For some reason when I plug my ipod into my comp itunes freezes but my ipod says it is plugged and when I plug it into a different comp it works. How can I fix this?
Setesh, See if both computer has the same version of iTunes, if both are the same, then it is your PC, that has plug-ins which is in conflict it iTunes. ( normally it is the Antivirus or some plug-ins to beautify your screen)
If it is different, most likely the other PC has an older version of iTunes, so you should downgrade your iTunes to that older version, which your iPod interface well with.
Other probable causes,
you are using the USB 1.1 port at the front of your PC, and not the USB2,0 port at the back of your PC. so switch to the back.
Dont use any other USB devices, when you are syncing the iPod.
Dont use any USH Hub.

I thought that ALL itunes purchases were held on the Apple server for itunes.
When I reinstalled my itunes on my new hard drive, there were NO histoical purchases on my itune account.
Any thoughts to a solution.
ThanksMake sure you have at least iTunes 10.3.1, then go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the new Purchases link under the Quick Links. The new iTunes in the Cloud service may allow you to re-download your purchased content (music, videos and TV shows not available for re-downloading in all countries at this time; movies and audiobooks not available for re-downloading at all yet). You can also do this from an iOS device.

I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas of where else to look for advice. Thanks!Hey jcaqualung,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with iTunes on your Windows Vista machine. The following resource may provide a solution. I would also recommend installing iTunes on the internal hard drive of your computer, as opposed to the external drive.

Installing iTunes on a new hard drive
Ok, so my laptop that i used for iTunes had a recent hard drive crash. Basically, my iTunes right now is brand new.
_*My iPod is the only thing with my music on it.*_
What can I do to get all my music back onto my 'new' laptop?Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
Comparison of iPod managers
Senuti Mac Only
PodView Mac Only
PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -
I bought a new apple computer, when I synced my ipod after I thought i had transferred all my music all my old music was erased. How can I get back my old music on my ipod?

New hard drive and problems with sync
My problem is that I have installed a new hard drive (Win 7) which I installed itunes on and I cannot sync my ipod. I still have my old hard drive (windows XP) with the original itunes on it and I have tried to back it up but it still wont do it.
I can boot to XP and perform a back up but re-booting to Win7 and trying to restore it dosent work and I still get the syncing issue. I find the suggestion to erase my ipod and reinstall my music, a ridiculous solution and I'm guessing there is an "easy button" somewhere?
help!I probably should have mentioned this twist. My music is on a seperate drive. So what I have is Win7 on SSD1, WinXP on 2nd drive and media on a 3rd drive.
I backed up my media on both OS's and they seem to conflict with or do not recognize each other. Installing all my music on my SSD along with my Win7 is not an option (too small).
thanks -
Just aquired a new PC preloaded with Windows Home Premium. Installed iTunes and when I attached my iPad there got a message "Trust/Don't Trust Computer", clicked "Trust". However, the iPad does not show up in iTunes and I do not understand why. Can anyone help?

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like an iOS device is not showing up in iTunes. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

After installing, whenever i try to open the application, it keeps popping up that some or the other .dll file is missing.
When I install that particular .dll file and then again try to re open, it says that someother file is missing. It keeps
coming all the time. For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Hello, I have just installed my license for Mac OS v 10.6.3 and installed updates including security updates.
I have a licence for Lion that is sitting on Apples computer somewhere.
How do I access my account and install Lion on my machine?
Beyond that I want to upgrade to Maverick but given I work out the first step upgrading to Maverick should be easy.
Thanks, Julian R AWelcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Lion could be purchased from the Mac App Store (and now, at the Apple Online Store). Once you purchase it, you can download it as many times as you want for free.
Open > Software Update, and install the most recent Mac OS X version. It should be Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer. Then, open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases, log in with your Apple ID and download OS X Lion. Make a backup before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
You can upgrade to OS X Mavericks from Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer without any problem, so upgrading to OS X Lion first is a waste of time. Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks -
New Hard drive and I tunes probs
Hi folks,
first time on and have a big problem.
Just put a new hard drive in a friends PC as his was bust.
His wife has an Ipod with a vast amount of media on it which she doesnt want to loose, she also cannot get a hold of the cds ect she originaly used to put the tracks on Itunes.
We are worried that be putting Itunes on the new hard drive and linking her pod back up it will wipe the data.
Is this true and is there a way to get around it?
Any help would be much appreciated,
Cheers for now,
KevIf you are using the iPod in manual update mode it is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual.
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
While you can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, if you want to check this out, there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from an iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
PodPlayer Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
If you go for retrieval, whichever by whichever method, keep the iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded iTunes and you are happy with the playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. -
I just had to put a new hard drive in my Macbook. How do I "backload" my Ipod tunes back into Itunes on the new hard drive I had installed?
Somebody told me that as soon as I connect the Ipod to the computer, Itunes will will wipe it clean and install what is in the Itunes library (which is nothing) and that I would need some sort of software to accomplish this. Does it matter that the tunes on the Ipod were all uploaded from cd's and not purchased?
