The info that I have on file indicates that only the WRT-54G versions 4 and under were compatible, so that would be one bridge to cross.
Even if you find that your Cisco/Linksys might be the right version, Apple never published instructions on how to configure the Express devices with other manufactures, so users were left to their own devices to try to figure out how to get things working. Apple's instructions to connect to other Apple devices are in the link below:

The first Express drops the bandwidth (and speed) on the entire network in half and the second halves everything again. So, the result, in effect would be a "g" wireless network running at 25% speed. Few users would consider installing this type of network.
At this point, it becomes one of those things where the fact that you might be able to do something does not mean that there would be much value in doing so. But, it is your decision to decide if you want to try to proceed.

I'm having a problem connecting my BlueRay DVD player and other non-Mac devices to my AirPort Express network. Is there a limit on the number of devices I can connect to the wireless network? I never have a problem connecting a new Apple product (AirBook, iPad) and even a basic laptop. Thanks for your help.
The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) can support up to ten (10) simultaneously connected Wi-Fi clients.

iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???
There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers. -
A few months ago, I purchased a new iMac. I recently created a movie using iMovie. Then I found out that iDVD is not included. So I have the problem that I want to burn a movie that I can play on my DVD player and watch on a television. I rang Applecare and was told that I need a program called BURN.
Is this correct? I can export the movie from iMovie in a m4v format, but I think I need to convert this to iso format before I can burn the disc.
I know there are programs like TOAST that will do this, but it is expensive.
I would be very grateful for any assistance.Burn will not do what you want, and there is no real substutute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?
Apple insists that the entire world has access to fast broadband (and are prepared to pay for the considerable bandwidth usage) and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud, YouTube, Facebook, whatever) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. Stating that they would return their brand new Mac unless they received a copy of iDVD worked for some, but that is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple.
Also, you can complain bitterly via Apple’s Feedback link, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between burning DVDs and distributing home movies by other means. You may feel that Apple should not dictate how you destribute family videos or photos to distant relatives and friends, and should not assume that every user is prepared to pay for the excessive bandwidth usage charged by ISPs for huge downloads from the App Store:

Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that came with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or that comes with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.

In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that. Flexibility and intuitive use of a computer seems to be a thing of the past. -

Get the Apple USB Superdrive. It is available on the Apple store page of the Apple web site. Just look under storage on the left hand column under accessories for the Mac. $79. I have one since I have a lot of DVD's and CD' s. I burn DVD's made from movies created with iMovie. Works fine. You may be able to find one cheaper at Other World Computing.
BTW, you can expect that future computers will not have optical disk drives. This is definitely true for Apple and I suspect other mfgrs will also as we move more into streaming video and downloading of apps rather than selling CD/DVD versions.

Westell 7500 modem bridged to Linksys WRT-54g connectivity issue
Hello,
I have been trying to bridge my Westell VersaLink 7500 to my Linksys WRT-54g V8.0 flashed with dd-wrt.
1. I started by hard resetting both the router and modem
2. Disabled the walled garden.
3. Went into My Network > Network Connections > Broadband Connections > VC's edit > Changed Protocol from PPPoE to Bridge
4. Changed Bridge mode to Bridge
-Hit Apply
5. Went back to My Network > Network Connections > LAN > Unchecked Private LAN DHCP Server Enable box
-Hit Apply
6. Went back to My Network > Wireless Access Point > Turned off Wireless.
-Hit Apply
Turned off modem.
Unplugged Ethernet from Westell and plugged into LAN port on Linksys
1.Went to 192.168.1.1
2.Reset UN and PW
3. Went to Setup
3. Changed Router IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.254.1
4.Clicked Connection Type > Changed
Auto Config to PPPoE (found out by Westell that I am in a PPPoE area)
5. Used UN and PW credentials from Westell router as UN and PW for PPPoE Wan Connection
6. Hit apply changes
7. Waited for router to reboot.
8. Went to Wireless > Changed SSID and Password to my liking.
9. Hit apply.
10. Went to status > WAN > hit connect > CONNECTED
Unplugged Linksys WRT-54g
1.Plugged one Ethernet cable into the Westell 4/Data port > to the Internet WAN port on Linksys
2. Plugged another Ethernet from LAN port 3 to PC
3. Turned on Router waited untill Power light, Ethernet 4 light and DSL light came on.
4. Plugged in Router and waited untill it was up and running.
5.Turned on PC
6. No internet.
7.Released and Renewed ip in cmd (ran as admin) still nothing.
8. Default Gateway is 192.168.254.1 as is DHCP Server and DNS Server.
Can someone tell me what is wrong and/or why this is not working and how to fix it.Changing the Westell VersaLink 7500 to Bridge Mode
n order to use third-party routers with your Westell VersaLink 7500 gateway, you must first change your VersaLink gateway to Bridge mode.
Note: The setup screens may vary slightly from the ones included below, depending on when you purchased your VersaLink gateway and the firmware running on it.
To change your Westell VersaLink 7500 gateway to Bridge mode:
Log in to the Westell VersaLink 7500 gateway by entering http://192.168.1.1 in your browser’s address bar.
When prompted, enter your gateway's user name and password. [Show Me]
Note: The default User Name is admin and password is password.
From the main menu, click My Network.
Updating the connection settings
Click Network Connections in the left navigation panel. [Show Me]
Click Broadband Connection (DSL).[Show Me]
Under the VC’s section, click the Edit icon. [Show Me]
Select Bridge from the Protocol drop-down menu.
Select routed bridge in the Bridge Mode field. [Show Me]
Click OK to confirm you want to reset your modem. The Westell gateway will now reset itself.
Turning wireless off
Once the modem resets, the main page will display. If the main page doesn't display, clickMain.
Note: When configuring the Westell VersaLink 327W or 7500 to bridge mode, the wireless settings must be disabled. Once the device is configured to bridge mode, you may then re-enable wireless.
Click Wireless Settings. [Show Me]
Click Basic Security Settings in the left navigation panel. [Show Me]
Turn off Wireless by selecting Off.
Scroll to the bottom of the window and click Apply.
Click OK when the warning displays that your wireless access will be interrupted. [Show Me]
Changing the LAN settings
You will be redirected to the main page. If the main page doesn't display, click Main.
Click My Network. [Show Me]
Click Network Connections.[Show Me]
Click LAN.
Remove the check from the Private LAN DHCP Server Enable box.
Click Apply.
Turning wireless back on
Click OK if a warning displays that enabling private LAN will disable public LAN. [Show Me]
The modem is now in Bridge Mode. Close the window if you don't want to re-enable wireless and continue with Step 26. To enable wireless, continue with Step 22 - 25 below.
Click Wireless Settings. [Show Me]
Click Basic Security Settings. [Show Me]
Select On under "Turn Wireless On."
Your VersaLink gateway is now in Bridge mode with wireless enabled. Close the VersaLink configuration window.
The last step before you're ready to connect your third-party router is to terminate any active TCP/IP connections on your network. -
WRT-54GS wireless broadband router speed vs wired speed
Why is the wireless speed for my WRT-54GS wireless broadband router about twice as fast as when I connect through one of the ethernet ports on the WRT-54GS? This effects my decission on upgading my family's PCMCIA cards and whether it makes sense to introduce a HomePlug to get the signal to my desktop PC.
And why is my DSL modem coming in at 100mps but no where near that after it passes through the WRT54-GS wirelss router?

I have the ipad 1, Ios 5.1 is its max, and garage band requires ios 7.0, how do i buy garage band version 1.3, its the only one that will work, apple is so hard to get a hold of on these kind of things.

Dvd studio pro: DVDs won't work on DVD player and windows computer

I have burnt some dvds on DVD Studio Pro I checked they were set to SD and PAL and have played them on my MAC and DVD player no problem but now I am hearing back from my client that they tried playing them on their windows computer and laptop and their DVD player and it isn't working what could be the reason for this?
From MikeYou can see if they have another software player available. Usually VLC is a good option. Windows player can be a bit all over the place depending on patches of the OS and other items. I have encountered some strange things, including people claiming that DVDs I have authored were doing things that had nothing to do with the DVD (beyond the scope of what a DVD can do, etc.)
When you say DVD Player, does this mean they are also trying to play it in a DVD Player (real player and not in computer?) How did you burn the DVD? Straight from DVD SP? Check first play settings and other items?
These are some of the first things I would be starting with, particularly if real DVD players (not in computers) are concerned. It also can be something as small as dirt or scratches on the DVD itself. Some machines can be better at compensating than others are. -
Burning DVD for DVD Player and Computer

I thought that I saw this somewhere here, but after looking for it for the past 1 1/2 hours (Unsuccessfully I might add , I thought that I would just ask.
When I burn a project to a DVD using Quicktime and iDVD, I can view it on a DVD player and on my Apple computers, but not on a windows based machine. Can I burn a DVD that will play on any computer? How?

BrianCould well be a +R issue. The player must be able to read +R.
-R is the most universal and should play on just about any DVD machine.
I noticed that the older the machine the more things things can go wrong for no apparent reason. Later model stuff play just about anything even +R, dual layer, RAM etc. Always check the player specs if you have them.

how do I show my keynote file on a dvd player and control the slides with the skip or next chapter command on the dvd remote? when I export to quicktime, it changes slides on a timed basis. I want the chapter button on a dvd remote to act like a mouse click would.

You have to export the individual slides from your Keynote presentation, and then import them into your DVD application.
I use DVDStudioPro - it works fine this. I'm sure iDVD will be OK.Going via QT has never worked for me.

I want to hook up my dvd player, and I know that uverse router won't work. I cannot hook it up to my tv because my tv is built into the wall. If I bought a wireless dvd, would it work with uverse?
Sorry, U-verse cannot take any input from others & I have never seen a DVD that can connect to a TV wireless.
I have seen TVs with built in DVDs. BUt, you do not want a new TV.
How is the uverse box connected to the TV? Is it the same as you want to use for the dvd. Unplug the U-verse & plug it in to the DVD. If you can do that you can get an HDMI switch.
How about jacks on the side or front of the TV. What is model numbers on TV & DVD?
To go back to the wireless - I believe Chromecast is a wireless connection to the TV. Can you plug a dongle in to an HDMI jack on the TV?
You would then play your DVD on your computer & cast it wirelessly to the TV via the chromecast. -

Do you think there would be a update that will Features a Retina Display, Siri etc ??
So my iMac will be the same as the new one that will be released this year,
Or will I have to buy a new iMac to get all these new updates ??

The iMac you have is an excellent machine, be happy with it and get a good few years use out of it. By the time your machine is slowing down, whatever comes next will have been updated numerous times.

Updated to Yosemite, no problem. now iPhoto and iMovie won't open. Says I need to update software however, when i try to update indicates my User ID and PW won't work for these two pieces of software. User ID and PW works everywhere else.
I am having the same problem. I even changed my password and updated all of my security information. Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work. Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00. So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid. Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?
