I have also noticed the same "problem". I do not fully understand the impact of using the same ID on multiple computers and devices if I want to keep them all in sync.

I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?) touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

As note already on the iBA forum [ AppleID for ibooks publishing ], you need two IDs. You can't use your developer ID.
If you already signed up for books with that ID, you need to talk to Apple to straighten things out.

Thanks for you reply. I'm 99% positive that I'm using the user id and password that I used to set up my computer. That's why I'm stumped. I read the solution someone else suggested (type your user name without @gmail and create a new password. When I tried it, I was asked for my birthday. It didn't recognize it. You can not create an iCloud account using a PC, set the account up on a Mac or an iPhone/iPad, then you will be able to sign into it on your PC.

TS1368 itunes on my new alienware laptop acts as if the computer is not connected. (which it is) can not sign in with my itunes username and password. itunes help even pops up with "your computer is not connected to the internet"....

so in other words, I can NOT sign in on my account, much less authorize this laptop. can't even access help. have downloaded the latest itunes software, checked my firewall settings etc.... (the itunes help window even opens up with "itunes help is unavailable because your computer is not connected to the internet". granted I am basically computer illiterate, in other words if something isnt working my knowledge is pretty limited with tweaking things. You do not need to "sign up" for downloading updates. Just run Software Update and let it access them directly thru the App Store.
