There are many online tutorials on how to change out the HD on a mid 2007 iMac. One of the originals is from 2007 and is Upgrade your iMac 20" or iMac 24" aluminum (mid 2007) to 1TB Hard Drive and 4 GB RAM - DIY Guide. As far as migrating your system Apple helps out with that in Setup Assistant which automatically starts when you turn on a new Mac for the first time. After you have installed the new HD you will have to format the new HD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then you will have to install OS X. The first time you turn it on Setup Assistant will start. Follow the directions and you will be fine. In order to restore your information you will need to backup what is on the current internal HD first. I'd recommend using Time Machine (Assuming you are using Leopard or later) AND also creating a bootable clone using either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.

Yesterday, I tried a SEAGATE SSHD but my screen was always a showing a QUESTION MARK (?). It's not the cable because when I put back the old original version, everything works...Any sugestion of brabnding or procédure to upgrade my hard drive?The largest 2.5" dia SATA drives available are 2 TB in capacity.
Have you tried the Seagate SSHD connected externally to the MBP via USB? The drive itself may be faulty.

If it's the same computer, same CPU and same HD, no de-activation or re-activation should be necessary.
Install from scratch and apply all updates manually.
Please do a forum search. I and others have repeatedly answered the question about failed updates of CS5 a whole bunch of times recently.
Bottom line: the Adobe auto updater is utterly useless in CS5 and prior versions. You need to download the updates and apply them manually yourself.

If you have a processor of 867 MHz or faster and a minimum of 512 MB of RAM, you can run OS X Leopard, updated to 10.5.8.
That's as far as a G4 can go.

My Imac takes about 8 minutes to be fully functional after a restart or awakened from the sleep mode. I can hear the hard drive making a number of gyrations before it's ready to let me do stuff. This is a 5 year old machine and was much faster in the beginning. Any suggestions?
Impossible to say however it may need more RAM, or if you have been turning it off every day it isn't given the opportunity to run it's daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. This is all done in the background in the middle of the night. I would recommend following the steps in 25 Ways to Speed Up Your Mac until you find the cause of your slowdown.

I just want my computer to go to sleep on it's own, as the hard drive will spin for days unless I manually select "sleep" from the menu. The screen automatically does go to sleep at the preset 7 minute mark though, and ideas for a fix?
Nevermind, I found this answer, and to my total surprise, it worked!! I opened activity monitor, and all kinds of junk was running, so I closed a lot of stuff out, and now, my iMac goes to sleep like a good little computer! Here's the answer in case this question comes up in a search:

If you have any applications running that can keep your iMac from sleeping. You can check in user(you)/application/utilities/Activity monitor. Just open Activity Monitor and you can see what's running. Just my 2 cents but if you check "put hard disks to sleep" in energy saver and have your screen turn off after 15 minutes since you used it. IMO that's a better way to go since you can schedule all the background things to happen when you don't need you Mac. Such as software update, spotlight indexing, idisk syncing, ect. Secondly, either of the drives that you've chosen should work well in your MacBook Pro. "Micron" is also the manufacturer of the Crucial SSD. I'm just a bit skeptical about the first because of the unknown nature of the beast... and I doubt that it has the most recent technology built into the Crucial M500 480GB.
You can buy from Crucial or through OWC - I would just pick the one with the cheaper price but I would definitely get the M500 series over the somewhat 'older' (based upon m4 technology, I'm betting) Micron drive.

It will only be where you put it.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod. File>Transfer Purchases. -
The good news after my hard drive was replaced during Apple's Seagate replacement program -- all my data and settings reinstalled seamlessly through Time Machine and my external hard drive. Bad news? My BT keyboard will now only forward delete when I hit the delete key rather than backward delete. I find this so ironic since I hated this feature when I switched from PC to Mac, but now I'm totally used to it. I tried resetting the default under system preferences, but it didn't help. Otherwise, keyboard works perfectly. This is so strange. Anyone have any suggestions? Oh -- and now I see my arrows don't work either.

Transferring files over from the hard drive of a previous computer. How can I get my library back?
A couple weeks ago, my old, old laptop finally breathed its last breath and shut off suddenly while I was using it. Various parts of it were broken anyway so I got a new one rather than try to figure out what was wrong with it. All of my files were totally undamaged since it wasn't a hard drive issue, so I just got one of those enclosure things where you unscrew your old hard drive, stick it into the enclosure, plug it into your new computer with a USB cord, and then can drag all your old files onto the new computer.
I could get all my old music back this way by dragging those folders, but if I want to get my library back -- specifically, my playlists, and ideally my info on play counts/date added/etc -- is there a way that I can do that? Is there some "Library" file, series of files, or folder that I can drag onto my new laptop in order to get those things back without having to recreate all my playlists and lose my play info?
Have been running Windows 7 on both my old and current laptop, and was using iTunes version 10.7.0.21, if that information is necessary. Can give you whatever other info you'd need. Thanks!1. I am currently in Zambia on missions work and my computer is constantly exposed to heat. I have just been trying to avoid using it during the hottest part of the day. Today though, I started it up and it was stuck on the grey page with the rotating circle for over an hour, then once the circle left, it remained frozen on the gray page. I used command + r at startup to go to the utilities page to analyze the disk. It found that there were problems with the disk, but then it could not fix those problems and told me to backup as much information as I could and reinstall or redo it all. I haven't ever used time machine to back up any of my information, but i have an external drive that I can use right now to backup my files. I can't get into my computer though to backup the files. How can I use this external drive to backup my files while the computer is currently messed up? Please help.
Emergency Backups (Data Recovery)
A) Format an external disk:
(This will erase all data on the external disk.)
Boot in recovery mode (power then Command-R).
Alternative: Network recovery boot (power then Command-Option-R keys)
To format (and erase) the destination recovery disk:
Plug in the drive you are about to erase.
Select the volume that is NOT your system disk.
Click on Partition.
Pull down under Partition Layout to 1 Partition.
Click on Options…
Select GUID Partition Table.
Name: Emergency Backup (or whatever you prefer)
Format: Select Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Click Apply.
Click Partition.
B) Try to boot in Safe Mode (power then Shift key).
(This will be a slow boot. Be patient.)
If it won’t boot in Safe Mode, jump to C.
If it boots in Safe Mode, try to boot in normal mode.
If that fixed your problem then start a Time Machine backup.

Double click on the system disk.
Drag the Users folder to the recovery disk.
C) To clone the disk:
Boot in recovery mode.

Drag an drop Emergency Backup to Destination:
(Take care not to reverse this order.)
Click Restore (the lower Restore button).
Once your system is healthy, maintain two reasonably current backups. (Time machine restores can fail.)
Create either two Time Machine backups (good) or one or more Time Machine backup(s) and one or more bootable-clone backup(s) (better).
Use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to create bootable-clone recovery disks.

To start in Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting. Then, open Disk Utility and create a partition formatted with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", if it hasn't been already created. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
