I have a '13-inch, Early 2009' MacBook. I want to restore it to its factory settings (I have the 'Mac OS X Install DVD' and 'Applications Install DVD'). At this time, I am completely up-to-date with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3. My question is:
After I restore the computer, will I also lose Lion? If so, will it be possible to get it back? Will it be possible to catch back up to the latest software without having to spend any money? I bought and installed Snow Leopard when it came out, but no longer have a physical copy of that disc.
Hi Linux,
I was about to restore my MacBook when I came upon this screen:
Is this not an indication that it intends on reinstalling it back to its "factory settings", which means OS X Leopard?
I'm simply afraid that I will be reverted back to 'Leopard', and then be forced to either stick with what I've got, or to spend unnecessary money in order to catch back up.

my iphone 4 would not back-up to to pc "because an error occurred" anyone offer any solutions to this, I want to restore my phone to factory settings and reinstall my data but cannot back up first. Original problem is that I cannot connect to any wifi system anymore - have tried resetting network settings but did not work.
Try 1 step at a time and do a backup, if no joy then do the next step:
1. Switching off your anti-virus and firewall.
2. Computer iTunes menu > Edit > Preferences... > Devices > delete your backup -

I have an old HP G5056EA Notebook PC.how do i restore it back to factory settings
is there an F KEY that i can press when i switch the laptop on?
Follow the instructions on this HP web document.
After pressing the power button, immediately start tapping the F11 key every second.
If the recovery partition is ok and no changes were made to the partitions then the recovery manager should start up.

My iPhone 4 will not turn on, when I plug it into my computer and load up iTunes its in recovery mode and the only option is to restore my device to factory settings, I have no back up of my phone I've also tried the home/sleep button thing but nothing, I have literally done every method I was told, I checked for water damage and that's fine. I don't want to restore my phone or buy a new one or pay for repairs because that's wasting money when it could be a simple way to fix it. And yes, I've also tried charging it and turning it in. I really need some help with my phone
That does happen. It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system. If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

i have had to restore my pc to factory settings. i have downloaded i tunes again and cant find my purchases ? wendy13
You ought to have backed up your data before nuking Windows...
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

How do I restore my Mac OS 9 to its factory settings?
how do I restore my Mac OS 9 to its factory settings?
Insert the install disk, restart with the C key held down, select the internal drive, choose Erase Disk from the Finder's Special menu, and install an OS onto it. If you are shown an installation screen instead of the Finder straight away, erase it from Drive Setup if not given an explicit option by the installer.

I have an iMac 20 inch early 2009 software osx 10.8.1(12b19)...i am not able to use my internet, outlook, or any messenger. tried troubleshooting, reseting safari, disabling norton firewall, deleted intego...still no internet. i did delete intego without uninstalling so im wondering if that caused the problem. everytime i try to open safari it displays this: Safari can't open the page: "http://www.yahoo.com/". the error is: "the operation couldn't be completed. Operation not permitted" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:1)
Like nearly all antivirus utilities for OS X, Norton a/k/a Symantec and Intego are worthless junk that will cripple your Mac. Remants of one or both are most likely preventing Safari from communicating.
Search the forums for techniques to eradicate them - simply disabling them or dragging their apps to the Trash is not likely to be sufficient. Start by reading this procedure from Symantec:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH103489
For Intego: http://support2.intego.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=214
... i did delete intego without uninstalling so im wondering if that caused the problem.
I believe you are correct. Download and run its uninstaller. -
I have a macbook 13-inch, Early 2009
and installed Lion 10.7.5
How can I recover or resset my admin. password?, because I put that I remember but is incorrect. The only way to reformat (erase) and restore to factory settings is by booting from the install disc that came with the Mac. Apple install discs are, "machine specific" meaning they can only be used on the Mac they shipped with.

hi, please can anybody help me with my macbook white (13-inch, Early 2009). My backlight turn on/off in wrong angles, sometimes is backlight automatically turn off. Next problem - the headphone output still red light, so my speaker doesn't play :(. Here is the video. Know anybody how fix it these problems. Thanks for helping me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk1C7brbUlsThank you, red light solved -but I have new problem if I plug 3,5 jack (e.g. headphones it doesn't work because it is turn on spdif - red light (because volume on macbook is not possible...) Do you have any idea how can I fix my new problem? :-/
Connection issue is not problem of backlight (I had opened my macbook, and cables looks good, I think there is a problem with sensor which turn on/off backlight) -
I have installed mountain lion on my early 2009 macbook (not unibody) and it is terrible, it's like owning a windows pc again (almost) What can I do? I paid for mountain lion, is there any way of giving it back and getting a refund? obvisoulsy after unintalling it. I couldn't see any reason why it would be bad for my particular macbook, and it downloaded without a problem.
In what way is it terrible? Mountain Lion is pretty stable. If you are having problems, most likely they are unique to your particular system and can be fixed. If you don't like some of the new features, that does not constitute reason for a refund.
If that does not suit you, you will have to discuss a refund with Apple, as they are the only ones who can say. Note that the App Store terms do say that all sales are final, so you are not guaranteed a refund, especially since whatever problems you had are not due to defective software. -
On the shared option in Finder. Would there happen to be a quicker, more effective means of doing this? I don't have an external hard drive (other than my 1TB iMac's). Is that something that the 'Thunderbolt' cable is designed for?
It seems like it might take up to eight hours to compelte the transfer, since there is almost 20GB of material.I agree with Keith about using the Target Disk Mode, Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. This way there's no chance of errors due to dropouts using the wireless connection.
According to MacTracker your early 2009 Macbook does have a Firewire 400 connector which should do the job very well.

Onto all of my other device. Is all of the music in iCloud safe if I restore my MacBook?
I have an iPhone and an iMac. There is a lot of music that I have downloaded from iCloud onto both devices – however, not all. My question is: will the songs that have not been downloaded onto my iMac from iCloud be lost if I restore the computer that was the original location of all of that music?I agree with Keith about using the Target Disk Mode, Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. I have just bought a used 2009 macbook pro, but I am new to computing and mac so can anybody please tell me if there is reliable software that will help me keep my macbook running at its best without breaking the bank?
In General 3rd Party AV Software and Cleaning Utilities tend to cause More Issues than they claim to fix...
They are Not Required...
Mac OS X tends to look after itself.
