc in the optical drive while the computer is off. Wont this damage the drive?  Any help will be very appreciated.

It's not clear what process you are following. See this:
How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
    1.  Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • I have a 2008 Macbook.  How do you change out the hard drive from one macbook to another?  Maybe I just need the special screwdriver to get the hard drive out?

I have a 2008 Macbook.  I want to install a newer (used) hard drive into this one.  I think all I need is the special screwdriver to remove it, then install it.  Where can I get that screw driver?

There is some information on how to, plus some tool lists in the online iFixit guides for repair and replacement of parts, in these computers.

  • Changed out the hard drive in my imac mid 2007 intel.  Once the disc loads, I get "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." Help! Be gentle. I am truly a novice.  Thanks in advance.

I changed the hard drive in my mid 2007 Intel Imac.  I'm trying to re-install the the op system. I'm receiving a message stating that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." I am a "newbe" to Mac's.  Can someone help? Please be gentle.  I raeally am a novice. Thanks in advance

I believe these are the wrong system restore discs for your model iMac, assuming your are correct that you have mid 2007 iMac.
These gray colored type restore discs are Mac-machine specific and are the wrong ones for your iMac.
    They will not work.
The original OS X restore discs for your model iMac would either install OS X 10.4.11 Tiger or OS X 10.5 Leopard.
You have gray system restore discs for a later model iMac. These will not work with iMac year and model.
    Sorry.
You need to purchase a full retail version of OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard here instead.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
These discs will work with your year and model iMac.
Assuming that your hard drive was installed properly, these white retail OS X install discs should be able to boot, format and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to your 2007 iMac.
    Good Luck!

  • Changing out my hard drive

So I bought a larger hard drive for my mac book Pro, what is the best way to simply take off the data on my current hard drive and move it to the new one once it's installed? ( I do have several FW externals to copy the data to)
A friend mentioned Super Duper, btu I wanted to ask the forums before doing anything

Define hard? If you have the right tools, it's pretty easy - assuming you have a unibody MBP (you are posting in the unibody forums).
Apple considers the HDD in the newest MBPs to be user-replaceable, because the HDD is accessed via the battery compartment. For the older generations of MBPs, the case had to be opened, so it was not considered user-replaceable.
Apple provides instructions on replacing the HDD in the unibody MBPs. Here are Apple's instructions on replacing the HDD in a 17" unibody MBP. The instructions for the 15" unibody procedure are on p.38 of the User Guide.

  • I got a new phone in the mail and i want to get my pictures off of my old one (doesnt turn on at the moment). Also isnt there a way to restore my settings onto the new one? settings that were on my old one?

My girlfriend got a new phone recently as well and she was able to click something on her new phone that allowed all the setting pictures texts and etc to transfer to her new phone, even though her old phone was unaccessible. How do I do that for my phone? It's the same circumstance. I dont back up my phone like she does but I dont think she had done a recent backup before her phone died either. Someone please help!

You transfer the data (including text messages) and settings from your old phone to your new one by backing up your old phone and restoring this backup to your new one (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109).  This must have been what your girlfriend did.
If you never backed up your old phone and it doesn't work now, it's too late.

  • Why can't I use FaceTime on ipad? I had the ability, then I got my new phone and can't answer on my iPad, but can answer on my phone.

I have been using my iPad to FaceTime. She. I got my new phone I started using facetime on that also. Now I can't get my calls to connect on my iPad. I have tried changing my settings so that only when you call using my email on my iPad and my phone number on my phone and selecting both on both devices and still no help.  What should my setting be on for my iPad and my phone so I can FaceTime on either one?

    Yes.  You are being paranoid.
There is no Fcetime icon on any iphone.  You turn it on in settings.  Select a contact and scroll down to the facetime button in order to make a facetime call.
You cannot delete or add the app store.
It was likely on another page, in a folder or you have restrictions set.
Don't know what "can't download anything " means.

I a got a new phone and backed all of my stuff on to the new one can I now delete the old phone backups off I cloud without deleting the content from my phone?

Yes, absolutely, but before you do, give yourself three or four days to verify that you have everything on the new phone. You also probably will not be able to delete old backup for three days anyway, I have heard that Apple places server in three days lock out after restore from backup initially started.

  • My husband got a new phone number, however, every time he texts me it still says he's texting from his old number.  I've even erased him as a contact and reprogrammed him.  How do I correct this?

My husband got a new phone number, however, every time he texts me it says it's coming from his old phone number.  I've even deleted him from my contacts and my hotmail contacts, resynced my hotmail contacts, then added my husband as a new contact.  Both of his phones were iPhones but his previous carrier was Verizon and his new carrier is Viaero.  I'm still on Verizon.

    I've fixed my own problem.
In the end, the issue was with iMessage on the other phone, not mine.
While I had it connected to iTunes (the other phone, not mine), I could see that iTunes thought it was the temporary number (07429...). I turned iMessage off and back on again and the phone number in iTunes changed to the old (i.e correct) number (07903...).
Subsequently, texts from my phone to the other phone showed up as blue-bubbled iMessages.
    Hope this helps someone!
Thanks for reading, if you did.

    Hi..
On your new iPhone tap Settings > Store.
Make sure Books is turned ON.
You shouldn't need to re purchase the book >  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
