I have an Intel iMac running OSX 10.6.8. I would like to use Final Cut Pro 10.1. I know I need OSX 10.9 for this. Can I run both 10.6.8 and 10.9 on the iMac ? I do not want to convert completely to 10.9 because of my existing software. Thanks for any help
It would depend on how old your IMac is, how mush memory you have, it it can be upgraded by OWC, etc. I have a 2006 Macbook Pro and would NOT put Mavericks on it or espeacially FCP 10.1.1 on it because the most memory it can have is 4 GB. You need at least 8 GB to work with Final Cut Pro 10.1.1. IMHO.
I would try to find a copy of Final Cut Express perhaps.

IMac Desktop computer >OS X Updates Avail Banner - How to stop? I don't want to install Mavericks. Did Apple>Sys Pref>Notifications: None for iTunes, Safari, Mail but Banner still popping up. Thanks for any help.
I have tried unchecking the "Automatically check for updates" in the Software Update control panel. Of course, then you have to remember to check manually periodically for security updates etc. So far, the annoying banners seem to have stopped, but maybe just because I have not waited long enough for them to come back.

How come I'm not asked for password for every app purchase, app auto downloads once I tap install, not good when my kids start buying apps because they are not asked for password, help!!

Tried doing this a few yrs ago and it was maddening, the receiving flashcard (or desktop) kept flagging duplicate image numbers and my only choice to was to delete one or replace, when - because they are unique images - I wanted all of them to be saved on disk (is there a way to auto rename to prevent this)??? Thx.
Just tried to export photos and kept getting messages that a certain photo was corrupt or some such thing and then it stopped and did not continue with export. Frustrating as I spent hours moving ~1200 photos into 2 folders on desktop. Tried doing a few at a time and one always stopped the entire export. Is there a way around this? I.e., program so it exports photos that work, does not export those that are damaged? Would be nice to know before the fact (in moving to folder) that photos have issues. Thanks for any help - again!

Thanks for the speedy reply. I have read so many comments about Flash being incompatible with Lion I was wondering whether to download it or not. So many sites on the Web still require flash, however, you almost don't have a choice but to download it even if it is incompatible. I had a 640GB HDD in my Early 2008 Macbook and it was just too much it would always freeze up the computer a bit for only a few seconds but ya. Then I realized that it was the size of the HDD that was causing it since the Early 2008 Macbook models can only handle a MAX od 500GB while the Early 2008 Macbook Pros could have a MAX of 640GB (Lucked out there!) lol But ya the Early 2008 Mocbooks can only handle a MAX HDD size of 500GB and that's it!! lol

My wife and I each have our own email address and calendar. These are on one IPad. The Ipad has a single ICloud account.
What's the best way to backup both Calendars, etc? Does ICloud automatically back up every account on the same IPad? (I checked ICloud, but I could only find my stuff.)

AlanFirst, you need to understand that there's a difference between "syncing" and "backup". Backup is the saving of content and settings, where syncing is the bidirectional transfer of content for an account to a web-based server (like iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)
If you see your calendar in your iCloud account, that implies that you have set up your iCloud account to host (sync) your calendar, and perhaps contacts, email, and notes. An iCloud account can only sync one user's information at a time so it is intended to support a single user. You can have more than one iCloud account, and you can even have more than one iCloud account on the same device (but one has to be primary, and the secondary iCloud has limited capabilities), but a single iCloud account only supports a single user's content.
Backup is the saving of your device's content and settings to use in case you need to recover these things, but you can't see the contents of your backup (just the size and device name). You can backup more than one device to iCloud and you can backup to iCloud or you can backup to your computer, or both (one at a time though, you have to choose).
So, if your wife has her own email and calendar she can certainly do that in parallel to whatever account(s) you have for email and calendar. But if you have only one iCloud account then only one of you can use it for email, calendar, etc. But the backup of these accounts is really just a backup of the device's settings that link the device to these accounts. For example, if she uses Gmail then the backup of the iPad only backs up the fact that your iPad is set up to use her account, it does not backup the account itself (the content of her account is saved and preserved on Google's servers, not your device's backup).

The HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909 is not an AirPrint printer, if that is what you're asking. HP has proprietary apps that may be suitable for your needs.
To print directly from an iPad / iPhone you will need an AirPrint compatible printer or another device to act as a print server. That can be a Mac computer running Printopia ($19.95 with free trial) or handyPrint (donation - supported). The Mac must be "on" but may be asleep for them to work. Equivalent PC options may exist but you're on your own finding them.
You can also buy this standalone print server:

These options enable you to use any printer available to your Mac, even older ones that may predate AirPrint by decades.
Otherwise you will need to buy an AirPrint printer or multifunction device. -
I have an old iMac for 2002....it's the rounded type that has an attached monitor. The software is way outdated (OS X 10) and I only really use now to access 3,000 plus songs and old video of the family. Both the keyboard and mouse no longer work. Am I able to use any keyboard/mouse and plug in using USB? Thanks for any help!
Most any USB mouse or keyboard should work. Borrow one if you can and just plug it in.
If the USB circuits are at fault then you can access via Firewire Target Mode with another Mac in order to get at the files.

You need to use a product such as ScreenRecycler to do that. All of those products work over a network connection; direct video in isn't available on an iMac G5.

thanks for any help!Because photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days, allowing enough time for your devices to download them. Only shared streams keep photos in iCloud indefinitely. Your other photos are probably older than 30 days and are no longer in iCloud.
Also, photo stream photos aren't included in your backup, only camera roll photos are. If you want to include photo stream photos that are not already in your camera roll in your backup, you have to save them to the camera roll before backing up.
