I have a Windows7 machine that is crashing/restarting, need help troubleshooting

I have a workstation that is stable until an application's service starts.  After a few moments, there is a very short BSOD, followed by a restart.  After looking around, I've found the location where I believe the dumps are supposed to be stored.
However, there is nothing but an old dump file there.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Perry

Hi,
Windows 7 is configured by default to restart after a major system failure like a Blue Screen of Death. Unfortunately, that doesn't give you any opportunity to document the error message so you can solve the problem.
You may disable Automatic Restart on System Failure from the Advanced Boot Options menu in Windows 7 to get the .
a. Before your PC automatically restarts, press the F8 key to enter Advanced Boot Options
b. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, highlight Disable automatic restart on system failure and press Enter.
After disabling the automatic restart on system failure option, Windows 7 may or may not continue to load depending on what kind of Blue Screen of Death or other major system problem Windows 7 is experiencing.
Since you disabled the automatic restart on system failure option in Step 2, Windows 7 will no longer force a restart when it encounters a Blue Screen of Death. Now that you have the STOP Code associated with the Blue Screen of Death, you can troubleshoot the
problem.
You may also refer to the article below to check the issue:
"Resolving stop (blue screen) errors in Windows 7
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Resolving-stop-blue-screen-errors-in-Windows-7
In addition, I would like to suggest you refer to the suggestion provided by Zigzag to find the dumpfiles and check the issue.

Hope it helps.

Yea I am. I deleted Logic Pro 9 and moved the App to the Trashcan like normal. Then when I go to install it, it says its already Installed. When I do this with other apps; it works fine, the install thing comes back up like it should once you have deleted the app

this morning i tried to restore my ipod and it said:"the ipod "ipod cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavalible." i have no idea what to do and i need help.

Update Server
Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem

• I had a problem with my itunes so i had went on itunes website and reinstall itunes for windows and after it complete it said that the feature yoy are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable i need help please!!!!!!!!!

had a problem with my itunes so i had went on itunes website and reinstall itunes for windows and after it complete it said that the feature yoy are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable i need help please!!!!!!!!!

first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the revo uninstaller http://http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
next download itunes. it worked for me hope this is helpful!!
oonce you get into the revo uninstallergo thru to delete itunes hit uninstall on the itunes icon then you will go thru to it will tell u the same nmessage about the feature and network hit cancell then go thru and hit scan (make sure bthe advance scan button is pushed) this will take awhile but go thru the list and hit everything associated with itunes. hit delete then install itunes again. it worked for me hope it works for you!

• HT1379 My computer I-mac is running super slow.  If I zap the PRAM it goes back to running well , briefly... a few hours, then back to super slow.  What is the resolution for this problem?  I have a Time machine that does back up well.

My computer is running super slow.  I can correct the problem briefly by zapping the PRAM but is resumes as a problem after a few hours.  I have good time machine (capusle) backup daily.  I have done a disk verify and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong there.
Help, this is wasting a lot of time to do simple functions.

Hard to say what's going wrong without more information. Try the troubleshooting steps in my Mac Performance Guide. Post back if you need help with any of that or questions about the results.

• I have a draft email that keeps crashing the Mail program.  How do I delete the draft before the program locks up?

I have a draft email that has an attachment that keeps crashing Mail.  How do I delete the draft before it locks up the program with the spinning color wheel?

Assuming you're using some IMAP mail service, disconnect from the internet first and quit Mail
Next, click on Finder, choose 'Go' in the menubar and hold down the 'option' key. Choose 'Library' from the menu.
Navigate to
Mail/V2/Mailboxes
In there you'll see some folders called things like IMAP-{yourEmailAddress.com} for each email address you have. In each one there is a Drafts folder. Locate the correct one and delete the file.
Do NOT restart Mail, but open your internet connection, go to your web-based email through your browser and delete the draft from there too.
Now you can restart Mail. Choose 'Rebuild' from the Mailbox menu in the menubar.

• I have an iPod Nano 7th generation, and I keep getting an error saying that iTunes could not recognize my device. I have tried nearly everything, except I don't have admin rights on the computer, and really need help.

I've tried a lot to get it to work, even using a new charger and putting it into Disk Mode. I really need help. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks.

Hi Dawson777,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're receiving the message "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly" when you connect your iPod nano to your PC. You have tried some good troubleshooting steps already, and you may want to review the additional steps in this article:

under windows 7 - 8.1right click on your desktop and choose screen resolution set a very basic resolution like 1280x1024 @ 60Hz (frequency can be set under advanced options); you need to have a working monitor to set this and then reboot connecting your al1916w. if it still gives you that message, can be a bad cable or some hardware monitor issue.

• MAC keeps crashing?  NEED HELP!! please

i found a previous forum on here that people were having the same issue, but lets just say i need help for dummies.  Here is the error message i get when safari crashes:
Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes:      KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xe8240489
There is actually a lot more to it but i was just trying to search based on this criteria above.  Anyone help?  im not the most computer literate, but i have tried simple things like clearing the cache, emptying old bookmarks etc that take up room.  any other suggestions? I have safaro version 4.1.3 if that helps

here is the rest of the crash.  i still didnt trash anything bc i wasnt sure how/why that would be able to fix it? is this bad??  it happened when i was just on a regular internet browser (ESPN, MSNBC, etc)

• IPhoto crashing mac need help!!!

I recently got a 2010 macbok pro 15" with i7 dual core processor i have been using iphoto since i got it but now iphoto is crashing my computer allowing me to do nothing but restart it with the power button. I need help please i have reinstalled the software nothing works any help would be greatly appreciated.

Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a new, test library. If you can then we know the problem is with your current library.
If that's the case make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library the apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

*I've upgraded to 10.5.1 hoping that would help, but actually made the problem more frequent.I'm running out of ideas......and im about downgrade back to tiger until Leopard is more stable as i really dont have any other options.*

I am also experiencing plenty of kernel panic. I have difficulties to believe that this is hardware related since I had no problems with either Tiger or Leopards 10.5 on my macbook pro in months. I installed the 10.5.1 update for leopard 2 days ago and now i have 4 kernel panics a day that look all the same:

As far as I can understand some problems in the kernel with IP routing, which is pretty annoying. Interesting to mention the crashes only happen if I use some p2p software such as azureus or joost. Anybody else experiencing such an issue?

• I receive a firfox.exe-Bad Image. Have unistalled and re-installed 3 times. Need help

The message reads as follows C:\Program Files(x86)\Setting Manager\syslemk\syslemk.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing Program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

Hi gjlink,
When I search for this error, all of the results are suggesting to run a malware scan. Please do this first and then try a clean reinstall: Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to say if this helped you!
Thank you.
