I have a Airport Extreme 802.11n and I can't find the disc to install it... how can I install without the disc?

I have a Airport Extreme - 802.11n and I'm trying to install it -- but I don't have the disc. Any help would be so appreciated.

You don't need the disk, you can download and install the application that you need.

Plenty of suggestions.. only you can find out which one is correct.
What model AE? What firmware?
Since Panasonic TV is not apple it will use SMB windows type networking.. everything but Apple does.
Are the names in the AE all SMB compatible.. ie short.. max about 20 characters.. no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Is the security set to WPA2 Personal with a pure alphanumeric password of 10-20 characters.. more is fine if you suffer paranoia but isn't needed.
Fix the wireless channels.. so it doesn't flip flop like a dying fish.
There are only 3 channels for 2.4ghz that do not overlap, 11, 6, 1 although someone suggested 8 works well if you have heaps of interference. If you live in flat/apartment building you have heaps of interference.
Lastly is it stable if the distance is 3M direct line of sight?
If not then get a high power wireless AP and use that instead.

STACK: / [ -mark- /sfnts I’ve tried shutting down the printer and disconnecting it and the Airport, but that doesn’t help. I reset the settings on the printer. I upgraded the Airport firmware and removed, reinstalled, and upgraded the Lexmark printer driver. After I upgraded the firmware and printer driver, a few pages printed correctly, but then I got the same syntax error page as before. Any suggestions for getting the printer to work correctly?

Use a powered USB hub between the AE and the printer.. the usb port does sometimes have issues.
Try deleting the printer in the Mac and reinstall it.. the change in AE can represent effectively a change of printer.. it is important to make sure that is all up to date.
Beyond that.. USB printers.. ughhh! Consider for two toners you can go and buy a proper network printer.

Setting up Time Capsule with existing AirPort Extreme 802.11n and AirPort Express.

The answer depends on what you need the TC to accomplish. If all you need it to do is perform Time Machine backups, simply have it join your existing network in client mode. It would be if it were to connect to your existing router (presumably your Extreme), not through an "extended" wireless network (presumably your Express).
If you need the TC to "extend" your network so as to serve additional wireless clients, you can do that also. Configure it to "extend" the network created by your Extreme.
As you can see it's quite versatile.

AirPort Extreme 802.11n and PowerBooks?

I am about 1.5 seconds away from buying one of the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n base stations to work with my AirPort Express but I have some questions / concerns.
1) Is my Powerbook capable of being enabled to access an "n based network" or is my money wasted on a router capable of speeds my computer can not access?
2) Should my computer be capable of accessing this network, is the Airport Express Base Station I have capable of acting on this network in "N speed" too? I know the base station can be configured to act essentially as a relay to boost signal strength...if set up to do so will it dumb the speed down to "G speed"?
3) If 1 and 2 are true and the express base station dumbs the speed of the N router down, can I configure the airport express base station to ONLY act as a wireless conection to my stereo and not as a wireless router, so as to allow my Powerbook to access the "N" speed network but still broadcast my music wirelessly to the stereo?

Hey for any one still lookin....
1. It all depends on what your CARD is capable of. Your POWERBOOK is more then capable of "N" speeds. Your only limited on the bandwidth of the Cardbus slot. You would have to have a third party card to access the new "N" speeds tho. I'm not sure if the last batch of (pre MacBooks) Powerbooks even made it to the "G" standard. I know Apple just came out with a driver for the latest Macs that have an upgradeable Card and or Basestation to get to "N". I really don't think your Express is upgradeable.
2. You need to look at what models you have to figure out what their capable of. You should be able to go to Apple's web site to find out. Usually the Router will Dumb it down to the SLOWEST speed. Unless you were streaming your music, and playing a game online, and transferring a large file you shouldn't have a problem anyway. As long as you are not using the slowest product it won't dumb down.
3. Haven't got that far yet. I've used up all my brain cells getting this far, so good luck on your mission. Try starting another string with specifics on what you want to do.

Airport Extreme 802.11n and AirPort Express 802.11g on same network. Speed?

I am migrating all our Macs to 802.11n. I will have a new Extreme 802.11n base station, and all Macs will be newer models with 802.11n. However, I have an older Airport Express 802.11g that we use for the shared printer.
I have read that the ENTIRE network will run at the speed of the slowest device. Is this true? I know that the printer can only communicate at g, but will I also see the macs having to slow down to g? If so, I will upgrade to a new Express.

That's not exactly true, but it will certainly degrade the network. A new Express (N) is your best solution to maximize the speed of your network.

Airport Extreme 802.11n and PPTP

Hi,
I've posted this question earlier in the wrong forum. Sorry for the double post.
I'm thinking of buying an Airport Extreme basestation. A problem I have with my current setup (using Airport Express) is that I have to use an extra router between my DSL modem and the Airport to connect to my provider via PPTP. Looking at the specs for the Airport Extreme, it seems that the new base station supports PPTP. But I really want to be sure, can I use PPTP with the Airport Extreme directly, or do I need to add an extra router as I have now?

WDS networking issue - Airport Extreme (802.11n) and remote Airport Express

Issue
Please help as I'm having issues with my WDS network. I've setup using both the wizard and manual and also hard reset on both units to setup again but cannot get them both to communicate to one another. Both units are showing green LED under their configuration. For my last attempt, I've tried adding the Airport ID (MAC) of the Airport Express to the Access Control and also DHCP Reservations on the Airport Extreme but still no luck.
The Airport Express (setup as remote) does not even show up in the Airport Extreme's Summary as Wireless Clients. In the WDS tab, the Airport Extreme is set up as WDS main, Allow wireless clients box checked and WDS Remotes has the Airport Express' AirPort ID in the list. On the Airport Express, WDS is set up as remote, with Allow wireless client box checked and the Airport ID of the Airport Express in the WDS Main.
I can connect clients to both units. Both units are configured using the same Network Name and have the same WPA/WPA2 security key. The Airport Extreme (main) however is connected to my broadband so any devices or clients connected to it are able to get outside. Connected devices or clients are assigned IP address via DHCP with IP 10.0.x.x. If wifi devices or clients connect to the Airport Express (remote) they are assigned a completely different IP addresses 169.254.x.x, they are not able to browse the internet or talk to other clients connected on the 10.0.1.x network. The Internet Connection configuration on the Airport Express (remote) is Connect Using Airport (WDS) and Using DHCP. I've even tried manually and entered the IP address 10.0.1.199 that I had assigned to the Airport Express from the Airport Extreme and Router Address as IP of Airport Extreme (10.0.1.1).
I think I've tried everything but I'm still having this problem. The remote Airport Express is not extending my existing Airport Extreme network. Any ideas???

This may or may not be helpful, or it may be something you've already tried or are aware of so I apologize if that's the case.
I have been researching ways to set up the Dual Band Network supported by the AEBS and came across your post. I've got an AEBS and (2) AirPort Express set-up currently (AEBS is main and the Express are participating in the WDS as remotes) and I'm trying to configure one of the Express to utilize a 802.11b/g compatible network while the AEBS runs a 5Ghz 802.11n Only network.
AAR, since the AirPort Express are 2.4Ghz 802.11b/g ONLY (no support for 802.11n), you have to be sure to set-up your AEBS first and select "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)" in the Radio Mode drop-down on the AEBS before you attempt to connect an AirPort Express. The AEBS should be set-up as your "WDS main" and the Express should be set-up as a "WDS remote" for the network you established when you set-up the AEBS.
Bottom line here is the Express won't be seen by the AEBS unless the AEBS is 'looking' in the 802.11b/g 2.4Ghz frequency.

my outbound mail. I can get it to work about one time in 10. All settings have stayed the same with the only variable being the new router. Any thoughts?

Are you using the smtp provided by AOL? What port are you presenting it on -- Port 25 or Port 587? In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Infomation/Outgoing Server Settings, does the name of the (if the one from AOL) include your Username from your AOL email address (also referred to as account name, by AOL, I think)?

Airport Extreme 802.11n and XBox 360 Disonnects

I've been using the Airport Xtreme 802.11n for about a week now and have been frequently disconnected from Xbox live on my xbox 360. The NAT is open and I'm directly connected to the router via an ethernet cable. I've given the 360 a static IP address and have forwarded ports 88 and 3074. The disconnects have happened both while in the middle of a online game and while I'm just on the Dashboard. Does anyone have any suggestions or is anyone else experiencing this. Please Help! It's extremely frustrating!

I have been having this problem as well. It says the server timed out, then my AEBS starts flashing yellow. Sometimes it goes back to green on its own, then other times I have to open up the airport setup. Oddly mine happens the same time every night, give or take 5 minutes.
For more info on my setup: XBOX360 wired to the AEBS, connected to a Motorola modem. At&t DSL is my ISP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Severe interference between Airport Extreme (802.11n) and my Cable Modem

The root cause of the problem reported in the above post was determined to be a case of severe electrical interference between the 802.11n device and a Motorola Cable modem supplied by Comcast. I can provide the modem model number for anyone wanting it.
I found that at least 12" spacing is required between the 802.11n and the modem to avoid any significant interference.
I also found that if these two devices are physically adjacent the data rate performance thru the modem can reduce to almost zero.
I speculate that the 802.11n is radiating so much radio energy that it causes electrical interference with the modem's function.
N.B. The Airport Snow does not exhibit this same electrical interference.

I would connect the xbox 360 to the Airport Extreme with an ethernet cable and from the Airport Extreme back to my router would be wirelessly.
If you intent to connect the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) wirelessly to the router, this router would have to be another AirPort or one of a very few non-AirPort products that will work in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
Would this cause any latency problems?
Most likely, but that will depend on the two routers used in the WDS. If both are AEBSns, then the throughput performance would be competitive with at least 10baseT or 100baseT Ethernet. If not, then using an Ethernet cable may be the better option.

AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Airport Express

I wonder...
I do relase reading other posts that connecting my Airport Express as a client, joining my 802.11n (and 54g compatible network) will slow the whole network down.
But I can't do without the airport express, and I don't want to slow down my WAN 100 MBit internet connection either.
Is there a way to split the networks WITHOUT having to switch to the Airport Express-network when I want to play to the Express in iTunes? Has anyone tried some working configs of how to combine these two in a good way?

Saw a recent post just now...I guess the only solution would be to connect the Express by wire to the Extreme!

Cannot create WDS with Airport Extreme 802.11n and Airport Express b/g

I have gone through all the steps to set up a WDS with my Airport Extreme Dual Band and my Airport Express b/g.
Every time I try to set it up and update the AX the AX disappears from the airport utility and I can no longer see it. I can however set it up to "join a network" just fine.
Anyone have any idea why I cannot do this? I haven't seen anything saying that the AE is not compatible with the AX.
Ideally what I would like to do is have the AX extend the network and then use an ethernet cable to connect it to an imac g4, thus giving the computer "wireless" internet.
Any ideas or suggestions?

So just to clarify even if I was to buy a new "n" AX I would still be relegated to "g" speeds?
That's correct if you use the WDS settings on both the AEBS and AX.
But, if you had the "n" AX, you could configure it to "extend a wireless network" and maintain "n" speeds on the network. There would still be some bandwidth loss...10-15% or so...that's unavoidable unless you go to an ethernet connection method.
Do you think for my application it might be better to just buy a reputable wireless usb dongle?
If I understand correctly, you need an ethernet connection for a computer. Why not consider a pair of ethernet powerline adapters? One device plugs in near your AEBS and the other near the device that needs the ethernet connection. The pseudo ethernet signal is conducted over the AC powerlines in your home. This is the next best choice when you can't run an ethernet cable through the house.
This would be a faster and more stable connection than any type of wireless application. It's plug and play. In addition to the powerline adapters, all you'll need are two short ethernet cables to connect one adapter to a LAN port on the AEBS and another short ethernet cable to connect from the adapter to the G4's ethernet port.
Any electronics superstore will have a selection to look at. The cost is approximately $75-125 for a pair depending on how much speed you choose.

Airport Extreme 802.11n and WDS with 802.11g express

I have an 802.11n Airport Extreme that I have been using with my AppleTV. I have it set to allow for 802.11b/g, since I have an old Powerbook Titanium that cannot be upgraded.
I recently decided to add my Airport Express 802.11g to the mix to act as a bridge for a remote, wired computer. I did this by enabling WDS on the Extreme/Express.
My question is this: by enabling WDS on the extreme, will the AppleTV still be able to connect at 802.11n speeds, or does it get pulled back to 11g? Is there any way to verify/check this on either the Extreme or the AppleTV?

You can check the connection speed of each wireless client attached to a base station using Airport Utility. Launch Airport Utility, click on the Airport button in the toolbar. On the Summary tab you'll see an item called Wireless clients. It shows you how many wireless client devices are connected to that base station.
Click on the words Wireless Clients and you'll get a graph and a list. The graph shows the signal strength of each client. The list shows the client's wireless MAC, the signal and noise levels and the rate at which each device is communicating. On my Extreme-n base stations, I regularly see rates from 1 to 130 and everything inbetween. It looks like each device runs at it's best rate based on signal strength and error rate.
Assuming you know the MAC of your Apple TV (it's on the serial number label) you can see what wireless data rate it's getting this way.
The thing I've noticed is that my Extreme-g base stations seem to connect to clients at higher average rates than my Extreme-n units. In other words, on the g units I'll see more clients at 54 (the max) or 48 and on the n units just a couple will connect at 130 or 54 but most are at lower rates like 27 or 11 (even 2 or 1), even when they are in the same room as the base station.
I find that very odd and would like to understand it. Anybody have any ideas?

Hi, I was hoping someone may be able to provide some advice. I am considering upgrading to the AE (802.11n). However, I am fairly certain that I will need to have a second point somewhere in my home to boost the signal. I have an airport express for airtunes purposes and have read that connecting 802.11g to an 802.11n slows down the network, but does anyone have any specifics? Also any idea of distance capabilities for the new AE? I have three floors I need to provide signal to in my home, currently I have it set up with D-link router and a repeater in a dead area.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Adding "g" devices to a "n" network will reduce the performance slightly, but not all the way down to "g."
Also any idea of distance capabilities for the new AE?
The new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) has an advertised range of "up to twice the range of networks created with the earlier 802.11g standard." However "actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions." In comparison, the earlier 802.11g version had a range of 50' for 802.11g & 150' for 802.11b.
