Yes.
If you double click on a PDF and your system uses 8 to open it, you may have to repair (Help>Repair... in Reader) the 9 installation or you could change your file associations to use 9 to open PDF files.
If 9 opens them already, just remove 8 and you're good to go.

I have an iMac G5 with OS 10.4.11. OS 9 is also on the computer. Can I safely remove OS 9? Will removing it help my processing speed?If you remove OS 9, all Classic applications will fail to run, as shown by the System Profiler in the Applications or Applications -> Utilities folder:
Not running Classic will speed Mac OS X application speed, but you needn't remove the system folder, or the Applications Mac OS 9 folder. You just need to make sure Classic is not running in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Classic, and is shut down if it is running. Removing the System Folder with the Finder and System files and the Control Panels folder will disable Classic as well. I would only do so, if you are sure oyu never need a Classic application again.
Upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5 will stop you from being able to use Classic in any case. -
Trying to clean up my iMac. Noticed that while in finder, I click on Applications and in the list I see another folder called applications that is a duplicator of the original folder. Is this truly a copy that can be deleted?
DO NOT remove either folder. DO NOT mess with any OS X system files either. If you have dupliocates check your files in iPhoto, iTunes and your iMovies libraries. Also check your data files, under ALL circumstances stay away from any OS X systems files or you will probably bork your Mac to the point it will not run.

I believe i have 2 problems.
First this is what ive already done:
I ran an extensive hardware test, no problem
In disk utility I erased my harddrive and clean installed Mavericks,
Verified and repaired disk, no problems
Verified and repaired permissions, no problems
Disk boots up fine when running on MacBookPro through Firewire
Zapped PRAM/NVRAM plenty
After upgrade I can no longer boot into safe mode, Stalls after 25%
Can no longer use CMD-R
Can no longer use Apple Hardware Test
Doesnt seem like I can update firmware from disk by holding down the power button. not sure im using the right disk either.
These problems probably stem from running complex graphics on a windows 7 partitions I used to have.
First off I think my GPU is out. I get Thick Green lines down the screen that are not from screen damage straight from startup.
After Chime the apple logo pops up and loads but after a while the wheel stops and the computer will reboot moments after. Im hoping this is a Firmware problem and I dont have to replace my GPU. My computer has booted up with the lines before and I dont think its the cause for not booting but im no professional. Before I updated to Mavericks This Problem already existed. Can a failing GPU cause boots to fail?
During hardware test the green lines would go away and I would have a clean screen.
I loaded Mavericks from a USB drive from there onto the newly erased harddrive (32 Write erase). Everything was going great until I got close to the end of the loading bar for the setup and it froze. The colors on my screen displayed everything but with the colors messed up into a rainbow oval on the top half of the screen. I rebooted and suddenly I cant boot from anything. Harddrive, Install Disk, or USB
So I plugged up my firewire and got on a MacBookPro with Mavericks and erased the disk again. Then I installed Mavericks flawlessly and it will boot from the MacBookPro but not from the Imac.
When I boot in Verbose mode I get an error that says
BootCacheControl: Unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist:2 no such file or directory
Then
NVDAStartup: Official (im guessing thats my GPU)
and a bunch of SMC:smcReadKeyAction ERRORS
and Sandbox: authd(##) deny file-write & deny file-read errors
Im thinking I need a new GPU but I want to be absolutely certain before I spend anything on replacing parts.
Could this be a EFI Firmware Problem?
like a Firmware/boot data problem from a bad ESP (I dont know what is what really).
If all this is part of the GPU it would totally make sense to just go ahead and replace it if thats the case. But im no expert, What do you think?Very simple take it to an Apple Store or AASP and have it professionally diagnosed. Anything else would be guessing. Do NOT spend a penny on it until it is professionaly diagnosed otherwise you stand and excellent chance of throwing good money after bad.

I would like to know how i can share my music using an UPnp protocole. I have an Imac but when i'm chosing the option share my file i can connect my mac to another network reader . it seems that the protocole used is not UPnp. I need this to be in UPnp. does somebody can help ?

I have a IMac G5 A1058 that was running Mac OS 10.3.8 I upgraded to 10.4
I have a IMac G5 A1058 that was running Mac OS 10.3.8 I upgraded to 10.4, shortly after upgrading the system would no longer boot so I booted from the 10.4 Tiger upgrade disk from which I had upgraded and disk utility found errors on the HD file system that it said could not be repaired. I removed the HD from the system and connected it to my other IMac G5 A1312and ran disk utility and found the same errros. I re partitioned the HD put it back into the G5 and atempted to reinstall the OS. I keep getting a grey screen with a circle and a line through it.It does this with OS 10.2 and 10.3 when I tried 10.4 tiger upgrade it says it need their to be a system all ready installed. My Q's is do I need Mac OS 10.3.8 disks since that is the system that this computer was released with?
Any idea why it will not let me install 10.3 and work my way up?

If it came with Mac OS 10.3.8, you can't install an early version. You need the discs with it -

I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my MacBook and I noticed that I have more capacity on the Macintosh HD than before the upgrade. I checked my files and applications and they are still on my computer and nothing appears to be missing. Before the upgrade I had around 111 GB capacity with around 10.50 GB available on the Mac HD but now after the upgrade I have 119 GB capacity and 20.92 GB available. Can capacity on the HD change after an OS upgrade?
No, but the upgrade removed unneeded PowerPC code and changed the way free space is determined.

heartfelt thanks for your excellent answers.Have you gone to the Photoshop Help menu and selected Help > Activate... You need an internet connection to do this. All you have to do is follow the steps.
What is activation? Photoshop used to be unlocked with a serial number only. However software pirates simply passed the numbers around to unlock multiple copies without paying for the license.
As of Photoshop CS3, activation requires a connection to a remote server that validates the machine it was installed on on order to launch Photoshop. You are allowed to activate on two computers. Any change in hardware means you have re-activate.
We are basically volunteers not Adobe employees. If you cannot activate your copy as instructed, call customer service and they can help you by resetting the activations.
Unless you signed up for email notifications, it's best to recheck the forums to see if anyone answered your question.

Since upgrading iMac to osx lion I have been experiencing problems in mail, it spontaneously stops receiving and tells me it can't find the pop server and also the biggest problem is that when I send with an attachment the recipient doesn't receive it.
I have to restart mail most times before it starts recieving or recognizes the pop server.

Why is it that when I text pictures, the recipient does not receive them. I've noticed that I have a camera roll which is where I choose pics from, but nothing in Photo Stream. Can someone please let me know what the issue might be? Thank you!
Some phones can only send and recieve SMS messages. If the recipients phone doesn't support MMS they won't be able to recieve a text with a photo.
