I have a macbook pro 10.8.5 and the Application Safari will not open no matter what i do, I try to open the menu of Safari but it won't let me either, the mouse will just be loading. Each time i open it, it says "Application Not Responding" and I try opening it in my Finder and it'll say "The Application 'Safari' cannot be opened." and below that it'll say "-1712" Please help? You have a choice as to whether or not applications in Lion like Word or Preview (or even Safari) save and re-open previous documents or windows... just hold down the option key while quitting a program and when you re-open it you won't get the previous documents or windows when you re-open the application. You can see this by selecting the open program in the menu bar and when holding down the option key the quit function will change to quit and discard open windows. This feature in Lion is referred to as "Resume" and is great if you want to restart an app and return to what you're doing (for example in Safari re-opening existing windows and tabs from your previous session). You still have the option to close individual windows within an app before quitting and they will not re-open when the app is launched again.
This Resume function is not related to saving your work (a word or text document for example). This is handled by Lion's "Auto-Save" and "Versions" functions. See http://www.apple.com/ca/macosx/whats-new/auto-save.html

The current iCloud isn't meant for backing up Macs. It's only for mobile devices.
The beta iCloud Photo Library in iOS 8 will store photos in the iCloud for access from other mobile devices for from iCloud.com. The new Photos app under development for OS X on Macs will not be released until sometime this spring. It will have the capability of storing and accessing photos from iCloud.
iCloud Drive is for sharing documents between multiple devices signed in to the same iCloud ID. When the new Photos application is released the space purchased for iCloud will be available for the photo storage system. -

You need to take your MacBook Pro to your Apple store genius bar and check that they will do the upgrade for you...price for 4 GB memory used to be $200 but you will have to check with them for the current cost.
You can also check with OWC, http://www.macsales.com and see what their cost is and decide if you want to do it yourself. Cost will be about half of that at the Apple store. -

I have a Macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (2011). Will Lion, Mountain Lion or Marverick makes it run faster or slower?
Snow Leopard is still the most efficient OSX from Apple. I have a late 2011 MBP running Lion with no performance issues.
I suggest the following; Install 8 GB RAM if you do not have that already. (The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial). The newer OSX's are trifle more RAM hungry.
Partition your HDD and install one of the newer OSX's in the new partition and try it out. This allows you to 'retreat' to Snow Leoprad if you find the newer OSX is not to your liking.
Also note that the newer OSX's do not support PPC applications. That means that there is a possibility that some of your current applications will not work and may have to be updated or replaced.

The only problem that I forsee is that some have reported problems getting machine-specific builds of Lion via Internet Recovery. Not sure if it's working yet or not. But you could give it a shot, I suppose. Basically what you want to do is 'prepare your computer for resale' - just like it came out of the box. Kappy, a pretty wonderful and very knowledgeable man, has tip for that which I have copied and will paste below:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
