I have a Macbook Pro and a HP 5510 printer. And suddenly a problem printing.

I have a Macbook Pro, fully updated et cetera, and a HP 5510 printer, with all the updates as well. When I lived in my old place, I never had a significant problem getting the computer and the printer to work together. But I moved in January and even since then I haven't been able to successfully print anything. I've run every diagnostic on the printer, and it is connected to the right wireless network. The macbook pro is connected to the same wireless network, but will not connect to the printer.
Of course at first I blamed it on the printer, but since January I've been trying everything - I even got a friend to bring over her Macbook pro, and it connected and printed just fine. So obviously this is a problem with the computer.
So what can I do?
Terribly sorry if this has been answered somewhere else, but I've been searching and no one that I've found has the same, or similar enough, situation going on.
Thank you, and help me please!

I have a macbook pro with OSX 10.9.3 and Safari 7.0.4. How do I remove BING FROM SEARCHING when i type something into the search bar

See below if the search engine setting was changed without your knowledge and you can't change it back.
You installed the "Genieo/InstallMac" rootkit. The product is a fraud, and the developer knowingly distributes an uninstaller that doesn't work. I suggest the tedious procedure below to disable Genieo. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the rootkit (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data. You must know how to restore from a backup even if the system becomes unbootable. If you don't know how to do that, or if you don't have any backups, stop here and ask for guidance.
    Step 1
In the Applications folder, there may (or may not) be an application named "Genieo". Genieo may be partially installed even if this item is absent. If it's present, select it and open the Finder Info window. If it shows that theVersion is less than 2.0, download and install the current version from the genieo.com website. This may seem paradoxical, since the goal is to remove it, but you'll be saving yourself some trouble as well as the risk of putting the system in an unusable state.
There should be another application in the same folder named "Uninstall Genieo". After updating Genieo, if necessary, launch "Uninstall Genieo" and follow the prompts to remove the "newspaper-style home page." Restart the computer.
This step does not completely inactivate Genieo.
    Step 2
Don't take this step unless you completed Step 1, including the restart, without any error messages. If you didn't find the Genieo application, or if you couldn't complete Step 1 for any reason, stop here and ask for instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder should open with an item named "GenieoExtra.framework" selected. Move that item to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password.
Move each of these items to the Trash in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    /usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib/usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckit.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those listed above, move them as well. There's no need to restart after each one. Some of these items will be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
    Step 3
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including ones called "Genieo" or "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Spigot" or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Your web browser(s) should now be working, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install this software. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad has a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If youever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Genieo developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the perpetrator of the scam sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." He will tell you to run the provided uninstaller. As he knows and intends, the uninstaller does not completely remove the malware.

  • I have a MacBook Pro laptop purchased in June 2011, and the superdrive no longer works.  Rather than have it replaced, I'll buy a 3rd party superdrive that plugs into the USB port.  Does it need it's own power source, or will the USB port suffice?

I have a MacBook Pro laptop purchased in June 2011, and the superdrive no longer works.  Rather than have it replaced, I'll buy a 3rd party superdrive that plugs into the USB port.  Does the external superdrive need it's own power source, or will the USB port provide enough power?

The Apple external SuperDrive actually exceeds the allowed power draw. Because of this, it is only trouble-free on certain models that accommodate this excess.
All others require an external Power source.

  • I have a macbook pro with IOS 10.6.8 and my itunes is version 11.0.1, can I airplay to an apple TV?

please help, I have a macbook pro with a IOS 10.6.8 operating system, I just opperated my ituned to version 11.0.1. Can I airplay my macbook to an apple tv?

On Snow Leopard, you can't use AirPlay Mirroring, but if you upgrade to Mountain Lion, you will be able to use AirPlay MIrroring > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If you want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, first make a backup of your files. Then, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion, and follow the steps to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Check if your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
If you don't want to upgrade Mac OS X, you can also install AirParrot > http://www.roaringapps.com
If you are referring to AirPlay on iTunes, you can do it. The AirPlay icon will appear on the iTunes toolbar when your computer detects the Apple TV

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I have a MacBook Pro book running OS10.5.8 and need to upgrade to 10.7. Do I have to update all other versions inbetween or can I go from 10.5.8. directly to 10.7?

How do I upgrade my MacBook Pro from OS10.5.8 to the lastest software, which I believe is 10.7?
This is a company computer and the guy who had it before me never kept up with updates. Now I have some audio hardware whose software will only operate with 10.7. Do I have to upload all versions between 10.5.8 to get to the lastest firmware or can I go directly from 10.5.8 to 10.7? I've downloaded the 10.7 upgrade from the apple web site but when it finished downloading I received a message stating that I needed earlier software.
If I need to go through all of these other versions, where to I find them all and how many are there please?
    Thanks

To upgrade from Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion - you need to upgrade your current OS to Snow Leopard...
You can call Apple and order Snow Leopard and after you've upgraded to Snow Leopard, you can decide from there if you want to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion.
If you want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, click HERE to see if your Macbook is supported by ML.

    Hi shesmart2,
So it sounds as if you are not getting video from your MacBook Pro to your external TV display via the HDMI cable. I would suggest looking at this article to start with -

  • I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 which has suddenly began running terribly slow

I was using AIM messenger and either looking up something on Facebook or YouTube when my computer froze.
It took a couple of minutes to respond again but I noticed that it continually lagged and kept freezing if I kept trying to do multiple things at once.
I thought restarting my computer would be a good idea, see if that would help & that's where I noticed the biggest difference.
My computer can generally be turned on and fully logged-in within 1 minute, but it now takes me up to 12 minutes to do the same process. Once I have turned the computer on, it will take the most time to just get to the log-in screen, after I have entered my password, it is fairly quick.
Once logged-in my computer is running a little better, but still freezes for a small period of time before it all catches up very quickly.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Melophage,
Sorry for the late reply, I've been offline for a little while.

Snow Leopard is back on the online Apple Store, at least in some countries. In the US:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If it's not listed on the web site of the Apple Store in your country, call the online Apple Store,; they may still have copies of Snow Leopard available .
If they no longer have it available, you'll need to look to private sellers, and the prices are rising quickly. If you buy from a private seller, make sure you get the retail disk set (white label with a picture of a Snow Leopard), not the system disks from another model of Mac (grey label).
Once you get the disk, install the OS and run Software Update to get to the latest version of 10.6 and iTunes. You should then be able to sync.
    Regards.

No, not without enabling Home Sharing, which would require using the same Apple ID and the other account holder's consent.

  • I have 2 Macbook Pros running 10.6! One was my sales guy and I would like to transfer my contents to his whilst retaining all his information?

    Hi Guy's,
I have run Mac for the last 10 years! I am sick to the back teeth of them now! I am seriously considering going back to Bill......
I have two Macbook pro's, they are company Macs and I own them. My sales guy has left tthe company and his Mac was a couple of years younger than
mine and a larger memory faster processor etc...
I would like to transfer all of my contents to the younger version, Iphotos, itunes, apps, docs, mail and all? Whilst retaining all of the info still on the newer version. I have backed up onto a 1Tb hard drive (iomega) and thats where the trouble has started.......
It will not let me transfer across, you know the story......different user, keychain, system already exists etc etc.
Is there an easy way of having one access (without it keeping the original user hidden away to P*ss you off from time to time) i don't want to see his name appear now or in the future, just my name, on my Macs, that I bought with, my money.........
Sorry, but really annoyed at the minute....
    PJ

Well there is Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder and that's designed to migrate user accounts from a same or older machine to a newer one. But that comes later.
You want to retain the previous owners data but want to delete his name from the machine, so your going to need to have Admin access on that newer machine or access to his account to get the data off the machine first to a external drive by copying the users folders (music, pictures, movies, documents etc.)
To get the old user off the machine unfortunalty requires wiping the entire drive of all data, including programs installed and the operating system and all accounts, then installing OS X fresh again and setting it up like a brand new machine.
Apple squirrels the original user name all over the machine, and the only way to get rid of it all is to wipe the drive completely.
Once OS X is reinstalled, and you go through the setup process, the Setup Assistant will transfer the User account of the older machine to the newer one via Firewire Target Disk Mode, or via a external TimeMachine drive made on the older machine. Then you can transfer the user data from the backup drive you made earlier.

    Most commonly used backup methods
If this is all too much for you to grasp at this time, just take the machine's to a local Mac software service and they will do it all for you.

  • Have a MacBook Pro running Lion and an IMac running Snow Leopard. Want to Back up both images and restore on opposite machine. Essentially swapping images between hard drives. Is this possible and any "gotcha's" to look for? Thanks

Have a MacBook Pro running Lion (10.7.9) and an IMac running Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Want to Back up both images and restore on opposite machines. Essentially swapping images between hard drives. Is this possible and any "gotcha's" to look for? Thanks

If the MBP came with Lion, it most likely won't boot with SL. Easiest thing to do is create a bootable backup/clone of each to an ext HD, partitioned to hold each on a separate volume, ensure that the original machines can boot with their respective clones, and finally, try booting the other machine with the other clone. Images are useless since you can't boot with them to test them out.
