I have 2 Macs - an iMac which holds my main iPhoto library and a Mac Book Pro which holds a subset of the library. How can I transfer photos and their metadata from the main library to the smaller 1 on the Mac Book Pro?
Link the two Macs together and use iPhoto Library Manager

Photo stream seems to reject photos from older aperture libraries when I try to share them using either drag and drop or share button.
I tried to figure out what you were asking about, and realized that I did not see the synced collections either. But then I realized I was logged in to the wrong Adobe account - my wife is the actual subscription holder. not me. But I stay logged in as myself to participate in these forums.
So I logged out and logged back in as her, and still didn't see the collections. I closed the page, reopened it, closed it again, and I wish I could tell you why, but the collection I have synced to Mobile showed up.
So there is a perfectly good web site, you just need to get logged in properly I guess.
I clicked on the sharing options icon and this is what I get. I redacted the URL for obvious reasons:
You can allow the viewer all, or picked, unflagged, rejected. I don't see a way to make it completely read only. Just don't teach anyone how to flag or pick a photo. -

you can first transfer photos from iPhone to computer and then drag them to the external hard drive. For your iTunes library, you can follow:

3. Locate your iTunes folder:By default, the iTunes folder is located in:
Mac: Finder > username > Music

To sync photos from a Mac or Windows PC to your device using photo applications
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
In iTunes, select your device's icon in the Devices list on the left.
Click the Photos tab.
Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Note: Some versions of Photoshop Album and Photoshop Elements don't support collections. You can still use them to sync all your photos.
If you want to sync all your photos, enable the option for "All photos, albums, events, and faces." If you want to sync photos from only some albums, events, or faces, enable the option for "Selected albums, events, and faces" and then select the albums you want. Drag the images you want into a folder on your computer. If you want images to appear in separate photo albums on your device, create folders inside the main folder and drag images into the new folders.
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left.

Select Choose Folder from the pop-up menu and choose your main image folder.

Tap and hold an app until they all start jiggling and an X appears in the icon's top left corner. One by one tap the X to delete the app. when they are all gone you are free to buy them again with your own account.

How can I transfer photos from an IPhone 5 to an IPad 2 using a cable. I have tried using the lightning to firewire adapter with my current lead but this only seems to allow a download from the IPad to the IPhone and not the other way around.
The devices are not designed for transfer of that kind. Use Photo Stream as suggested by another poster, or transfer photos to your computer (a good idea anyway since they will be lost if your device needs to be reset), then use iTunes to sync them to the other devices.

Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
When Force Quit window appears, select the Safari if not already.
Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window. Wait.

Turn those off and try Safari.
3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
