I have a very tiny, fuzzy black speck on the screen of my Macbook Pro 15". It doesn't resemble dead pixels I've encountered in the past (it is only visible behind a white or brightly colored background), and I'm positive it isn't sitting on the surface. The computer is only a year and a half old and my software is up to date.

Hi austinbread,
It is hard to tell exactly what your issue with the MacBook Pro’s display is, but it is possible that there is a pixel anomaly. See this article for further information -

  • How can i get rid of a black speck behind the screen?

Brand new, quad 2.8 GHZ Intel iMac. Beautiful. But has a black speck in the screen. How on earth would i get rid of this? I'm quite positive it's not on the screen. i've wiped it very firmly w/ the cloth provided. the thing is simply on the other side. Ideas?

    Hi Peter,
If you can take it back to the Apple store (assuming you bought it from one). I had similar with a 24" iMac last year and they just replaced it there and then no questions, no arguing. They even transferred all my Data to the new machine. It was hassle free and I walked out of the store with a brand new replacement iMac set up like my original machine.
Don't try doing anything to it yourself if it is brand new, it will void your warranty.

  • What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for? How do I get to it?

I have a MacBook Pro (2011 Model & 13") and I was wondering . . . What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for and how do I get to it?
P.S.  I feel stupid asking this question  . . ..  . because I know those who answer will know exactly about it and what to do with it . .

To be honest when I first got it, I thought I broke that hole . . . see I assumed it was a button to eject the CD slot, and I managed to either push it in deep enough, or smash it off. . .. .  I once got a tooth pick and fiddled around in there in atempt to find something. . ..

  • HT1338 The screen on my MacBook Pro keeps going black.  This is happening more frequently.  I have had it in to the Apple store multiple times and they can't find a problem.

My MacBook Pro screen keeps going black.  This is happening more frequently.  I have had it in to the Apple store several times for this and they can't find anything wrong other than it is locked up for a while.  Since it is happening more and more, I am worried that at some point this will be permanent.

Has it actually happened at the store?
If not then we need to get it to do that. Now it may be completely random but you need to try and make a note of as many things as possible that happen when it does it.
How long has it been on for, what are you doing at the time, what's connected. If it's reproducible then you've at least got somewhere.

  • Hi, a week ago the option of update came on the screen of my macbook pro, it then offered to restart and will not boot up. The fan is running but no screen. Please help as I have tried everything.

Hi, a week ago my macbook pro wanted to do an update, so I clicked yes, it went on to do the normal and then offered to restart, since then I have not be able to restart. I have tried almost everything. When I turn on the power button, all you can hear are the fans and nothing else. Its not very old, does anyone know what I can do as I dont seem to be able to get any support from apple.

By everything, I am assuming you have tried resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964) and PRAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379). If you haven't tried this yet, please do!
See the following support document as well: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367.
The update you're talking about was the firmware update. Hopefully resetting the PRAM gets you up and running. Try resetting it 3 times in a row (hold the keys down until you hear 3 startup chimes).

  • The screen of my macbook pro remains black and blank. I need help

My computer screens fails to come on at start up. It just stays black and blank. I have tried a couple of reboot sessions but all to no avail. Can anyone out there help me please.
    Daddee

The only people that can help you are those at an Apple store.
Your Mac is broken and needs to be repaired. That is IF you get absolutely nothing on the screen after pressing the powwr button.

  • I have Dust inside of the screen of my macbook pro, it has accumulated now and is a big hindrance. Is there any way to clean it

Its a Mac book Pro (Late 2012). Dust is in the display, and its annoying how its in the center of the screen

Hi. the glass in front of the display on the 2012 macbook pro is held on by magnets. If can be removed, but it's tricky. At the store they use a suction cup. The Imac is the same way and I have remove the glass on them. I did it by inserting a thin but sturdy piece of plastic starting at the upper corner and working around the top edge. You have to be very careful or you can crack it. It would be safer to take it in to apple store. I know if too much dust get on the screen between the glass and the lcd it will kind of burn into it.

Sorry, I am sending now the image again:
Anyway, my screen is getting back to normal now (it is just light blue) but I am curious to understand why it happens (just after 2 months it happened again).
In the country where I am right now we don't have an Apple Store, so any recommendation how I can find out if the problem is the screen or graphic card/sub-system?
    Thank you so much

  • Why did the screen on my MacBook Pro turn black and ask me to hold down the power button to restart and then when I restarted it. ALL the work i had done was gone???

How do I get back what I lost. When I was forced to shut down my computer?

None of us knows why your screen turned black - it's the most serious form of crash, and yes, almost all the changes that you didn't save are lost.
An exception are the audio recordings - they should still sit in the project package of your song. Locate the project in the Finder, ctrl-click it and select "Show package content". The Media folder will contain all your recordings.

  • The screen on my macbook pro is broke I have to use a clothes peg to get it to work

so basically unless I pinch a certain part of my screen it wont display things correctly Im currently using a clothes peg and its doing the job well but it would be nice to just have it working without me having to do this
im wondering how I can fix it im thinking there is an issue with the contacts im just not to adept with macs as far as repair goes I just need to have somethng pinching the bottom right corner of my screen for it to work

    Try resetting your SMC.
Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: This will not delete any data.
The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
Release the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
    I hope I helped.

No patterns, it just crashes. Happens every couple of days or so.

Hold down SHIFT - CTRL - ALT(Option) same time with the POWER BUTTON for a quick 2 seconds then let go and normally turn on your computer

I bougnt my S5 a month ago and I am having two major issues.  The screen is very slow to respond.  When the screen is dark and I press the home button, it doesn't come on.  I have to press the button anywhere from 4-10 times and then it usually flashes on and back off.  It is very, very frustrating.  The other issue is that the battery drains very quickly.  I have called Verizon numerous times regarding these issues.  They tell me to do different things that never help.  We eventually did a factory reset and it still has the same issues.  Help!  It is a brand new phone and unfortunately I am in a new two year contract.  Ugh. Is there anyone out there who can help me?

I have done that several times.  In fact, every time I call Verizon with my phone problems, they have me do the same things repeatedly.  I keep telling them I have already done them but they insist they are SURE it will work this time.  It never does.  After doing the factory reset and it still not working correctly, they act like they are confused, almost like I am lying.  I did what you suggested above on the slim chance it would work this time but it did not.  I bought two S5's that day and the other one works perfectly fine.  I know I got a bad phone.  Verizon just does not listen.  It is a bad phone.  I just want a new phone that works properly.  Is that too much to ask?  I bought a new phone that has been bad from day one.  Why oh why do I have to spend hours of my time on the phone, in the store, on the computer, trying to rectify this?  It shouldn't be this difficult!  Help please!!!

I have an Iphone 4 with IOS 6 and my emails have disappeared.  I also have a very slow reaction time to my touch screen. Help!

    Hello there, parihargs1.
To troubleshoot display brightness issues the following article provides 2 key steps:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    Of note is the following:
Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.
Display does not adjust brightness automatically
The ambient light sensor brightens the display when using the iPhone in brightly lit environments, and dims the display in low light. To test this sensor, do the following:
If the iPhone is in a protective case, remove it from the case. If there is a protective film on the display, remove the film.
Verify that the Auto-Brightness setting (Settings > Brightness and Wallpaper) is set to ON, and that the Brightness level is set near the middle of the slider.
Press the Home button to return to the Home screen and then press the Sleep/Wake button to lock the iPhone.
In a bright environment, cover the top third of the iPhone to block the light, then press the Sleep/Wake button or the Home button to wake the phone. Slide the slider to unlock the phone.
Notice the brightness of the screen and application icons; they should be somewhat dimmed.
Remove the cover from the top of the display and in a few moments the display should get brighter.
If these steps do not resolve your issue please refer to the "Issue not resolved" section for your next step.
Thansk for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.

Not much you can do other than to take or send your iPad to Apple and pay their replacement charge.
    Regards.
