I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions and not have to pay to have the entire main board replaced. Preferably something under $100.
I don't think you're likely to find a set of external speakers that come with a microphone and plug directly into a USB port. There are USB audio cards that look like tiny flash drives but have microphone and headphone ports in them, to which you can connect a typical two-plug Windows PC headset with a microphone, or else you can connect external speakers and a stand-alone microphone. Those adapters typically cost under $10. I don't know anything about the quality of sound that can be expected from them.
I have a Griffin iMic, which is much the same idea but larger, a bit more expensive (retail~$40), and perhaps delivers somewhat better sound quality (I hope so, but I don't know because I've never had occasion to try one of the little ones).

I have a MacBook Pro laptop purchased in June 2011, and the superdrive no longer works. Rather than have it replaced, I'll buy a 3rd party superdrive that plugs into the USB port. Does the external superdrive need it's own power source, or will the USB port provide enough power?
The Apple external SuperDrive actually exceeds the allowed power draw. Because of this, it is only trouble-free on certain models that accommodate this excess.
All others require an external Power source. -
I connected my iPod Touch to a stereo system phono input using a cable with stereo jacks (red and white) on one end and that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack. The problem is that the sound is extremely muffled and bass-heavy, with little treble. I have to turn the bass control on the stereo receiver to pratically zero in order for the sound coming through the stereo to be acceptable. Is there a setting on either the iPod or the stereo that I need to change in order to fix this?
The phono input is for a phonograph. The iPod does headphne output is not that same as a phongraph output. Does th stero have an AUX input? That should be compatible.

Is there a device I can purchase to enable wifi on my old iMac, like something that plugs into the ethernet port?
Yes! There are lots of wifi adapters that will work with OS 9 on old iMacs. You can find a comprehensive list of them here:
http://lowendmac.com/macdan/md09/mac-os-9-wifi.html
Belkin seems to make a lot of wireless products for OS 9, so that would probably be the name to keep in mind. You can see one of these here:

If you're using an iMac G3, I think those are compatible with AirPort cards, so that's an option too. Good luck! -
I am using Aperture 3 and I have just exported the edited picture to my desktop but the image which is now on my desktop appears to be unedited. Does anyone know why??
Did you export the master or version? Master will be unedited...

I have my emails set up on my I phone and want the emails to be marked read if I access them from my laptop, does anyone know how to do this?
YOu would have to set it up as an IMAP account, which would depend on what email service you are using.

I just bought my macbook pro 2 weeks ago and have noticed that when I go to start it up, it takes longer to power up than when I first bought it. Does anyone know why this may be and of a fix for it?
Hi. It could be that the more you pile on the HD, the longer it will take to boot. When I first bought my MBP, it took maybe 30 seconds. But as I began putting more content on the HD, it seemed to take a bit longer to boot. You may also want to consider putting your MBP in sleep mode. That's what I do with mine and it doesn't hurt at all as far as I can tell.

Tripped over cord and broke the piece that plugs into the wall
I've heard a lot about people breaking the piece of the power adapter that plugs into the PowerBook but I have never heard of anyone breaking the other end.
Last night I tripped over the cord and shattered the piece that plugs into the wall (Apple PN 922-5863) This is not the big white thing with the apple on it.. it is just the plug. The PB ships with a 3 prong 5 foot long alternitive so there is no emergency but I would like to replace it at some point.
I called Apple and they recommend getting a whole new apapter (85 bucks) which seems to be a tad extreme for a little piece of plastic that is completely seperate from the adapter.
There is a World Adapter kit for 40 bucks that contains one of these little guys. But again, 40 dollars seems a bit extreme for this little guy.
My question is this... This piece is a common part in Apple wall adapters.. it seems to be a component piece part of the iPod Wall adapters, PowerBook, iBook, AirPort Express, etc. What is the least expensive way for me to get my hands on one of these wall-plug-adapter things?
Thanks,
-cdIf it's the localised plug part that is broken you don't need to exactly replace it but in its stead use a standard C8 (figure 8) power cord. If you don't have one spare you can always get a really cheap one from most stores that carry electrical cables such as Radio Shack, Walmart etc etc.

I don't know of there is anyone than can fix this age old Apple problem. Does anyone know how to retrieve apps under an old Apple ID when the email used for that account no longer exists & I can't remember the password? After speaking with Apple Acct. Security, I got the security Q right but my birthday was wrong! They wanted the serial number from my phone that was 3 iPhones ago! Seriously??!!
Any updated way to work around this? No Apple people can correct it.
Thanks,
JoeYou need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

Hello, alot of my space taken up on my ipod nano is listed under (other) I don't know what this is but it sure takes up most of the space on my ipod. Does anyone know what (Other) refers to and how to remove it.?Thx
Hello Norman,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. To find out what the Other section is on your iPod Nano, the following will explain what the Other section is all about.
Understanding capacity on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1867
Once that is complete, then check the appropriate sections to see what is there. If you cannot isolate the issue then you may need to restore the iPod Nano. The following will assist with the restore process.

hello, does anyone know why when i drag and drop from the internet, why my images never show up?
I'm wanting to drag images from the internet into a folder on my desktop or hard drive. I am used to being able to drag just about any image from any website off the web and into a folder on my old mac, but since I got my laptop, I've noticed I cannot do that. Is it a preference?

I am going to japan with an Ipod nano and Iphone 4. Do I need a converter? or does the one the iphone comes with that plugs into the wall enough? I know i wont need an adapter because it will fit into the wall outlet, but voltage wise, will i need a converter? Japan runs on 100 V. I am so confused on all of this...
As long as the adapter is 2 pronged, then you should be able to use it without any problems.
