I have a 5 year old MBP, 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB MHz, DDR2 SDRAM, running Snow Leopard, 10.6.8.
I use wireless to connect to the Internet and everything works fine when I sign on.  After being on line for awhile and my remaining battery power at about 60%, I lose connectivity.  I turn off Airport, restart it, and I am asked for my secure password.  I enter the password but cannot reconnect.  So, I shut down the computer for 5 to 10 minutes, restart, and everything works great again.
Has anyone experienced this behavior and do you have any suggestions as to what is causing the problem.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Lowell

I think I hit the wrong key ... so here it is again!
Thank you ...  I keep seeing this i5 and i7 processor mentioned and it is also recommeded that I stream using it. Do you have any suggestions on which MacBook would serve me better? Or is there an upgrade of any kind that will help me?
Thanks again.

    Hi,
the Intel Core Duo processor is a 32-bit only processor and not capable of 64-bit.
Only the Core 2 Duo and later processors are capable of 64-bit.

  • Can a MacBook Pro1,1 - 2GHz Intel Core Duo be upgraded to Lion or even Leopard?

Is it possible to upgrade the OS from Tiger to either Lion or Leopard on a MacBookPro1,1  2GHz Intel Core Duo (2006)?  Need to upgrade Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft software...

Here's something to consider. I see you have 1G RAM. That works well enough for Tiger 10.4. However, I think Leopard or Snow Leopard will be happier if you increase the RAM.
Your MBP can handle up to 2G of RAM. It has two RAM slots'In your case, there would be one 512MB module in each slot. You could replace one 512MB module with a 1G module and have a total over 1.5G. That would be a big help. Or replace both. If you are in the US, RAM is not expensive (see: 2.0GB Upgrade Kit                 (1.0GB Modules x 2 Matched) for US$33), and the RAM is easily installed even by the most novice user.
Here are the Apple Instructions for installing RAM in teh first Gen MacBook Pros:

  • I've a hand down black MacBook OSX10.5.8 , how can I upgrade to snow leopard, it's 2GHz intel core duo, 1GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM

According to visit to genius bar, they told me its not support, I gotta buy a new Mac! I don't actually need it, but would like to have iCloud option, bc my iCal doesn't syn with any of my iPhone 4 or iPad 2.

The model 1,1 Core Duo can only run in 32 bit. Lion only runs in 64 bit which needs a Core 2 Duo model 2,1 or better which can run in 32 or 64 bit.

Will Mountain Lion work on my 4 year old iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a 2.66 gHz.
Really do not want to load it and find there are issues.
Oh I really not a big tech guy I just want everything to work well.
And I'm just about to purchase a Mac Book Pro as well.
Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated

I also have a 4 year old iMac 24". it is the 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo. I have been running Mountain Lion since it was released, and before that Lion. Runs great. Over the last month I have noticed some slow data transfers from a USB harddrive. But not enough to do any research. I use a USB harddrive for my Time Machine backup and notice no problems or slow transfers while the Time Machine backup runs. My iTunes has its nedia files on a USB harddrive and is used to watch videos, play music and share photos on the AppleTV. I also use Aperture on the iMac to store and manage 20,000 photos.
I have 6 GB of ram, 4GB and 2GB memory sticks. I know it is best to have identical ram sticks but my iMac model cannot run 8GB of ram and I feel 6GB is better than 4GB.
Mountain Lion is a great OS and I am glad I upgraded. It works great with the AppleTV (no airplay but iTunes on the iMac serves up all our music, photos and videos), iPhone, and iPod Touch. Also with my wifes brand new Macbook Pro. All the devices including the iMac can share data on iCloud.

  • I have an iMac 2GHz Intel Core Duo, what is possible with Lion

I have an iMac 2GHz Intel Core Duo,  is that possible to operate Lion with this iMac

Here is the information about  downloading Lion when it is released in July.

If you don't meet these requirements, as of now, you wouldn't be able to run Lion.  If anything changes, I am sure Apple will let us know.

You're welcome, j. If not enough free space availabe is the issue, now is a good time to upgrade to a much larger HD, as prices have never been better. Clear, illustrated directions are available at ifixit.com, macsales.com, powerbookmedic.com, youtube and others. Macsales, amazon and newegg have a nice selection of HDs, while the latter two also have lots of user reviews.
Given that your MBP is 4-5 years old, and the average life-span of a HD is 3-5 years . . . .
Given that you have a 17" MBP, you can install any capacity HD currently available, just make sure it's 2.5", SATA, and 12.5mm high or less (there's at least one Seagate monster out there that's 14-15mm high). All other things being equal, a 5400RPM HD is going to use less battery power, run cooler, quieter, and with less vibration, and, of course, run a bit slower than a 7200. An SSD is also a possibility (a very expensive one), but you're not going to see anywhere near the speed bump as newer machines due to the SATA 1 (1.5Gbps) SATA/HD bus bottelneck.

an external HD that had been on the desktop (i.e. I forgot to eject it
properly), started displaying video anomalies (lines); testing
(TechTool Deluxe 3.1.3) indicates the video is failing.
The graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1600. Is this reasonably
replaceable? If so, is the "MPC ClientPro 434 All In One ATI MXM X1600
PCIe 128MB Video Card" I found on eBay (for $25, used) essentially the
    same unit?
My soldering skills are, sadly, poor.
And it only dawned on me a couple days ago that because this iMac does
not have a Core 2 Duo processor, it will not be able to enter the
    "Lion" generation.
    Thanks,

PS Are manuals for this model available? I have a copy of the Peachpit
Apple Training Series "Desktop and Portable Systems, Second Edition"
but it only goes up to the G5 20" iMac. There doesn't appear to be a
3rd or later edition in the series.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Mountain Lion is a 64-bit operating system, and an Intel Core Duo processor is only 32-bit, so you can't use Mountain Lion on your Mac. You can keep using your actual OS X version or buy a new Mac if you want Mountain Lion

  • Imac 2Ghz Intel Core Duo to Philips Flat Screen TV

Appears I know even less about iMAc than I thought! Learn something new everyday!!
Hi, I have used the forums to search for info in the past and they are a great source of info.
I am trying to look for ways to link my Imac Intel Core Duo (with OSX 10.5.8 and GB Ram + a Dvi output for video) (which is in a cupboard which I record music) to my TV (which is in a far more comfortable environment!)
As the cupboard is next to the living room my bluetooth keyboard and mouse will be usuable on the mac but I want to see the display on the TV!
    Is this possible?
The TV is a Philips 32PFL5522D(user manual http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/3/32pfl5522d05/32pfl5522d_05_dfueng.pdf)
Cabling it would be OK but messy. Wireless would be perfect!
Dont know how to do either though!
Any hints, tips or suggestions would be gratefully received
    Cheers

  • I have a MacBook Pro that has an Intel Core Duo Processor but to upgrade to Lion OS X I need an Intel Core2 Duo. Can I upgrade?

I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8 but want to upgrade to Lion. My Mac that has an Intel Core Duo Processor (I know really outdated huh) but to upgrade to Lion OS X I need an Intel Core2 Duo. Can I upgrade or will it mess it up?

It actually shouldn't allow you to upgrade. Your configuration should be detected and then it should reject your attempt to upgrade.

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade my mac mini operating system to mountain lion. Can somebody tell me what I have to do.
    Many thanks

A Core Solo or Core Duo Mac can't run Mountain Lion. If you happen to have a compatible Mac(there are no Core Duo 2GHz Mac minis), phone the online Apple Store, order a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, run Software Update, and get it from the Mac App Store.

  • Is de install dvd for 10.6.3 in compatible to upgrade a 2.2ghz intel core duo macbook?

i have my install dvd for SL 10.6.3 and i whish to know if i can use it to upgrade my macbook for  10.5.1

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If it's a white DVD, you have a Snow Leopard retail DVD, so you can use this disc to upgrade your MacBook without any problem. However, before upgrading, open  > Software Update in your MacBook to install 10.5.8. Also, make a backup of your data.
If it's a grey DVD, that disc came with another Mac and it has got a special Mac OS X version for that Mac, so you can't use it for the MacBook
